St Hollywood bbys - Misantrop
Greetings n salutations hoomans!
We’re celebrating Mother Amber’s at the club again this year, so yall are invited to come celebrate with us! Don’t ask us about the number tho, all we know is they’re a ancient vampire who stopped counting after 300.
We’re super happy to have the cute and extra talented Unsound buddy Nicolai aka Misantrop join in the celebration!
A Berlin transplant via Copenhagen, Nicolai is currently finishing his studies on sound art. His mixes are weird and bubbly, full of convoluted modern bass mutations and dark syncopated treats. He also makes music as Glass Knot with Metalized Man, runs the Force Field nights at Loophole and has a radio show on Threads.
He compiled a few tracks for us to get yall in the mood chekkit!
youtube
Everything Clara! and Maoupa Mazzochetti do is just off the charts, this track is one of my faves from the recent album! Slow-mo twitchy dance floor heat bomb.
youtube
Kuduro at its very finest! This whole record is solid gold, but “Avacs” is one of the standout tracks to me - hypnotic as hell. A little on the short end perhaps but keeps you on your toes.
youtube
Classic hardcore madness. Impossible for anyone not to lose themselves to this!

Saint Hollywood bbys - Anca Dello Russo
Dears,
First off, happy 2020!
We spent the winter break replenishing our energies, re-aligning our chakras and focusing on what’s most important - the music and the people that we love.
We’re over the moon to finally have Berlin fashion queen and rap nerd Anca Dello Russo in the Saint Hollywood booth!
My first contact with Anca was actually sometime in fall 2018 when she was invited to play a set for a fashion event at Apollo 111. I only knew her as the fem-sex-posi force of nature on insta, where she always sports the most fierce choice of outfits and badass rap lyrics, so I was thrilled to discover what a warm and giving person she was IRL, not to mention liking the same kind of post-clubbing weirdness I was into. We’ve been talking about doing an event together ever since, so I’m beyond happy to finally make that happen.
Besides freelancing as a stylist, Anca also works at Trauma, which is one of my favorite Berlin venues.
Get to know her a little bit better below and hope to see all u qts on the 7th!
♥♥♥
Born and raised in post-communist Bucharest, Romania as a single child from a middle-class family with mixed cultures, I studied foreign languages at my parents’ wishes till I was old enough to become a rebel when puberty hit and ended up going to art school in Bucharest. After that everything became an experiment thanks to my shape-shifting and ever-changing personality, being the type of person who understands things fast and gets bored easily by anything that doesn't stimulate my intellect, I pursued satiating my hunger for the aesthetic and the absurd.
I started working in movies, fashion, marketing, you name it! All that until 2015 when I decided to leave Romania for real and get a bit deeper into knowing what I liked and how. I settled in Berlin ( where else?) and discovered that I‘m attracted towards anything on a high-energy frequency, from people to activities.
My passion for music started when I was around 14, the moment I first heard Laurent Garnier and Pantha du Prince alongside Delano Smith (that I happened to meet at 18 at an after we set up at a friend’s house, that was one of those moments that set me up for really connecting myself with the scene), Theo Parrish,Three Chairs and Alton Miller at a friend’s and decided I need to dig deeper. Of course I began with electronic music as I was also the so-called adopted child of the house scene in Romania. I was lucky enough to live in an Eastern European city that had deep house and soul funk at that time as one of its main inspirations when it came to underground music.
I never worked towards a DJing career. I guess just the passion for music and people in general, as well as the different cultures coming together in this industry slowly made me get more acquainted with this side, to the point of taking the step of trying my hand at DJing myself and making people get crazy at parties once in a while.
I can't say I have a specific genre of music that I like to play since I don’t consider myself to be a professional DJ, but to me it’s just a fun thing to do every now and then, although I do have big soft spot for all things trap, rap, Afrobeat, baile funk and any kind of booty music, the kind that makes you lose control. I have a few people around me that I deeply love and respect, so they inspired me to the core and besides that, it’s a mood. Like I said, anything on a high vibration, anything that doesn’t let you take a break or bore you. Just like the people around me and myself, it’s a story. One of those stories you really wanna keep on listening. Artists like Stimulus, Bearcat, LSDXOXO, bbymutha, Zutzut and Dinamarca have had a huge influence on me.
Three tracks that i listen to any time i want to get in a big mood
♥ https://soundcloud.com/babelishofficial/rdam
Babel-ish is a DJ and producer from The Netherlands. His sets and live performances gravitate towards house and Black music mostly. This track in particular could probably rise me from the dead!
Second one is this small masterpiece from Tygapaw. I mean, you really gotta be living under a rock to not know about Tygapaw, the Caribbean God behind some of NYC’s most inclusive after-hours parties! If you really don’t know what i am talking about, just listen to this track.
This third baby is another one that easily zones me out no matter what and where. Queen Delish of course!! Having cut her teeth on the ballroom circuit as both a DJ and performer, this vogue femme track just sets the vibe for any epic night.

