The fan idea that Karin and Sakura would kill each other for Sasuke is so dumb.
They canonically got a chance to get each other killed, remember? Karin could have stayed silent when Sasuke was standing behind Sakura with a chidori as much as Sakura could have killed Karin when Sasuke ordered her to. And they didn't.
They didn't want each other to die.
In that moment, both understood the depth of the darkness Sasuke was in. They recognized they were victims, they were in danger and that they wouldn't sacrifice a girl so much like themselves for a twisted version of the boy they fell in love with when they were still foolish little girls.
What we got was Karin feeling upset when she saw Sakura crying so sadly and Sakura healing Karin on the spot. Even when they were enemies at the moment, there was an unspoken sentiment between them: I won't sacrifice you for him.

I think Hinata and Sakura have merit but only accidentally.
Kishimoto is very good at capturing the full personalities and even backgrounds of the sorts of people he met in real life, but in the end it's just an advanced copy. He fails to actually understand many of them. Just as with believing all war is caused by "grudges", he makes weird assumptions about the root of people's problems based on concepts he holds close and wants to believe are universally applicable, then tries to work backwards toward a solution from a false premise.
I was very excited when I found out Mebuki was intended as canon. He built a perfect representation of the kind of emotionally & socially abusive parental relationship I grew up with, crafted Sakura into the exact kind of overachieving but judgemental child that I had to be to survive that experience -- and then, from his beliefs about the family unit, Kishimoto reverse engineers the baffling solution of "just be more grateful".
Similarly, Hinata does make sense. Abused and neglected kids will absolutely latch onto a person like that. And they will confuse the infatuation they feel for this person they desperately want to be like with a "crush". But Kishimoto again misunderstands what it is that Hinata needs. He works backwards from his belief that women should be housewives to the conclusion that granting Hinata's wish will solve her very deep-seated problems.
It's mind-boggling that he can build such true-to-life characters only to provide them with oversimplified and frankly insulting solutions. Knowing that many of Kishimoto's characters are inspired by real people he has known makes this pattern even more troubling; It's like he's seeing the depths of human experience but not listening, choosing to mute people's voices, superimposing his own gospel tapes over people's real lives, and then broadcasting it for the world.
...I just realized it feels a lot like Dr. Phil.

Made a little height chart of my OCs for Ninji Fight! Some character descriptions below:
Jin (age 14, she/her 🏳️⚧️ )
Jin is an anxious mess and mediocre kid who tries to find her place in a ruthless world. Originally from the Land of Birds, she was sent to Konoha at age 11 as a failed human experiment (didn't end up with the special ability her captors wanted), and doesn’t remember her early childhood. At first, she has a complex about being older than her cohort and not having a clear skillset, but becomes a decisive and strong leader with the help of Raido. She is later joined by her “cousin” Nobori.
Jin has Water Release. She can thus do basic jutsu like water clone jutsu, and later learns water prison jutsu. She becomes more reliant on taijutsu from sparring with Hanabi after initially facing off in the chunin exams. Jin soon becomes the de-facto captain on missions with her team. She also has a propensity to cause flooding in any place where she fights.
Jin likes to eat cake and collect plushies in her spare time. For clarification, Jin presented as male until she comes out in her 20’s as transfeminine.
Futaba (age 12, she/her 🏳️🌈 )
Futaba is a shy and gentle girl who adores her parents and brother. From the start, Raido sees massive potential in her and trains her to become an absolute menace on the battlefield. Though she starts out sheltered, she is impacted by Pain’s Invasion and loses her brother during the Fourth Shinobi World War. She bonds with Hanabi and they learn to process grief together :’)
Futaba has both Earth and Wind Release. She learns to summon giant carnivorous plants and picks up Flower Ninja Arts while on a mission to the Land of Vegetables. When she gets emotional, destructive earth spikes appear, much to the dismay of everyone around her. Due to her large chakra stores and wide range of abilities, Futaba is easily the strongest of her team.
Futaba likes to crochet and watch horror movies in her spare time. She crushes on Jin after Jin saves her life in battle.
Koji (age 12, he/him 🏳️🌈 )
Koji is a loudmouth who jokes around to hide his abandonment trauma. He is a distant relative of Anko Mitarashi, whom he calls “Auntie Anko”. Though he technically has a father, Koji is left to his own devices due to his father’s alcoholism. He is independent by nature and according to Anko, manages really well for a 12 year-old. Throughout Shippuden, Koji learns to ask for help and be more open about his feelings. He grows especially close to Eiji, a shinobi from Suna whose obnoxious teammates Koji casts a silencing jutsu on during the Chunin exams.
Koji has Fire and Lightning Release. He can make fireballs and all that stuff, but his skill also lies in making traps and explosives. He later devises his own twist on Chidori by observing Kakashi. Koji likes to burst through windows while making an introduction (not relevant when discussing his combat skills, but since Futaba and Jin have their own gag ability, Koji gets one too)
Koji likes making prank scrolls to transport ridiculous things. He is a sweets conoisseur and a really good cook.

Team Aoba (from left): Aoba, Matsuri, Nobori, Daichi
Uhhhh they're in the same year as Konohamaru and I've been brainrotting them for 10 years now. It was about time I drew them!
#By “repurposed/ascended OC” I mean that all 6 genin appear as younger academy students in Naruto filler#but were throwaway characters who never appear again so I gave them aged-up designs and backstories.#Matsuri is biracial btw#naruto#naruto oc#naruto fanart#oc#oc art#anime art#my art#fanart#illustration#sketch

Naruto really is such a hot mess of a concept though. Imagine if there was a story about western assassins, but they rarely do any actual assassinations and also they all have magic powers that came from space. And the entire story has this overlying theme of “Is perhaps the system wrong and corrupt?” and after the entire series telling you it is, the very last chapter is like “Nope it’s fine.” And by the end of the story it’s entire fandom has no idea what actual assassins do.
