Our mechs don't ge deliberately simbolic names like that. They received nicknames or titles at some point in their history, and what gives them meaning is the weight of that history rather than the name itself. The Hivehome Rangers had a Swallowtail that, among many achievements, was sige-handedly responsible for a week-long delaying action against an armored column from Saint Tellus, during which its crew and a handful of infantry managed to take out nearly a fourth of the force.

It's called TOAD.

Question: how much meaning do you guys put behind the name of your mech?

I ask because I was discussing this with Highground. Apparently our Everest pilot pulled her mech's name out of a hat, while I'm at the opposite end of the spectrum—Dawn Always Comes has three meanings behind it ("Dawn Always Comes" as in "hope springs eternal", as in "you cannot hide from my missiles", and as in "you will see tomorrow").

Here's a fun fact about the United Cities: a lot of our folk music uses yodeling; it's a type of vowels-only singing that was invented both by the pre-Crisis Egregorians and by the pre-Fall humans of Cradle, and for similar reasons.

Both the mountain chain of the Alps and the subterranean chambers where our ancestors and us mostly live are full of echoes, which means that harsh sounds like consonants get easily distorted, while yodels carry better and over greater distance.

Recently the music scene has begun moving away from it as the lack of immediate threats has made surface habitation more common, but it's still included in the chorus or in dedicated vocal solos.

Another thing you don't really see anywhere else, because it's rare even here, is Empathic partners who honed their skill to the extent that they can play the same instrument with perfect coordination: you really haven't listened to a harp until you heard it played with four hands without a single discord.

Ok dudes so I'm sure someone's asked about this, but essentially I'm starting my first Lancer character soon (it's Wallflower, no spoilers plz!), and he's essentially a musical historian/archeologist. He literally went to Union college for pre-Fall music history, and specializes in Metal. A great deal of his aesthetic and the name of his mech are inspired by Brutal Legend, which through the annals of thousands and thousands of years of lost history, he and his fellow scholars believe is a mythological saga/canon about the birth of Cradle and the "sacred art" of Metal.

However, even though his specialty and primary taste is in this archeological music, he is also a well-connected video essayist and streamer (the impetus for him becoming a pilot but that's unimportant atm), and thus knows just a little bit about current music scenes all across human space, and a bunch about music from "recent" history.

So I ask, you, dear Internet, give me your tastiest, crunchiest headcanons about music in the time of Lancer and further back. How do the Ungratefuls let their cry of freedom be heard? What do demonic record companies churn out as corporate slop? What does a Karrakin noble listen to vs a common peasant? What did the first NHP Rock Star sound like? Any and all of it. I WILL use it for this character.

@revvedandrunning has successfully used their chassis to make barbecues, but then again it was at a far larger scale.

Speaking from experience, I'd put the hot dog maker in an expanded compartment and just redirect the heatsink conduit to power it instead of running it off of the Juggernaut Reactor directly, that way you don't turn your snacks into ash as soon as you get in the Danger Zone.

If you're a bit more sensitive to criticism, might I recommend you the Shamhat codebase? It replaces the Plasma Talons and Warcrime Juice(tm) with plasma JETS, so you can watch your pal get rocketed into the stratosphere as soon as they get in the Danger Zone.

A couple members of our Lancer group and I put together a module over the last two weeks for the Lancer game jam. I'll be posting the art I did for it over the next couple of days, but you can get the whole thing below on itch morganjanearcane.itch.io/a-wake-writ-in-void The pdf is pwyw since we'd much rather it be accessible to anyone interested in Lancer. It's designed to be played as either a one-shot for PCs to be able to try out new builds at a mid-high level, or to be slotted into a campaign around that level. We'd love to do more of these in the future and are looking to adding some extra material for this module over the next month.

If any of your comrades made the unfortunate choice of disregarding electronic warfare when picking their chassis, be a responsible teammate and let them live long enough to chew their ears off by purchasing a Planthopper or Tarantula; just tell enemy controllers "I deploy Disruptor Chaff" or "Active Interference" and they legally cannot hack you.
