The Light Fury throws Hiccup

** HTTYD THE HIDDEN WORLD SPOILERS AHEAD **

The symbolization of the Hiccup letting go of the Light Fury and saying ‘Save him’ as he has accepted his own defeat and his own demise to save his best friend before letting go of her and falling to his presumed death. He’s like his father. Sacrificing himself for what he had learned and what he had loved.

The fact that Grimmel tears off his dragon wings, thus animating the severity of the situation. Hiccup was about to lose his life, but, he was losing what bit of Toothless he still had left before losing him forever, saying goodbye and he’s ultimately accepted that.

A chief protects his own and Hiccup has embraced death in ordnance with that.
