Saw something about Hua Cheng always being able to sense his ashes so he can always sense Xie Lian and I just think it adds a hilarious take to him giving Xie Lian his ashes. Like yes it’s a beautiful and romantic ghostly tradition but there is something so funny about him given them to him the moment he has to leave so he doesn’t lose him again after 800 years of searching like someone tagging a bird to track their migration habits. He is not taking no fucking chances.

Are you crying? Please don’t cry, my baby. I am right here. Why did you shy away from me? Don’t you love me anymore? If I didn’t, I wouldn’t have counted down every single day to see you. Then, why are you upset? You came back without telling me. Why did you play with my feelings like this? It was if you didn’t know what every second that I await for your return means to me. I’m sorry. I’ve also been eagerly looking forward to seeing you again. During the past few months, I immersed myself in studying so that I could graduate a semester early. I barely slept or ate. All because I wish nothing but to see you as soon as possible.

ขนมชั้น (pronounced 'Khanom Chan') is a Thai "layered dessert" that can be described as a coconut jelly with a silky and chewy texture. Khanom Chan is prepared by mixing three types of flour (rice, tapioca, and arrowroot) with coconut cream, coconut milk, and sugar. The already white mixture can be divided and then dyed green by using pandan juice. It is made to have nine layers (alternating between colors, starting and ending with green) since the number nine holds auspicious value as being representative of luck, happiness, and prosperity. The dessert is often cut into green and white squares, but more modern varieties can come in various colors and shapes.

Let's highlight a few scenes...

Once again, there was bit of a mistranslation here between the Thai and the English subtitles. Pin says to Anil, "You've gotten into the habit of surprising people just like Westerners do, do you know that?" Anil responds, "Not only the habit of surprising everyone, my way of expressing love is also like that of Westerners."

Why is this culturally relevant? Long courtships are valued in traditional Thai relationships, and even more so when dealing with arranged marriages between Thai royalty/nobility. Women are not usually so forward with their advances and affection.

I, also, want to talk about public displays of affection (even though Anil and Pin were in private 😜😜😜). We're talking specific to TLP's time period: In 50's Thailand, it was common for couples to link arms or hold hands while out in public. However, kissing (and sometimes even hugging) would be frowned upon as 'improper/impolite' behavior... most especially unacceptable between same-sex couples. (Unfortunately, some of these outlooks have carried over to modern times, as well... depending on the setting.)

The sequence of having these two conversations back-to-back was brilliant storytelling... again, if only to solidify the very different dynamics between each pair based on the core of their characters.

It has been established by now that Prince Anan was the one who, essentially, raised Anil. He is extremely protective of her and often pampers her. When Anil expresses her intention to never be married, he meets her with realistic sympathy and then proceeds to change the subject when he sees her unhappy. Princess Patt, on the other hand, always reminds Pin of her 'duty' and pushes her to follow marriage traditions... regardless of Pin's objections.

Anil is clever in the way she detracts herself from her potential suitors. To avoid being outright and socially rude, she holds herself in a manner that can be seen as unbecoming/unladylike in order to dissuade their pursuance. It's still a very bold move, but not one that any lower ranking suitor would call out for fear of insulting a princess.

I'm including this scene for sociocultural purposes... I SWEAR!!!

Really, though... it's important to note that Pin is very much at the whims of her social circumstances and the series has reminded us of this at every turn. She is reserved and always adherent to social class rules (it's why she never speaks out of turn with Kuea). BUT... this is one of the first instances in which we see her take control. And Anil allows her to. It's a glimpse of a Pin who isn't afraid to go after what she wants. It's also representative of the strong and intimate trust shared between Anil and Pin, in spite of their backgrounds.

✎ Commentary of Ep 7 ~ The Loyal Pin (Thai GL-2024) - Part 2

In life I only aspire to be as forward and well-spoken as Pin. Such a classy lady! Very demure, very lady like of her to reject this man for the nth time being this polite and calm! (Could never be me!) I love her so much, it was so nice to hear and read this, and to witness! You tell him queen!

Anil might be a princess but she bag herself a ✨queen 💅🏼✨

Pin was flabbergasted, gagged, confused is an understatement. And so was I.

Exactly! I made that exact same face Prik! The audacity of this man!

No. She will never love you. Leave 👏🏼 her 👏🏼 alone 👏🏼 Don’t even get me started on the starting a family part. Move! Remove yourself from my sight as well!

GODDAMN!! That’s the most polite go fuck yourself I’ve ever seen. That must’ve hurt. Serves him right tho! When is he gonna learn???

Wish I could say he finally understood, but from spoilers of furthers episodes and the trailer itself I guess the fuck not. The man is insufferable!

Not Pin complaining to Anil’s most loyal supporter and calling Anil, Prik’s Princess when she’s mad at her little girlfriend for not writing her more letters hahaha

And Prik getting right back at her with that comment of haven’t she won both your heart and your… and Pin panicking right there and then ahaha please they’re so funny.

As a side note I must add Freen’s deep voice (when Pin snap at Prik) still hunts me at nights 🥴

THE LETTERS!!!

I might die alone and single after this! Cuz what do you mean this level of romance doesn’t exist anymore???? The softness, the yearning, the handwritten poetry???

Why is it always “I like you. You’re good” and never “Please accept the caresses of my lips on your left cheek, right cheek and your forehead” Why????

A year has passed already! We’re moving fast!

THE GIFTS!! Love all the precious gift they gave each other, they were so meaningful! You could see they absolutely love them.

We know how much Pin loves collecting small little souvenirs from her princess so I can only imagine how much she appreciates the gifts Anil so thoughtfully gave her. She had them made! The Princess is not joke!

“All I want is for you to return to my arms” Nevermind! She doesn’t want gift she just wants her girl back in her arms!!! 😭😭😭

We have one more year to go, be strong sweeties. We can do it!

Oh, she goes to her room every day. Every. Single. Day! Oh to be loved like that!

Such a beautiful scene, them laying down in the bed facing each other as the intertwine their fingers. It’s all in Pin’s head but it’s just so lovely!

And then that little hugging scene where Anil imagine Pin warming her up with the scarf she made herself for her. Ahhh it’s all just pure love and romance! Love it so much 🫶🏻

Then we have another sequence where Pin tells Anil about her new job as a translator and isn’t it amazing how much they’ve grown?!

We also have another small time jump and we see Pin complaining to Prik again about the lack of letters from Anil. Prik tries to reassure her it’s probably because the princess is too busy finishing school and she’s not far off the truth.

Pin goes on which I guess is her daily walk visit to the Pine Palace and she misses her princess so bad she starts hallucinating her there. (Pin, sweetie 🥺)

But guess what? Pin hallucinated so strong that she actually brought Anil back!

The Princess is right there behind her and I can’t wait to see Pin lose her lady like marbles! Hahaha
