It's time to bring this up.
What's with people not learning to tag their ships properly? I am looking at all you fans who are forcing your ship onto everyone's timeline. If it is romantic, then put a tag on it. We should all learn to respect each other's space to make it easy for everyone to filter out content they don't want to see.

For your own ship: flimsiest of fillers about canonical friendship-> "they are so canon!!! They are in love!"
For rival ships: actual canon materials included with actual romantic undertones -> "those are all fillers! They mean nothing to each other."

Isn't it funny how some shipping fans always say their rival ships' official materials are "fillers" even though their own ship is entirely built on fillers and a manga adaptation with an inaccurate translation of a novel that actually refutes their ship as being romantic?

Hello random KakaGai fan: it is absolutely fine that you like to ship Kakashi and Gai. But please do not criticize Kakaobi, KakaIru, and KakaYama fans for having their own ships by flinging around Konoha Shinden Steamy Ninja Scroll and saying any fan that thinks Kakashi and Gai are just besties is blind. Maybe people don't ship them because they understand there are deep meaningful platonic friendships, maybe people just never got that vibe, or MAYBE, just maybe...some of those fans think Kakashi and Gai are just besties because THAT IS THEIR CANON DESIGATION.
The Japanese text of Konoha Shinden Steamy Ninja Scroll novel literally says Gai is Kakashi's close friend from childhood...in a term that had zero romantic connotation. Anything beyond that...FANON. So how about you learn to respect other people's right to their FANON?

"let me create a blog so I can critique/make fun of toxic fan behavior in Naruto and now let me create a anti-shipping poll so I can find other people to trash on ships that I don't like".
Yup, pretty much the toxic hypocritical part of the Naruto fandom in a nutshell.

A Sakura fan writing something trying to explain why Sakura fandom and Hinata fandoms don't get along while calling Hinata a meek dependent housewife needing to be rescued while Sakura is feministic and useful is precisely the type of BS self hatred toxicity this fandom perpetrates on female characters. It also tells me that person doesn't know what the feminist movement was actually about. Both girls are fine. Don't turn yourself into trash over fictional characters.

Minato is a generic good guy. He is written as a generic good guy. He is created with every good guy and cool guy buff available to make you like him. There is nothing wrong with that. Doesn't change the fact that as a character he intrigues me about as much as a piece of white bread.
And the Minato/Kushina short story is NOT Kishimoto being able to write a good romance story. It is only "good" by comparison because Kishimoto failed terribly in selling the two major canon ships for Naruto so really it means it's average and forgettable at best.
So to that one Minato fan who refuses to accept that just because multiple people left similar comments on the reddit thread does not mean I had to copy and paste mine, who argues that I only find Minato to be boring becaus Naruto ended 10 years ago and is not as interested as all the "new gen" characters, AND blocked me from responding after making up scenarios I clearly didn't type:
Go touch grass and try to read something written before 1999 because it is too sad that anyone would consider Namikaze Minato to be peak good guy romance.

I can't help but feel the disconnect is strong whenever I come across Obikaka/Kakaobi fans complaining about one of the rival ships as not being canon, because I'd have to assume they all hate Kakashi if canonicity actually matters in shipping.

Why am I encountering so many KakaGai comments online that confuse fanon with canon materials?
Ever since Konoha Shinden anime adaptation came out in 2019, KakaGai has been gaining popularity. In fact, about 80% of KakaGai fanfiction on AO3 were published post 2019. And I can see why. It's one of the healthier ships for Kakashi in my opinion and there are a lot more canon interactions as Gai is officially designated as Kakashi's close friend. Konoha Shinden itself is a pretty fun read and while the original Japanese made me squeal about how Kakashi and Gai are friendship goals, the English translation...well, gave off a different vibe that is good shipping fuel I guess. Let's just say the English manga also made some translational choices that made me go...ok (Gai definitely did not say "that's MY Kakashi" for example. In fact, reading the English translation definitely made me reach for the Japanese version because I couldn't believe that's in the original text. Let's just say there were some important nuisances that could not get translated properly as well as some stylistic choices that I wouldn't have made).
Anyway, what that means is that inadvertently I am seeing KakaGai fan comments on more platforms everywhere, from Reddit to Quora to YouTube comments. Again, nothing wrong with staning your OTP. But WHY are most of their comments filled with fanon being passed as official facts?
The biggest one is obviously the one where Kakashi and Gai live together. Apparently it is all based that panel in Chapter 700 where they are sitting together at an outdoor patio.
Or that in Konoha Shinden novel Mirai compared them to her parents. Yeah, no, Kurenai was not mentioned. The so called comparison is "if Asuma is alive would he be more like Gai or Kakashi?" I get that Konoha Shinden novel was not released in English but there is a fairly decent fan translation floating out there that is easily searchable.
Even the Shinden trip itself is being framed as "they take vacations together" versus it's a mission under the cover of a vacation. In fact, the novel revealed that the "nostalgia trip" Kakashi mentioned taking with Gai in chapter 700 IS the Shinden mission.
I've also read so many partial representations of the actual context when trying to make a point of Kakagai being "canon", such as "oh, Gai can't wait to go to the bath with Kakashi" (the communal public bath btw) when it's really about Gai being afraid of ghosts, or the old married couple comment from Mirai which was clearly an comedic metaphor about their slow walking speed.
Is this just a case of the echo chamber effect and no one cared enough to actually read the actual materials? I don't mind anyone shipping OTPs but shouldn't you at least verify your sources and context before you spread something as fact? It's frankly straight up irritating to come across at this point (the "fanon being passed to canon" thing, not the ship itself).

First of all, I am a shipper myself. I normally stay in my own happy bubble and not give a shit about any other ships, AS WELL WE ALL SHOULD.
This is a vent blog created because Naruto shipping fans are dumb and inconsiderate enough to keep showing up on my space and I need to have a vacuum to shout into. I could make it private, but what's the fun with that? I will delete this account whenever I get this out of my system.
All views are of my views and mine alone. Anyone who uses them to try to start any fan war shit is just dumb and proves my point.
*Now expanded to include Naruto fans in general.
