“Oh, just sit down,” Trapper snapped, pointing Gonzo down to his couch.

Gonzo, finally, did as he was told. He was such a little shit. Never listened to a word Trapper had to say unless he made him. As entertaining as that could be, it was ridiculously frustrating when it was something that was becoming an actual problem.

Trapper sat on the floor in front of him with a grunt, grabbing his leg before Gonzo could move it away. “How long has this been bothering you?” he asked, struggling to roll up the pant leg of Gonzo’s too-tight jeans.

“It doesn’t bother me.”

“Gonzo.”

“Alright, alright! Since Vietnam; what do you care?”

“Because you’ve been limping around the hospital for four days. What is it, a flareup?”

Gonzo tried to shift away when Trapper’s fingers found the shrapnel scars on the back and side of his calf. “Yeah, I guess,” Gonzo said. “It doesn’t usually bother me this badly.”

The marks were unfamiliar beneath Trapper’s fingers. He’d sewed up so many just like them, but he’d rarely had the chance to feel what shrapnel marks looked like when they were healed. Only on repeat offenders.

He lifted Gonzo’s leg and left a kiss just below where he’d managed to roll his jeans up to. “We should get you a cane. It would help.”

“Oh, come on, Trap! I’m not an old man.”

Trapper whacked his other calf. “Watch it. Old men have feelings too, you know.”

Contemporary audiences are used to tv shows costing one William dollars & also having contemporary effects available & I'm always saying this but you gotta understand that star trek tos was high budget for the 60s, it mostly just looks like that because of technological limitations at the time, and it was so hugely ambitious that they did have Some. Difficulty budgeting everything. But if you know How 60s Tv Was you can *really* tell this was a Big, Big Project. Most 60s shows couldn't, like, afford color film yet. You gotta have context you need the perspective
