Hey, I'm new to Tumblr and was wondering why spam-liking posts is a bad thing? (I saw your rules said not to)

Hello! Welcome to tumblr :)

So I’ve been on tumblr for a loooong time (like since grade nine) and when I first started writing fanfics, spam-liking was, and under precaution still is, a big no-no. And there are a few reasons;

1. This is bot-like behavior to both account-user and Tumblr’s automatic monitoring software that “detects” bot accounts. This can lead to a shadow-banning* of the account that you spam-like.

2. Another reason I’ve seen others say they don’t like it is bcs it floods their notifs and things like asks/replies/mentions/etc., just get buried or lost (Tumblr now has a filter system for notifs that’s really nice to combat this but people may still prefer none all-together).

(There may be other reasons but these are the two main ones I’ve seen)

*shadow-banning in short-wind is when Tumblr hides your account, but it can seem like it still functions similar to a normal account. In reality, all posts made by the shadow-banned account are basically invisible to everyone. Posts don’t show up in tags, feeds, or notifs for those who may have them turned on for said account. This can be hard for those trying to share their work across any art-media platform.

The user of the now shadow-banned account can contact tumblr support to fix it due to detection error but I’ve seen instances where people never get it resolved. Thus, their account is basically dead since they can’t get anymore traction through tags.

To support blogs you become really fond of, here are some things I highly suggest!

1. Notifs!! Turn on notifs for new posts and reblog/like whenever they drop a post.

2. Interact/Share!! Reblogging with comments and/or hashtags; replying to specific posts; send in asks about specific posts.

3. Follow!! It never hurts to follow those you enjoy the work of.

UPDATE (again) —

I know I said I’d be back but…. My kitten is just full of surprises. He had an eye infection after his neuter surgery and now he is re-infected with parasites and now tapeworm.

I’m currently waiting results for my other cat..

I’m mentally at my breaking point right now. The vet bills are really expensive and I just don’t have the time or capacity to write anything at the moment. For now, I’m on temporary hiatus until this is done.

I’m so sorry to anyone waiting for more content. I want to create more but my cats come first. Please understand.

I’ll appear here and there but that’s doesn’t mean I’m back-back. I’ll need my little reality escapes to keep me sane :’)

UPDATE—

I will be taking a small break.

Recently, both my cats became infected with a highly contagious parasite. It is very difficult to get rid of and requires a lot of cleaning and attention. It is unfortunate but luckily it is treatable.

These two are my absolute world and I love them dearly. I’ve been crying frustrated tears nonstop bcs I feel terrible they have to go through this.

So between the stress of taking care of them, disinfecting my entire place daily, and the vet bills; I just feel emotionally and mentally drained.

As much as I would love to write and create smaus for all of you to enjoy, I need to focus on my kitties and myself until everything is better. I’m so sorry and hope all of you can understand! Much love <33
