Had a pretty relaxing morning. Got a massage then hit the pools. I have to say. It’s hard to be silent when you are there with family. Only got told once. That’s all it takes. I think I could spend all day there. (at Scandinave Spa Whistler) https://www.instagram.com/p/Br6bpOahvH1/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=zx4b07ta0s9v

THROUGH THE FOG-FILLED FOREST
This summer we hiked Vancouver Island’s Juan de Fuca Trail. Just south of the famous West Coast Trail, the JDF offers a similar experience in a slightly more approachable package. Following the stunningly rugged coastline, you’ll see waterfall-carved canyons, grottos and gullies and groves of giant trees, wave-swept beaches, and — if you’re lucky — plenty of iconic BC wildlife.
At 47km long, it can be hiked in as little as 2 days but we recommend 4 or even 5 days if you can spare them. There are some long and muddy sections, and despite starting and ending each day near sea level you can still experience substantial elevation gain. Besides, it’s just nice to savour wild trails like these, to give yourself ample time to explore and enjoy the area.

BIG BEND, TX
after taking a good look at the map, we woke up early the next day set on exploring lost mine peak, one of the higher points in the park. it was a 3 mile climb from the trailhead, but the road to get there was off-limits for vehicles over 24ft…
seeing as our bus is 35-ft, the only way we could get to the trailhead was via a six-mile, completely uphill, slow and steady bike climb. or maybe I should say bike chug. I can’t tell you what the exact grade was, but I’d guess it was between 8-12% the whole way up with zero flat points. we took short breaks in the shade when we found bushes big enough to cast a shadow, and got lots of perplexed looks from driving tourists caught off guard by a pedaler on the steep-ass road
we we’re pretty pumped when we reached the top of the road, eating lunch quickly before hitting the trail up to lost mine. the hike was steep, sunny, and reasonably busy with other visitors trying to beat the heat, and we spent the second half of it chatting with two sierra club members we’d met en route. nice guys, the stories they were telling made joining the sierra team pretty tempting. as expected, the views from the top were staggering, and Troy even found a fresh $20 to sweeten the deal
but what really made the trip was the downhill…
what had taken us 2.5 hrs to go up flew by in 10 minutes of motorcycle-like speeds down a snaking desert road. going that fast without the sound of an revving engine is a special experience, and it was silent aside from the rush of wind and our excited hollering as we whipped around turn after turn. and just like that, without a single pedal, and with only a few bugs in the teeth, we were back at the bus

My local CUPE 2950. Our supporting CUPW I wished we had marched. We need to go out and support those workers and their right to negotiate a fair collective agreement. We need to push back on these employers who line their pockets on the backs of the workers. (at Canada Place) https://www.instagram.com/p/Bqx_crHhW2Z/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=11xkgpxa1556r