House of Hollywood - Norvina Bucurovici
So far on this blog we’ve focused on the guest DJs, but since Saint Hollywood is more than just a party we thought it was about time to focus on the other people that make this night so so special.
One of the newest members of the Saint Hollywood family is the gorgeous Norvina Bucurovici, a very young and absolutely Fierce with a capital F queen who quickly became a vital part of the celebration.
I originally met Norvina through my first drag Romanian drag friend Iany, back when she was co-hosting the wildest drag night in the East at Thor’s Hammer.
Her unapologetic style, passion and all fabulous around relentlessness make me so happy to call her our resident queen and a dear friend. Since July, she’s had a spot on every Saint Hollywood party, often with a couple of lip synch performance moments.
She’s since walked a couple of fashion shows, been featured in the young Romanian press and won several trophies in the first Bucharest ball.
She sent us a brief description and shared a few of her favorite tracks to lip synch to, check em out below!
Bonjour! I'm Sergiu, also known as Norvina Bucurovici from the house of Dacia and I am a “way too young to be doing this” drag queen from Bucharest, Romania. I’m 18 years old and I've been doing drag for as long as I can remember. As a kid, I would put towels on my head and dance on a bar in my yard when my parents had parties, or in the street with the neighbors. I was probably 4 or 5 back then. And here we are today! Norvina was born in 2017 , but I've only started having gigs in the spring of 2019. If there’s one thing you need to know about Norvina Bucurovici is that she loves drama. She also loves to show her body and have a good time on the stage of Saint Hollywood. And most particularly she LOVES being in the spotlight.
It's really hard for me to choose only 3 songs I love, but I'll try!
youtube
Sometime in the future I’d love to do a lip synch performance on from this track by Lil' Kim - it's all about sex and that's what I sell love to do and put forward in my shows.
youtube
Another song I absolutely love is "Freakum Dress" by Beyonce. this song is EVERYTHING! I mean, it's Beyonce! It’s all about the glitz and the glamour! What’s not to love??
youtube
The third one I’d choose would probably be "Dirrty" from Xtina, which I will actually perform for this upcoming Saint Hollywood show. So you better be there Jan 7th if you wanna see it!

Saint Hollywood Bbys - Beaner
a TEXT for St. Hollywood, on this most Holy of days
(PR 3rd person)
A Beaner by any other name would sound as tortured. ( El Frijolero, Skirtchaser, Penetrated Tweeter, Arcadio Alcala, Khrom Ju, Ol’ Dirty Beaner, El Jefe, War Vs. Sleep, the 3 Good Doctors, the Garbage Mill + Regurgitator, Fart Patrol, or just plain Pablo ). Co-founder of collective/cult/sleeper cell La Mission, dark italo orgy Power Mustache, 24hr afterhour Im Fruehtau, music night to survive to I’m Still Alive, food trough Beaner’s Backyard BBQ, and the terribly named but always fun Bean+Norm = Be Normal. Avid book reader. Low/No Intervention wine nerd. Anarchist. Suffer the Rave-er. Major depressive prone to crying at the most inane of things, but still doing well enough to not be dead quite yet. Now that you are caught up… here is some more news.
After finding all the load bearing walls in his "House of Identity" had crumbled in quick succession, dat Beandog didn’t know who he was or what he wanted to do anymore. He slowly came to the conclusion that t'was better to get lost far away in order to eventually rebuild that person-house somewhere. His home was sublet for a year, 4000 records were left behind, and the goal became ONLY paying mind to the important:
Autonomy. Affection. And neither without the other.
Romania will now be a little chapter of the story.
(Personal Msg 1st person)
I am no longer in the music business. I “quit”. I do still music, when given the opportunity, though. I am going to crash-land in Bucharest, at Saint Hollywood. With radical terrorist USB intensity in my pocket, but also fucking jokes. In a universe so absurd as to create consciousness of ones own mortality, all jokes are funny and they are played on YOU! From a stage; Made of a pile of corpses. {{{ WHAT A COUNTRY! }}} It isn’t funny until we are all crying, and it isn’t truly a tragedy if it doesn’t remind you of the Marx brothers movies.
Join La Mission. I feel like chicken tonight. Work that Motherfucker! This is an Alarm Call! My pussy pops, severely. Looks like a pump, feels like a sneaker. Be realistic - demand the impossible!
Please don’t give your heart to a world system based on exploitation of the luckless, give your heart to US! here are some songs. i might play them, you will just have to be there to find out. (continued here)

