April 8, 1977 - Rabid is released theatrically in the US and Canada.
The horror film was written and directed by David Cronenberg. It starred Marilyn Chambers, Frank Moore, Joe Silver and Howard Ryshpan.
Cronenberg’s first choice to play Rose was Sissy Spacek, but was told no because of her Texas accent and they didn’t think she’d be a big enough of a draw (this was prior to Carrie being released). Ivan Reitman, an executive producer, suggested Marilyn Chambers for the role because he had heard that she was looking for a mainstream role. Chambers got the role and Cronenberg said that he was impressed with her and she put in a lot of work on set.
