Look around you. Appreciate what you have. Nothing will be the same in a year.

Totally meaningful to me as any day now I’m going to have my first child. I’m like totally trying to enjoy this silence and solitude I have right now.

Hey everyone! I’m Despina, as of right now I’m 36 weeks pregnant. I want to follow other mommy-blogs and also fitblrs on here (I plan on getting right back on my fitness journey as soon as possible after I deliver) so if you like or reblog I’ll be sure to follow you!
I started out this pregnancy at 72.5 kg (159.5lbs). I had just come back from NYC and had gained 13 pounds (before this I was 147lbs, 67kg). I’m 5′8.
Currently, at 36 weeks, I’m 84 kilos (184lbs). I’m pregnant with my first baby girl. I’m anxious to have her, not only because I obviously can’t wait to meet her, but because I really miss running!

I just want to share my experience and little bit of knowledge with you guys on my TSH during pregnancy and being on a T4 Supplement! There’s also a video here. Remember- I’m not your doctor so be sure to consult your OBGYN.
During pregnancy, your thyroid regulates the hormones T3 and T4, which are very important for the proper development of your baby. The baby acquires these hormones through the placenta, so its normal during pregnancy for a mother’s thyroid production to change and come under stress.
Your circumstances before you got pregnant will determine how much your gland is affected by this change. Your doctor can monitor this by checking your TSH. Its the hormone produced that triggers the production of T3 and T4.
As my blood tests showed, TSH is considered normal between the levels of .2 and 4.0 mIU/L. However, depending on your gynecologist, there are guidelines as to how high your TSH should be during pregnancy. My doctor very strongly recommended that my TSH be brought down to under 2.5 (it was sitting at 3.9). The American Thyroid Association recommends the following:
1st trimester: .1 - 2.5 mIU/L
2nd trimester: .2 - 3.0 mIU/L
3rd trimester: .3 - 3.0 mIU/L
A study done by the ATA in 2014 found that women with a TSH below a 2.5 were not at an increased risk of miscarriage compared to other women. You can read more about that study here. Read more.
My Experience
In my first trimester, as I mentioned, I had a TSH of 3.9 and my doctor insisted that I see an endocrinologist to be put on T4 and have it lowered. I didn’t listen to him immediately because I saw that I was within the limits (.2 - 4.0) and thought he was being overly cautious. But I noticed as my pregnancy continued that I was lethargic, gaining weight rapidly, depressed, having extreme mood swings and just overall a complete loss of motivation. I chalked this up to my pregnancy hormones for a while until my husband convinced me to finally listen to the doctor in the middle of my second trimester. As soon as my TSH level went down to around a 2, I saw a significant change. All these symptoms went away and I was feeling so much better. My weight gain has stopped, I feel motivated, I have energy and I am significantly less depressed (although sometimes I get the blues, probably simply due to being pregnant and hormonal). I hope this information will help someone else actually listen to their doctor and monitor their TSH levels!