Saint Hollywood Bbys - Ana Satana
For our next Saint Hollywood celebration taking place 30/07, we’re super happy to finally get local qt Ana Satana, who runs a lovely podcast+event series called Intersections. Her penchant for machine music with sharped edges lead her to play all the cool local venues, as well as revered festival Rokolectiv and share the stage with the likes of Nkisi, December, Vladimiri Ivkovici and Deena Abdelwahed.
In preparation for her dark incantations tomorrow night, she shared with us the three tracks that moved her.
youtube
Eva Geist is an Italian producer, based in Berlin.
She creates these beautiful electronic journeys into her thoughts, and in this case, dreams.
This one for me is so dreamy that I can let it play on repeat for hours and just get carried away.
youtube
Going straight into post-punk’s greatest with Japanese performer Phew, one of the most influential ladies in avant-garde. She’s done some very experimental stuff , working with the likes of Conny Plank, Holger Czukay and Jaki Liebezeit.
This track is quite chaotic and energizing, and the chords really touch my insides.
It’s both a ‘wake me up & a ‘pick me up’.
youtube
I’m quite sentimental when it comes to Pink Industry, they’re one of my all-time favorite bands. This track has a very special quality of being relatively sad but uplifting at the same time. The riffs are absolutely dreamy, and even though it has a pop, kind of cheesy quality to it, I love it.

Saint Hollywood bbys - Denham Audio
Last summer, my friend Chris, better known as Aquarian, played our party just before his Berghain debut. The second he posted the first story from the party, I got a message from Peri of Sheffield crew Denham Audio asking if they could come play. In March this year, I had two British guys sleeping on my sofa. We has wicked fun and the rest is history.
With a recent Boiler Room and an upcoming split Ep with Violet (yes, THE Violet!) on Frendzone and another bouncy set of tunes with Borai, Denham Audio have sure been keepin busy since the last time we saw them.
They reshape the British hardcore rave heritage into sleek modern productions that transcend the boundaries of bass sounds fresher than ever. Peri was kind enough to share a few of his favorite tracks for us.
So for this I thought I'd pick 3 tracks for different parts of the night, open, middle and close.
youtube
Opening song of our set in Bucharest! The grumbling undertones with that distinctive vocal really set it apart from a lot of stuff I’ve heard lately, also feel it works at all times of the night, but pitched down it makes a great set opener.
youtube
Found this while getting lost on Youtube looking for 90's hits and came across a gay pride mix, start to finish was full of bangers but this one really caught my ear and been playing it out ever since.
youtube
Perfect end of the night song, full of feel good sounds and just a stone cold classic for me. One of my favorite songs!

St Hollywood bbys - Andi
For this next murky summer celebration, we have a very special guest to help conjure your inner goth vibe. We’ve been internet friends for over two years now and we couldn’t be happier to finally have her over in Vampireland!
Andi is a New York City-based DJ/Producer, and the founder of the dark synth and industrial party, SYNTHICIDE. She has been cultivating the dark electronic scene at Brooklyn's notorious venue Bossa Nova Civic Club since 2014. Her specific sound is sleazy, aggressive and unarguably danceable combining her devotion to underground 1980’s industrial, EBM, and new beat. Causing mayhem on murky dance floors she transmits decomposing machine music for the putrefied souls. She is also the author of Some Wear Leather, Some Wear Lace, an extensive look at Goth culture in the ‘80s.
She was kind enough to share some tracks close to her heart to get us in the mood for tomorrow.
youtube
Though the movie wasn't great, the Risky Business soundtrack is so beautiful. I particularly love this song, which reminds me a lot of Jan Hammer, by somehow blending melancholic sounds with tinges of hope.
youtube
This song hits all the spots for me with its freestyle beat and romantic lyrics.
youtube
I love a good sample in a track and Paracont manages to place them in line with melodic industrial vocals about electronic dreams.

