It's a very exciting day today!  Cat (or P-Cat) is officially out of the bag. Recon is now an Intel company.
I still clearly remember how scared -- and excited -- I was when I first opened the office door rented from UBC (I took the photo above, imagining and dreaming that a day like today would come). I am so honored to have been part of the Recon journey and to have been a force that kept pushing it forward at important times when it really needed it. Starting and running a startup is never easy and comes with tons of ups and downs. We took on challenges and risks that, looking back, are hard to fathom. Sometimes it's difficult, even for me, to understand why and how we did what we did.  One of the keys from Day One was surrounding ourselves with amazing talents, investors and friends who became part of the canvas of Recon. I’d like to thank them all for helping us achieve our goals.
Big thanks goes to my friend and business partner Dan Eisenhardt for being bold and continuing to be a great listener and all-around awesome person. The first time I met Dan and heard him talk in the UBC classroom, I knew he was going to become a successful businessman. I was right!
Another big thanks goes to my Mom and Dad who taught me to stand up on my own feet, take risks, solve problems creatively and hustle to achieve results.
Cheers!

Iranian Mashadi (from City of Mashhad) Professional Football players!
I never forget huge celebration and street parties of 97 in North Vancouver Lonsdale street and West Vancouver Ambleside park after Iran's national football team made it to the worldcup. It was a few months after my family and I moved to Canada and I was a football player in a 3rd division team myself. good old days! Azizi  (see below) who scored the goal getting Iran to qualify is from my home town of Mashhad. Today again, after a long haul since 2006, Iran's football team made it to Brazil 2014 worldcup!! Such a great victory after a well fought football match! Such an amazing defence line, Goalkeeper and teamwork, mainly credited to new head coach Carlos Queiroz of portugal. I found after the fact that scorer of the only goal of this match is also born in my hometown of Mashhad! ... a bit of Mashhadi Humor :)...

I’m delighted to announce that we’ve reached an agreement to acquire Tumblr!
We promise not to screw it up.  Tumblr is incredibly special and has a great thing going.  We will operate Tumblr independently.  David Karp will remain CEO.  The product roadmap, their team, their wit and irreverence will all remain the same as will their mission to empower creators to make their best work and get it in front of the audience they deserve.  Yahoo! will help Tumblr get even better, faster.
Tumblr has built an amazing place to follow the world’s creators. From art to architecture, fashion to food, Tumblr hosts 105 million different blogs.  With more than 300 million monthly unique visitors and 120,000 signups every day, Tumblr is one of thefastest-growing media networks in the world.  Tumblr sees 900 posts per second (!) and 24 billion minutes spent onsite each month.  On mobile, more than half of Tumblr’s users are using the mobile app, and those users do an average of 7 sessions per day.  Tumblr’s tremendous popularity and engagement among creators, curators and audiences of all ages brings a significant new community of users to the Yahoo! network.  The combination of Tumblr+Yahoo! could grow Yahoo!’s audience by 50% to more than a billion monthly visitors, and could grow traffic by approximately 20%.
In terms of working together, Tumblr can deploy Yahoo!’s personalization technology and search infrastructure to help its users discover creators, bloggers, and content they’ll love.  In turn, Tumblr brings 50 billion blog posts (and 75 million more arriving each day) to Yahoo!’s media network and search experiences.  The two companies will also work together to create advertising opportunities that are seamless and enhance user experience.
As I’ve said before, companies are all about people.  Getting to know the Tumblr team has been really amazing.  I’ve long held the view that in all things art and design, you can feel the spirit and demeanor of those who create them.  That’s why it was no surprise to me that David Karp is one of the nicest, most empathetic people I’ve ever met.  He’s also one of the most perceptive, capable entrepreneurs I’ve worked with.  His respect for Tumblr’s community of creators is awesome, and I’m absolutely delighted to have him and his entire team join Yahoo!.
Both Tumblr and Yahoo! share a vision to make the Internet the ultimate creative canvas by focusing on users, design — and building experiences that delight and inspire the world every day.

Redness of recon
My friend just said there is some red in everything here at recon.
Here’s the story. When I registered the company back in 2008, I asked my uncle to design a logo for me. He was a new commer to Canada with a psychology degree. He himself was working on launching a business/website back then and fairly comfortable using photoshop etc. He designed me a logo with “rec” (black) and “on” (red) REC-ON.
Later I gave this design to our graphics designer who is now in Slovenia. Rok Oblak took this design and put the red in E (satellite). This was it. Ever since we have a spice of redness ( ON ness) in everything. :)

According to this press release they do… but friendly competition. I’ve got to admit – these look pretty cool as well! If I had a similar product, I would do a little piggybacking too. What say you, filmmakers? Would you ever make a film using this kind…
