Hello! Tomorrow is April 1st which means that posting for the first ever HP AUpril is starting! 

A few quick things about posting:

As a reminder, we will only be sharing works that fall within our rules and guidelines, which can be found here.

When posting to Tumblr, please make sure to tag us @hpaupril​ and use the tags #hpAUpril2021 when you post. Also, please use the following header with your submissions (it will save us time when we compile the daily prompt lists):

Prompt: Title: Author: Pairing/Focus Characters (if Gen): Rating: Tags/ Content Warnings: AO3 Link (if cross posted):

When posting to AO3, please make sure you either use the relevant wrangled AU tag in the tags section or make sure you put the prompt in the summary so that your work is shared on the appropriate day. Also, please make sure to tag your work with any content warnings or other relevant tags.

The AO3 collection is live now and can be found here.

You are free to post your work wherever you want, however we will only be sharing posts that are posted to AO3 and Tumblr. You also can post your works whenever you want during April. If you after a given prompt day, we will update that prompts master list, and if you post early, we will hold onto your work until it is ready to post that prompts master list.

⚡️ FAQs ⚡️

It’s nearly April, so we thought we should do a post of some questions people may have before this challenge kicks off. We’re so excited for this and we can’t wait to see what everyone creates!

Do I need to sign up?

No! There are no sign-ups necessary. This isn’t a fest, just a month of prompts. The point of this blog is just to act as a catalog for the works you create.

What kind of works can I create?

Any an everything. Drabbles, headcanons, one-shots, multi-chapter fics, art, comics, moodboards, gif sets, playlists, and whatever other creative thing you can think of. Just make sure it’s Harry Potter related (and yes, that includes Fantastic Beasts and Cursed Child).

How many of the prompts can I create for?

As many as you want! You can create something for every prompt or only one prompt, create more than one thing for the same prompt, or even combine several prompts into one monster AU. Create to your hearts content! Just make sure you tag which prompt (or prompts) inspired you when you post your work.

When can I share my works?

At any time throughout April, it doesn’t matter if it’s on the right day. If you post something before the day that AU is prompted, tag us and we will share it in that day’s round up. If you post something after a given prompt’s day, that’s ok. Just tag us and we will go back and update that prompt’s roundup post. This is supposed to be fun and inspire new ideas; no one needs harsh deadlines messing with their creative flow.

Where can I post my works?

Wherever you would like, but the mods will only be sharing and inventorying works posted on AO3 and Tumblr. There will be an AO3 collection you can share your works to, you can post solely on Tumblr and tag us in it, or you can do both!

Do I need to do anything when posting my works to get them shared on the blog?

Yes! We will be posting guidelines later on how to tag your work so we mods can see it and share it. So stay tuned!   

What kinds of works will you not share?

The mods will not, under any circumstances, share or promote works that portray or glorify in any way relationships that are non-consensual, incestuous, or have illegal age-gaps. 

We also ask that any works with content or trigger warnings be properly tagged. We do not want to share works that may cause potential harm or distress without warning.

Write for as many or as little prompts as you want. You can even combine prompts into one Frankenstein’s Monster AU if you want. Just have fun.

⚡️ Announcing: HP AUpril ⚡️

We are proud to announce the first annual HP AUpril prompt month!

Have you ever noticed how all of the prompt challenges are in October? Well, not anymore. Inspired by this post, now there’s AUpril: a month, you guessed it, of AUs. 

So what is an AU you may be wondering? AU stands for alternate universe, which in the fanfiction world, is basically means that one or more elements of a work’s canon has been changed, whether it’s the locations, a characters backstory, or a character’s fate or story arc.

We have picked 30 different universes (one for every day in April) for you to throw your favorite Harry Potter characters into—from common ones like coffee shops and universities, to your less common, like a zombie apocalypse or customer service hotline. 

Timeline:

Early February: We will share the prompt list so you can start planning and working on your creative works—whatever those may be. 

Starting as early as March 25: You can start posting your work to tumblr and AO3 (there will be a collection, but more information on that later). However, keep in mind that the mods will not be sharing works until the day those prompts fall on in April.

Daily in April: We will be sharing a round-up of works for each prompt, ending with a master list of the entire challenge in early May.

Some notes and rules:

This is not a fest, so there’s no need to sign-up. Just tag the blog in your work when you post (more information to come on that later).

This is a multi-ship challenge, so please be respectful of that. 

However, a quick disclaimer. While this challenge is open to multiple ships—or no ships, please share your gen works—the mods reserve the right not to share/promote works that portray or glorify in any way relationships that are non-consensual, incestuous, or have illegal age-gaps.
