"You let him read your letters?  He reads mine, too--even when it's not his place to read them."  Tears welled up again and Ludovic blinked furiously to keep them at bay.  "I hate it when he does that.  I just want to hit him so hard he falls down a well.  Vati tol' him to take CARE of his siblings--not to take OVER them!"

He reached into his pouch for the damp, disgusting handkerchief and dabbed at his eyes.  "I wish I was with Gilbert.  I wish ev'ything was like it used to be when we were all little--when I wasn' the on'y one growing backwards."  Ludovic hid his face in his hands.  "Jus' pretend I'm invisible, all right?  I'm too grown up to be acting like this.  Papa Rome would die of shame at me."

Ludovic laughed a little at the puffed-out cheeks, then blushed deep red at the thought of himself and Italy all grown up.  "I hope she's always part of my Empire," he said, nodding.  "An' I hope someday Prussia will join me, too--then it'd be like a lot of the fam'ly was all together!  Do you... ever hear from him?  Gilbert?"

Ludovic closed his eyes for a brief moment and leaned into the embrace.  His eyes stung a little; trying to cover up and not be caught, God forbid, with tears on his face, he took another sip of wine and hoped she would think it was just the unaccustomed drinking of the stuff.  Mead and beer he had every day, of course, because the water was never good unless boiled.  Wine was a different thing entirely.

"Sometimes I think maybe he wouldn' be so proud of me," he said quietly.  "I was doin' all right until... until there was that sudden plague of Hapsburgs.  Do you know--I got an inch shorter las' year."

He thanked her politely for the wine and sipped it, swallowing cautiously.  It felt good going down, so he had another sip.  The wine spread warmth down his gullet into his stomach.  "Danke, Schwester," Ludovic said quietly.  He looked around the room for a moment, then sighed lightly.  This time there was a rasping in his chest, but no immediate coughing.  "Do you... ever... wonder what Vati would say if he could see us?" he asked hesitantly.

"Do you have any mulled wine or mead?  I do not know where this came from, but it's taking a long time going away."  He looked away and spat something discreetly into the linen square, then bundled it all into his belt pouch out of sight.  "Maybe something like that would help, I dunno.  It'ly says it's good for everything that ails someone, but she's confused like that sometimes."  He starts to give a bit of a sigh, and the coughing begins again....

"He... has odd ways to show it," the little Empire said quietly.  "I'm sure he'd say he does love me in his own way, but he's gotta realise I'm old enough to take care of myself!  He an' 'Tonio need to stop buying my crown and sharin' it among Hapsburgs--and then actin' like it's theirs. It's... embarrassing."  Ludovic began to cough--rather hard--and pressed a handkerchief to his face, putting his free hand over the centre of his chest.  "Oww.  Excuse me."

Ludovic made a face and glanced down; the cough that occasionally plagued him blossomed in his chest, and he found himself putting a hand to the base of his throat as he coughed.  "Some people have really nice manners--like Bruder Roderich, for instance," he murmured.  Ludovic looked up again with a wry smile.  "But I wouldn' trust him behind my back."

Ludovic can't help blushing still, but the words are heartwarming.  "Th-that would be nice--there's not a lot of people who feel that way about me, these days."

Ludovic blushed crimson to his hairline and hugged back, trying to form coherent words.  "I...uhh... buuh... umm... you're very friendly!"

Ludovic immediately gets up, jumps down from his chair and comes around the desk, where he bows politely.  "It is a pleasure to meet you, too!  How are you faring this beautiful day?"

"Oh--hallo, you're Lilli, ja?"  Ludovic looks up from his work.  "I'm Ludovic von Valkerath--we're related, ja?"

Of course I know where it is!  I live here!  *He's just trying to look big and manly and all that....*  I'm not nervous!  An'... an'... that's not ladylike.  C'mon.  *Ludovic leads her around the stone wall toward a small courtyard where there are spits and roasting pits, tables where people are chopping things, and what-have-you.*  It's right through there!

I can’t think of a way either HRE or my Ludwig could interact with you, because HRE is way in the past and (at least in my head) IS Ludwig… and because the awesomeness of two Ludwigs in the same room with the same basic job and canon would just… blow up the world or something.  O.O

My Lud interacts with about 4 other Luds on a semi-regular basis including one that’s four. It’s the multi-verse theory only everyone’s aware of their other selves.  So if you ever wanted to, you’re welcome to.  My Lud does enjoy collecting other Germani.

As for HRE being in the past, I don’t have much of an answer for that.

I think Luddy may have interacted with you a bit--Ludwig Freiherr?  And I suppose he could find himself in the modern era, HRE could... he would no doubt be very surprised.  :)

*He huffs and draws himself up.*  Empires don’ haf time for teasings.  But a picnic sounds nice.  We could go to my Boss’s kitchens an’ get some food.

[about the same size as him at this point, takes his arm in hers with a giggle] Lead the way then. Even Empires need to take a break sometimes! There’s a nice tree not too far to sit under. Once we’re done exploring the kitchen, anyway.
