here’s my headcanon on why wands are a staple in the british and american wizarding world.

so let’s say wizards start to make a truly wizard only society around the mid-1300’s because people are beginning to fear them. with this the blood hierarchy forms with pure bloods, half bloods, and muggleborns as well as the word muggle itself. now let’s say wands are amplifiers, they amplify the already there magic out of the persons magical core so the people who use wands are mostly people with weaker magic because they need that extra boost for them to perform spells.

with these two things in mind let’s say around the late 1400’s a prominent pure blood has a heir that will need to use a wand because he has weaker magic, and in these pure blood circles using a wand is seen as lesser. so the father of this heir begins to make a deal with wand manufacturers to get wands into fashion with pure bloods so that his son doesn’t look weak and this eventually works and moves down the social hierarchy so then every wizard in england uses a wand which eventually makes its way over to the americas because of immigration.

most european countries eventually develop the practice as well but schools not in european countries do not require wands because they are simply not needed and can often limit very strong magic users power.

also wordless magic is about the power of mind not magic so people with weaker magic but strong minds can easily do wordless magic.

sirius black headcanons because he fucking died today

• he mouth breaths when he’s hot like a dog

• he slowly becomes allergic to chocolate and by the time he escapes he’s deadly allergic

• he’s christian and wears a cross necklace that he rubs when he’s stressed. it’s got a divot in it by the time he escapes.

• in the wizarding world, you can connect your magical core to others as a permanent bond. it’s like marriage but it doesn’t have to be romantic. sirius and james do this illegally when sirius comes to live with the potters.
