People forget that Kendrick isn't a hater of Drake for no reason.

Kendrick is defending the raping of Black American culture, calling out Drake for his mistreatment of Black American women specifically (Serena, Megan Thee Stallion, hood girls etc), calling out the weird alpha bro behavior where they basically describe wanting control over girls cuz grown women don't wanna date their misogynistic asses.

It's bigger than Drake. We have some former white rappers who turned country singers claiming rap/hip hop isn't a real art form while trying to gatekeep Beyonce from country. We have people using AAVE incorrectly and trying to correct Black Americans on their own dialect. We have anti Blackness skyrocketing during Black History Month via the hate spewed at the Black Grammy winners Beyonce, Doechii, and Kendrick.

Yes, the beef was entertaining to a lot, but to the Black American community the beef represented Kendrick fighting for our respect and using his hatred to protect another genre Black people created that would've been dubbed "vapid party music" due to Drake's colonizer mindset.

I think in addition to rejecting the notion that asmodeus's backstory absolves her of responsibility for sexually assaulting priest and showcasing priest's rage, this is also just a really chilling moment of dramatic irony. this follows a series of chapters in which we get to see asmodeus's POV, and in that way, we learn to empathize with her, despicable as she is. we don't absolve her, but we all feel a sense of sympathy for her as we learn why she is the way that she is. right before this, we see the resolution to her character arc; a moment of understanding and catharsis in which she finally resolves the pain that has rested within her for thousands of years. she even apologizes to priest (albeit in an incredibly self-centered way, but she at least seems to acknowledge that trying to seduce him was foolish and was never going to bring her closer to sarah). as readers, we're ready for the fight to end here.

when priest slams the door and says this, he's not just talking to asmodeus. he's talking to us, the audience. you really thought this was over? what about MY rage? priest didn't see any of what we just saw, and, crucially, he doesn't care. he only cares about the fact that asmodeus took advantage of his innocence and desire to protect others in order to attempt to rape him, AGAIN. regardless of whatever suffering she's been through, he needs to see her suffer more for what she's done to him. the nightmares, the flashbacks, the trauma, the guilt. what about HIS catharsis? and he can make the fight last for as long as he wants, because he's the most powerful. he can destroy the world if he wants to. he can take life away and give it back. HE'S THE MAIN CHARACTER. lucifer is going to have a field day with him
