my beloved creatures finally together side by side here here to the reunion (i bet they’ve missed each other). generally my thought process behind this was to kind of make them look at each other on a lazy morning i hope i was able to achieve this impression

Genuinely did not realize that’s he’s not asian until like book 3. I see the name Kevin and automatically thought “oh he’s Vietnamese? Cool”. Completely ignored those green eyes.

Plus imagining Kevin as asian makes me feel less icky when the main villain is a very visible POC while the main cast is predominantly white (it’s written in 2006 and Nora is a white woman. I don’t expect good representation nor do I think it’s her place). Along with the subtle anti-Japanese/anti-asian sentiment sprinkled in aftg fanfics for example: hearing Japanese is triggering to Kevin and Neil and Jean.

Like…I get it bc they’re the mafia buttttt when you remember that Japanese people were literally banned from speaking their language, as well as, the general immigrant kid experience of not being able to talk to your grandparents bc you conformed to Western standards. Yeah.. white people being triggered by a language/East Asian culture is not doing what you think it’s doing. So our history nerd yaoi harem character is going to be a person of colour.