St Hollywood Bbys - Mx Silkman
From Twitter DMs to actually coming to Bucharest from fuckin Cleveland, Ohio, Aerin Ercolea aka Mx Silkman is one of our most cherished friends and supporters.
Her musical journey to techno took the roundabout way of noise and power electronics, a raw nihilism you can still hear in her rugged, industrial-heavy sets. But the kind of techno she plays is fast, angry and cathartic. Aerin is also one of the few people we know who’s playing only vinyl and not being a snob about it. She’s been amassing records for over fifteen years and her collection was heavily influenced by growing up in the post-industrial Midwestern landscape.
Her love for all things gay, anarchist and techno also lead to the creation of In Training, an autonomous queer party striving to offer a space for marginalized communities, together with Father of Two and Kiernan Laveaux. For over four years, In Training has been responsible for curating nearly 50 monthly parties “that present a diverse range of performances that captures the essence of electronic music as an expression of hope and strength in the face of a dehumanizing and alienating society”, as she likes to put it.
She also makes music under the alias Auton, combining hypnotic, acid-infused techno with anarchist references from her Italian heritage. The mesmerizing La Lotta Continua was released last year via Doc Sleeps' excellent label Jacktone.
She sent us three tracks that inspire her before her coming to play Saint Hollywood and we're thrilled to finally be able to share them with yall!
youtube
Dollar bin find from a collection I found in Cleveland belonging to a rave DJ who died. His graffiti tag is all over the jacket I found this in written in silver marker. RIP DJ Gank.
youtube
Ripping deep off-kilter “hard minimalism” from 90s Germany. These two are like if Basic Channel and all their aliases used sonar radio recordings instead of dub reggae as their main influence. Definitely a dancefloor-clearer
youtube
Very sparse fast techno (Proto-trance?) That builds slowly over nearly 15 minutes. Absolute k-hole music. Too fast to play it all the time, which adds to how great of a track it is. The A-side is similarly great if you like rave whistle noises. Another find from the collection of the deceased DJ Gank. A shame we never met, as he had impeccable taste and has been a shadow-influence on myself and my friends since rescuing his collection from moldering at a resale shop.

Welcome to the Haus Ov Hollywood!
Dear cuties, queens, voguers, dance sisters, techno fairies and feminist comrades,
We are thrilled to welcome to the Haus Ov Hollywood, the blog dedicated to all things Saint Hollywood!
At the gates of the ancient Ottoman Empire, in the wild Eastern European city of Bucharest, for a brief Tuesday night, a special party is bringing together local queers and international friends on the dancefloor.
Created less than two years ago by local diva Amber Amber, Saint Hollywood is intended is a home for the sounds and bodies that may not have found a place elsewhere.
With the generosity of Control Club and a dedicated network of friends and allies, this modest locals’ Tuesday has grown into an exciting breeding ground for up-and-coming talent.
Andra Nikolayi, the driving force behind the party, has been serving up everything from hi-nrg disco to old school house during the parties she hosted as Amber and all things garage, techno, jungle, post-clubbing and bass as her Opal alias.
Every last Tuesday of the month, she invites a guest DJ who shares her passion for club sounds that fall just outside the norm to take us on an all-night, genre-bending journey.
Forget about white fuccbois, perfect mixing and genre purity - Saint Hollywood is queer, camp and tempo-hopping. The weirder, the better. We’re loud, fast and glam.
We strive to empower female, non-binary, POC, trans and queer DJs, as well as nurture a loose network of dedicated performers, dancers and visual artists who call the dancefloor their home.
On this blog we’ll be sharing features, mixes and other goodies about the many talented people we’ve been immensely grateful to have behind the Saint Hollywood booth.
And, as always, we hope to see you on the dancefloor!
Love,
Saint Hollywood
