actually now that i'm talking about it: why do homestuck fans continuously retcon davekat back out of existence?

it's genuinely fucking hilarious that that in the FIRST TIMELINE they were very close (called each other bffs, the penis ouji scene happened, the 'touch me' scene happened), and THEN, after the timeline changes, they start dating and the whole fandom is like "What the fuck why are they dating in this timeline why did this come out of nowhere??"

and then, three years after davekat was made canon, the epilogues come out; and in the epilogues it's retconned that davekat never actually got together and they've just been pining for years. and yet even when THOSE came out so many fans* were like "Oh my god why are they forcing davekat together in the epilogues this is such annoying fanservice" even though they had. already been canon before that

*even FANS of davekat were like "yay i'm so glad my ship is finally getting screentime 😊" as if davekat wasn't a big part of act 6? lmfao?

how the fuck is this ship simultaneously the Most Popular Ship AND one that fans keep gaslighting themselves into forgetting was actually textual outside of dumb fanon stuff????
