literally like if you want to dislike snape you can, there's plenty of reasons in canon to dislike the guy but for some reason people can't never be normal about things.

Why can’t snape haters dislike him like normal people instead of saying he would be a pedophile or school shooter or something

the thing i love the most about snape is that he is a perfect example of trauma driven grey character, but i also think that's why some people hate him so much. snape is neither a good or a bad person, he's a bitter, resentful man who was shaped by traumatic life events and suffered the consequences of his own stupid actions. he is a man who's known more hurt than joy in his life and never got the chance to heal is inner wounds, resulting in him being mentally stucked in the mind of a traumatized teenager despite being an adult. he's someone who's barely known what love feels like, and clings desperately to the memory of the one person who ever loved him, moved by grief, devotion, self-hatred and anger all together.

that's why i love the books so much, because as much as i adore movie snape, the books really dive into his psyche in a way that makes him even more complex than what we see in the movies. we see his anger, his bitterness, his cruelty more, but we also see his care, his devotion and the way his mind evolves from doing the right thing out of love to doing the right thing because it's right.

snape is one of the most human character in the hp series, and he can't be appreciated with a manichean mindset: making him a saint who did no wrong or the spawn of the antichrist really just dumb down his character, and i find that so disappointing that a lot of people in the fandom are either just 'severus is an innocent baby angel and everyone else is the problem' or either 'snape is an evil asshole and everything happening is his fault and he deserved to be miserable and d!e'. like he's such a well written character and i think a LOT more people would adore him if they bothered to understand that no, people aren't just fully good or fully bad and snape shows exactly that.

on another note, i also think a lot more people would love snape if he was in fact fully evil, like voldemort kind of evil. people would babygirlify that man so hard if he was an actual death eater who would kill people as a hobby 💀

I had this music teacher in middle school who was so strict and downright terrifying that students would cry going to her classes. yet she ended up one of my favorite teachers from back then.

I think severus shouldn't have been a teacher because, well, he obviously doesn't like kids, but honestly his behaviour with the students never really phased me that much. I'm not saying it was okay of him to treat kids like that, but to be honest they had way worse going on at Hogwarts (I mean Umbridge straight up cut a student's hand open and I don't see her being as loudly and constantly bashed for it as snape). besides, I don't think anyone even gaf? like in the books, besides harry and sometimes ron (and that one scene with neville), we rarely see any students actively complaining about snape. i don't even think he was that mean to other students besides the golden trio. he was strict, yes, he wasn't a kind teacher, he probably shouldn't have been a teacher at all, but honestly people in the fandom are treating this man like he was the antichrist when in reality he was... not that bad. there were worse teachers and characters than snape in the books that don't get half the hate he gets.

I remember how shocked I was when I heard people say "professor snape is a bully". I was like yeah he's strict and he insults his students but isn't that what most teachers do?? It was a cultural shock because as someone who is raised in a South Asian society the average teachers here behave exactly the same way or sometimes even worse than it. I don't think many of these fans would survive hear. Look I'm not defending this behavior but we are kind of used to it. It doesn't bother me.

Aight so since I've been here liking things but never posting for YEARS, i've decided to come out the shadows and introduce myself ✌🏻

Call me Enora!! or whatever i guess. i'm 19, a she/they lesbian who currently obsesses over harry potter, pokémon and bts (and other things but these three are the backbone of my mental health basically).

i love liking hated characters (severus snape you will always be loved by me) and making weird scenarios in my mind (will i post this harry potter AU i have in my head for the world to see? maybe.)
