I view Lincoln as A villain ...

The Civil War in the United States was a big war that killed a lot of citizens, ruined families, damaged  homes, towns and cities.The North was anti slavery and south was pro slavery. It was said it was the Union vs. Confederacy. This all happened in 1861 all the way to 1865. The Emancipation Proclamation was when Lincoln banished slavery to preserve the union. Lincoln himself wrote the Emancipation Proclamation. He wrote this to end slavery for good and for the union. Lincoln's goal was to save the union. The confederacy did not want this; they went against the union. North was anti slavery but the south did not want this and they wanted slavery (pro slavery). President Lincoln should not be viewed as a hero for emancipating enslaved people because despite the mistreatment that black people were getting he only did this for himself and the union.  According to source 5, “Lincoln proclaimed that it was his duty to [preserve] the Union. He also declared that he had no intention of ending slavery where it existed, or of repealing [ending] the Fugitive Slave Law -- a position that horrified African Americans and their white allies.” This explains how Lincoln did not care because these people were mistreated so badly and even though he still had no care he did it for himself and the union were ���horrified African Americans and their white allies”. I think this supports my claim on how Lincoln shouldn't be called a hero because my evidence proves my point that he didn't care how much people of color were being mistreated; he just wanted it to benefit his needs and the union. In conclusion, this proves Lincoln should not be considered a hero. My reasons for thinking this is because, He freed the slaves for war basically using them for his own benefits. He also knew that Black people were getting mistreated but he decided he wanted to use this as a opportunity and used them in the war.
