     It’s a BAD day. The worst of bad days he’s had in a      long time && he’s positively GLOWERING as he walks      home, scarf wrapped tightly around reddening cheeks      that were so easily nipped by New York’s Fall wind.      Never mind how  l o n g  it took him to order his coffee -      then he burnt his tongue on it. Only halfway home did      he finally take a sip so the beverage could be cooled      by the Autumn air.

          ❝ They didn’t even get my order right !!!! I hate                                            caramel  s o   m u c h ---- ❞

     This is followed by an almost unintelligible string of curse      words, then a swift, enraged hurling of his coffee cup at      the ground. Only as it leaves the confinement of his      gloved hand does Rod realize the cup does not hit the      ground, but a pair of stranger’s feet. The lid pops off the      the styrofoam cup & manages to splash the hot coffee      all over the stranger !! NICE !!! 

     & Rod is on the verge of screaming.

Rod is totally embarrassed by the idea of dating Ricky. At first it’s AMAZING because omg this guy looks like my best friend who I’ve been pining over but then he realizes they don’t have the same connection as him and Nicky at all. To be honest, he probably would’ve liked to date someone who didn’t look like his best friend.

They’d hardly spoken all evening, and Nicky just blurted out the first thing on his mind. He’d been genuinely curious as to what his mysterious internet doppelganger was like. He certainly wasn’t jealous of either of them in any way. Sure, Rod hadn’t had as much time to spend with him anymore, but that wasn’t as important as him being happy, and being with someone who loved him. And Nicky was totally content with their relationship. Why wouldn’t he be? They were friends, best friends, and it was his job as Rod’s 100% heterosexual wingman to help him with his relationship.

     That came out sharper than he meant it to. Of course -- that      wasn’t the first thing he’d expected Nicky to ask, & it was a bit      of a soft subject. Oh, boy. Nicky could already tell that Rod had been overthinking things. That never ended well. He emerged from their shared bedroom, where he had been sound asleep until his friend got home. 

“ Oh, uh, sure, Rod.  What’s on your mind, buddy? ”

     Rod throws himself down into his own armchair --      the neater of the two, the one with the blue blanket      folded neatly over the back && pillows in EXACT order.      He removes the wire-rimmed glasses perched      precariously on the bridge of his nose for a moment to      knead the spot with thin fingers, then puts them right      back into place. He kicks up one foot & crosses his legs      delicately, eyeing his friend with a sort of hesitant fear      that only came when he was making big decisions like      this.

          ❝ Well---- I got a raise at work today. It’s               nice, of course, but it got me thinking.               Do you remember when we moved onto               Avenue Q? Of course we had to move               here because we were fresh out of college               and I was an intern without a job. && I’ve               been thinking lately---- what’s keeping me               here? Banking’s going well for me                 c l e a r l y  and I have OPPORTUNITIES now.               I could live in a real apartment complex in the               NICE part of New York City, a penthouse, even.               One with a view of the lights instead of some               brick walls and a dumpster that takes up too               much space.
