It’s wild to me to see transvestigator conspiracy theories online that could be so easily explained by natural human variation. That woman has a deep voice? Yeah, sometimes they do. A woman has broad shoulders?? Maybe she plays rugby or hits the gym a fuckton. There’s a “bulge” in her tight pants?? Maybe her vulva is just fat. All the “markers” of trans woman that transvestigators use to harass any woman aren’t even things unique to trans women.

Appreciated your response to the anon with the doomer friends and wanted to ask your thoughts on something related, which is how to respond to the joking, phatic (thank you for making me look this word up) kind of doomerism? My friends aren't as bad as the other anon's, but interacting with them in any medium is just an endless background noise of ironic comments about how we're all fucked, and it's miserable. Like actively killing my desire to spend time with people I care about.

Normally I would respond to that sort of thing is an eyeroll or its verbal equivalent, since it doesn't seem worth picking a fight over, and you can't harangue your friends into not passively absorbing the doomerist social media milieu.

But if your friend is doing something that gets on your nerves so much it makes you not want to spend time with them, it is perfectly OK to talk to them about it, regardless of what that thing is. I reckon mostly people do not want to annoy their friends on purpose, and where there exists this kind of tension in a relationship (romantic or platonic), you gotta communicate. "I know you're probably not doing this consciously, but all these knee-jerk everything-sucks-and-we're-all-gonna-die jokes really get on my nerves" is IMO reasonable thing to say to a friend, in much the same way you might say "your habit of listening to 'I'm Gonna Be' by The Proclaimers in the car on repeat at ear-splitting volume really gets on my nerves."

And in both cases, if someone is so attached to that habit that they refuse to accommodate people whom it annoys at all, they may have to deal with those people wanting to spend less time around them as a result, without that being, like, a moral judgement about their character.

I can't believe we're still talking about the "Disco Elysium but it's about a witch solving the disappearance of her neighbour's cat in the Alps" thing, but as long as we are: that was a fairly innocuous position! There's nothing about what they wanted that's unusual or problematic or would going against the grain of the format, really; the only thing that was offensive about their tweets was that they framed it as a kind of "taste war" where they framed "people are making things other people want instead of what I want" as a critique. Which would be fine if that were the only angle on which people were lampooning it, but in fact people were mostly recapitulating the substance of that subjection by implying that there's something objectionable about wanting what they wanted. Just an extremely stupid discourse on the whole
