Okay, so I try hard to cover global queer history, and this isn't marking a stop to that, but I am aware that most of my audience is American, and I want to address them very directly right now.
Google Removed Pride Month From Its Calendar App, and Stonewall National Monument's "LGBTQ" status was changed to "LGB" on the government website. This is the beginning of the erasure of queer history, not the end. I don't know what the future of the United States looks like, as someone who studies queer history and has done so for many years, I want to share some tools with you.
Now is a good time to prioritize local queer history, Making Gay History is a great project, so is the Digital Transgender Archive, but also check your city and see what resources there are.
Read and buy books about queer history. I have an affiliate list with some of the books I personally recommend.
If you use Google Calendar, repopulate that resource with so much queer history with a free queer history calendar plug-in, it has names from queer history that you can also learn more about for free when they come up. As the author of these articles, feel free to save them, print them off, whatever makes them freely accessible as suppression get's worse.
Use your local library. Email the board about book bans, request banned books, request queer books, and make your voice heard.
Make queer art. Share queer art. Protect queer art. Here is some public-domain queer art to use as you wish.
Keep up with queer news, THEM is a great resource.
All of these tools are currently freely accessible with an internet connection. Queer history is a community responsibility, do your part.

The US Park Service has removed the Q and T from LGBTQ+ on their site, as of Feb 13, 2025
Where it used to say LGBTQ+, it now says LGB. All mentions of pride flags besides the rainbow have been removed. On their virtual fence exhibit page, any mention of Zazu Nova, who is thought by many to be the first brick thrower, being a trans woman has been removed. The recommended reading list under History & Culture is gone.
These changes, and more, can be confirmed for yourself by looking at the Internet Archive's Wayback Machine. The above link is their contact page where you can call, send an email, a letter, or message or tag them on their social media to demand the return of LGBTQ+.
#this is important to note thank you!!#i suspected behind the scenes bullshit like this but there still needs to be an outpour of protest to show we all actually care abt this

[“Much has been written about Li’s older boyfriend, Magnus Hirschfeld. He was a closeted German doctor and sexologist who became famous in the 1930s as a defender of gay people. In books on Hirschfeld, Li is usually just a footnote.
But as I found in my research, Li was a sexologist and activist in his own right. And in my view, his ideas about sexuality speak to our moment better than his much more well-known boyfriend’s do.
When Li died in Vancouver in 1993, his unpublished manuscript about sexuality was thrown in the trash. Luckily, it was rescued by a curious neighbor and eventually ended up in an archive. Since then, only a handful of people, myself included, have read it.
(…)
Yet Li’s rediscovered manuscript shows he did become a sexologist, even though he never published his findings.
In his manuscript, Li tells how after Hirschfeld died, he spent decades traveling the world, carrying on the research and taking detailed notes while living in Zurich, Hong Kong and then Vancouver.
The data he gathered would have startled Hirschfeld. Forty percent of people were bisexual, he wrote, 20 percent were homosexual and only 30 percent percent were heterosexual. (The last 10 percent were “other.”) Being trans was an important, beneficial part of the human experience, he added.
Hirschfeld thought bisexuals were scarce and that even homosexuals were only a minor slice of the population—a “sexual minority.” To Li, bisexuals plus homosexuals were the majority. It was lifelong heterosexuals who were rare—so rare, he wrote, that they “should be classified as an endangered species.”]

Queer history is not and has never been, a history of tragedies. As someone who has studied it for over seven years, take it from me, there are moments of joy, laughter, and community to find all throughout it.
I truly believe that one of the big barriers that stop young queer people from learning their history is fear. I won't say that fear is unwarranted. There is injustice, heartbreak, and deep true sadness to be found in queer history. But that is not the sum of it.
Just as queer people have been hurt, betrayed, and oppressed, we have also been loved, treasured, and revered. Queerness is not and has never been universally despised. And when society hates us, we make community still. There is beauty in queer history, even in the more painful parts. It takes a level of bravery to open yourself up to that, but I think it is more than worth it.

"tbh we might have clowned on [aros & aces] a lil too harshly" bigotry. the term you're looking for is bigotry. denying communities their vocabulary and ability to safely exist because you think you're the personal arbiter of which identities are "valid" is bigotry. minimizing and infantilizing and harassing entire groups of people based on their orientation is bigotry. aphobia isn't some forgettable phase of being cringe as a teenager, it's bigotry that inflicted long term damage to these communities.
