Ok, so I know we make a lot of jokes about how gay the Trojans are, but after reading tgr… that’s totally on purpose

There’s a reason that Rhemman respects Wymack so much, and it’s that they’re doing the same thing. Where Wymack has made a team that’s a haven for kids who need a second chance, Rhemman has made one that’s a safe space for queer athletes.

Rhemman’s quieter about it, in part because he can be, and in part for the safety of his kids, but it’s the same thing Wymack’s doing. And while he might not be as outspoken about it, he’s absolutely putting out the signals for those who might need to know. Just look at who his captains are. Jeremy, who’s had a lot of attention for being unsubtly gay. And Xavier, a trans man who has transitioned while vice-captain and isn’t trying to hide it.

And if his two captains weren’t a loud enough signal that his team was a safe space, you have the team’s reputation. They’re known for being nice to everyone. Anyone who joins this team knows what standards they’re going to be held to and can guess that bullying won’t be tolerated within the team. More than that, the team’s reputation doesn’t just mean safety at home, it also acts as a shield for its players. It’s well established that almost no one beefs with the Trojans and going after one of their players is a taboo. (Yes Jean is the exception here, but the more entrenched in the team he gets the more it’ll be true for him too).

Rhemman has gone out of his way to make a space as safe as possible for queer athletes. And for those who need it, he’ll show them it’s possible to live a happy fulfilled life by modeling it for them. Rhemman and Wymack are two sides of the same coin.

Something that I will always love and admire Nora for is her handling of Jean’s sexuality.

Firstly that he’s bi because I felt like we needed more representation in the series on that end, but mostly because she didn’t take his trauma and use that as an excuse to cut the whole attraction end out of his character.

Jean went thru horrific things at Evermore, and we all know what the sex end of it was. Traumatizing. Terrible. Downright awful.

But Nora still writes him as someone who can and does feel attracted to others: Kevin, Renee, Laila, etc. Granted he doesn’t LET himself think of them that way because he now finds it inappropriate, but he does look at them in that sort of “you’re interesting” lighting. And it makes sense because he’s in college and has had NO experience outside of “that.” Hormones are still hormones.

I just like that she puts in those moments where he eyes Laila or Annalise, etc. It makes him feel fully fleshed out. It’s normal to check people out.

And in regards to Jeremy… He’s checked Jeremy out, could picture Jeremy’s smile from across the country, and only with Jeremy in TGR is Jean described as feeling “hungry.”

It’s different from looking at Laila in her bathing suit. It’s a moment where Jean looks at someone and there’s want and need behind how he feels.

Unfortunately Jean isn’t quite healed enough or dare I say confident enough to act on that right now, but still thank you Nora for letting this boy be a little horny.

Bless us all if Laila really does get him a sex toy because Cat asking about it is the only time he’s blushed. And that shit was funny.

one of my favourite things about nora sakavic's writing is her ability to write around narrative plot points. i can't think of any examples from the main trilogy off the top of my head but in TGR especially, the text message jeremy recieves from joshua HEAVILY impacts the entire first chapter of his narration. at no point does nora ever tell us what the text says, but she writes the impact of it so well that it actually creates a far more fascinating atmosphere than if she'd told us straight off. she truly is a writer who knows when to give and when to withhold information from the audience and i for one am here for every damn second of it

as painful as it was to read, neil getting his ribs fractured was so powerful

he gets interviewed and very pointedly calls the ravens out for breaking jeans ribs. then lane, presumably in retaliation, breaks neil’s ribs. and jean watches his misplaced forever partner sustain that injury all while clutching his own ribs in memory and sympathy pain, panicked for neil

jean has never had someone truly suffer with/for him before. except neil.
