Hi! I have a question: Is there any specific reason why Tom is so intrigued by the idea of Harry and his love and the potential of their relationship? Tom is a dark character here, so I’m pretty amused by his appeal on romance since I see him as a budding dark lord who thinks romance is for the weak and a waste of time (or maybe here he doesn’t!) Maybe Tom is just a curious person, and that’s the only reason there ever would be for his choices now. Hahaha!

We know Voldemort considered love a weakness and generally dismissed it. But Tom, at the age he is now, hasn't made this conclusion yet. He also thinks love is a weakness, but he doesn't discard it as easily. He believes it can be a powerful tool, but he never thought he would be able to use it. The concept seemed too distant to him, and he doesn't have patience to make someone truly love him. He's fine with relying on other people's infatuation, curiosity, personal interests, ambitions, and so on. Harry's appearance has opened a whole new road of possibilities because Tom doesn't have to try much with him. Harry is already supposed to love him.

It's not that Tom wants unconditional love per se, it's that he wants what comes with it. He's fascinated by the idea of being loved and accepted by someone who knows everything about him, including his fears, his weaknesses, and his imperfections. He wants to see how far this love can be stretched, what he can do with it, how he can benefit from it. He also likes the thought of having something other people do when he never did.

Romantic love comes from an entirely new category, it has additional layers that can be exploited.

So, basically, Tom's interest is more rooted in calculation and possessiveness than in a wish for affection. But naturally, it will change - it is already changing.
