i just wanna say as a huge lifelong harry potter fan I somehow NEVER considered the house-elves as a metaphor for misogyny until scrolling through ur acc and my mind is blown….. I’ve always retained a ‘house-elves were a well-meaning but poorly executed parallel to racism’ belief but holy shit its so obvious like they’re literally called HOUSE elves. and they stay at home all day doing the cooking and cleaning for their masters and claiming that it makes them happy and gives them purpose and it’s their choice to do it. the only house elf who dares to believe that he deserves to get paid for his work is shunned by the rest of them for not being a dutiful servant. all the male mcs are perfectly happy to stay complicit because ‘the elves like doing it!’ while the female mc is able to recognize the injustice, yet her activism is dismissed as annoying and overkill by the men. in all my years of being in hp fandom and analysis spaces i have truly never seen ANYONE point this out and they even TALK about how her ‘terf ideology’ is supposedly present in hp bc of tom riddle deadnaming or whatever but not this????? insane. not surprising though bc if they acknowledged this parallel they’d have to admit that ‘being brainwashed to enjoy your enslavement doesn’t make it ok!’ also applies to choice feminism

the SPEW thing makes her intentions with it pretty unambiguous, but i wouldn’t expect kids reading the series to be very up on their british women’s suffrage movement history. but i wouldn’t beat myself up over not catching it the first time, just like the house elves themselves, the whole point is that people are trained from a very young age to not notice it

looking back at the harry potter books with like… actual time frames you realise that the most ron’s ever gone without really talking to harry was like two weeks but everyone always makes such a bigger deal out of it because harry is the one who makes a gigantic deal out of it. i think the fandom should make fun of him more for how dramatic he gets when fighting with ron.

you read the books and each time ron doesn’t talk to harry the narration is like. harry woke up feeling miserable. he turned to talk to ron but then remembered they aren’t talking and that made him start wallowing in his own sadness. there’s no point in going to the great hall, he can’t eat. he spent the potions class looking at ron who decided to sit with seamus instead of him. he was so busy staring at ron wishing they could make up he didn’t notice his cauldron exploding. snape is screaming but ron is still not talking to him. he has detention? big deal. if ron was there they would have detention together
