What if

Metal tends to forget that he's a robot and has moments where he would stay in the rain and try to feel the droplets, knowing it would destroy him; or times where he would saw tails and would try to greet him (based from OVA where metal sonic is created through sonic's DNA and has sonic's memories) only to get a feared and defensive manner from the person whom he sees as his little brother. He would forget that he's not sonic..and believed he's real. A real person, a mobian like everyone else..

Its just that, with sonic THE hedgehog that envy and hatred would heighten.
