A New King
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ivar would handle all things. Becoming his queen; you thought that no one would lay a hand on you. No one could access you. It was true… within reason. You certainly never thought anything of his elder brother. A jaunty laugh fell from the usurper’s lips, hopping up each step up to his new throne with a brighter smile than the last. The people had grown tired of the reign of a cruel king and instilled instead their own choice.
Bizarre because– you never saw him as the type to become king.
“People of Kattegat! All hail your new king!” He mocks Ivar’s words when he once became king. Your head is hung, arms tight in the hands of traitors. Where Ivar had gone, you couldn’t account for. You told him such. He would return… one day.
A jaunty slapping of hands rung from the proud crowd. Soldiers beat their axe heads against their shields reflective of Hvitserk’s new colours. Kattegat’s flag yet still flew with his father’s proud raven. No one expected anything from the dog set under brother after brother. Hvitserk grins with his hair loose about his chest. He was different. Transformed by the conditions that once had him carefree and bubbly into what he was now. A man of change.
His hands urge their howls down. “Wait wait! We haven’t chosen a queen!” He inclines his head, looking about blonde and brunette gathered. Surely, he could have picked any one of those. But spinning on his heel, he motions his fingers in your direction.
“Who would you choose (Y/N)?” He asks. You turn your face away.
“A king picks who he desires most.” You say with an inflective huff. Hvitserk lets loose a chuckle, looking out towards his beloved Ubbe. Who somewhere along the way became this kind of man. One with his head bowed and lips curled in.
“I want one to share with my brother.” Hvitserk inflects. “But she has to know how to handle a Ragnarsson.”
How to handle a Ragnarsson? You turn your hair, the high ponytail on your head brushing against the dramatic, deep red of your dress. Hvitserk’s eyes turn upon you, drawing along the swell of your breasts. In that exact moment, you know what he means. You know who he means as well, forcing the men to steady you when you try to take a step back.
“(Y/N) has made a great queen! Why change a good thing?” He swiftly bounces over to you, cupping your chin in his thick and war calloused hand. “Don’t you want to marry me, (Y/N)?”
Your heart leaps.
“Don’t you?”

“Blood must have blood.” (Part III)
Thank you again for the amazing feedback on this Fanfiction! I am so grateful for everyone single one of you! I hope you will enjoy reading this chapter.
Also, Asa and Alvgeir’s combat is inspired by Lexa and Roan fight scene in The 100 (3x04) and Lagertha’s part by 5x06 in Vikings (of course).
Let me know if you want to be tagged! xx.

“I was wondering when you will come to me.” Asa said, without turning her head towards Astrid. “You know who I am, don’t you?” She added before she dismissed the slaves who were helping her to dress for her combat against Alvgeir. “You are a lot like her.” Astrid responded as she closed the door of Asa’s room behind her. “Who were you for my mother?” She asked, painting parts of her face in black with her fingers. “I… I was her lover.” Astrid said softly as the memories of Lagertha came rushing back to her. “Did she ever talk about me?” Asa asked, her blue-green eyes locked on Astrid who remained silent for a while. “She mentioned that she lost children.” But her answer didn’t seem to please the young Queen who put her sword into her sheath with a slight anger. “I am taking that as a no.” Asa hissed, but before she reached the door she turned to Astrid again. “And you, Queen Astrid, what are you going to do with your child?” She asked viciously, Astrid’s eyes widened with shock. “I saw you this morning. I know you are not sick. And I know you are not happy about that pregnancy. But let me give you an advice, never abandon or underestimate your child. Unless you want to die from his hand one day.” As Astrid’s body twitched in fear, Asa left her room and headed to town escorted by Gunvald who was waiting for her outside. The sound of drums got louder and louder as she approached the battle ground, and when Asa made her way to the centre of the human circle she felt a hand on her arm. “I hope you know what you are doing.” Ivar said to Asa after he stepped towards her. “Did I know what I was doing yesterday night, Ivar?” She asked. Hvitserk and Harald exchanged a knowing glance while Ivar gritted his teeth. Once more annoyed by her repartee, he titled his head to the side before he released his grab on Asa’s arm. When she and Alvgeir met up in the middle of the crowd they turned to face the Pagan Priest who started to speak. “In single combat, there is but one rule: someone must die today.” They both nodded before they stepped away from each other to brandish their swords. “Watch and learn.” Gunvald said to Ivar, Hvitserk and Harald who was just joined by Astrid before the fight begun.
Before Asa turned back Alvgeir charged towards her, ready to attack. Aware of his intention she waited a few more seconds before quickly and nimbly moving to the side, harming his arm with her sword when she rotated on herself. As the crowd cheered its Queen’s first move, an almost imperceptible smile appeared on Ivar's face. As soon as Asa and Alvgeir faced each other again, the steel of their clashing swords echoed through the cheering crowd until he countered one of her attacks. As his strength obliged Asa to almost kneel on the ground Ivar grumbled, ready to throw his axe in Alvgeir’s head when he saw Asa grab the blade of his sword with her hand. Ivar’s eyes snapped open and looked up at her as she managed to push Alvgeir away. Taking advantage of his loss of balance, Asa kicked him in the chest to make him fall on the ground. As Alvgeir lost his sword in his fall, she took it before she put her foot on his throat. “F… Feelings make you weak. You are the one who... Who taught me that. But look at you, Asa…” Alvgeir said, almost unable to breath as Asa looked at him, her eyes full of anger. And before he could speak again, she planted her sword right in his heart. When the life had gone out of Alvgeir she raised her head up, glancing at her people before her eyes met Ivar’s. With a dark smirk on his face, he slightly bowed his head in respect before Asa looked up at Gunvald. “The traitor is dead. All hail the Queen!” He shouted with pride as the crowd cheered and made noise for her. But rather then enjoying and celebrating her victory, Asa disappeared for the rest of the day after she left the battle ground. Once again without looking at Ivar or at anyone.
Night had fallen since a few hours when Asa reappeared. She was sitting on the sand, looking at the sea and the boats who were ready to leave tomorrow at first light when she heard a familiar voice behind her. “How is your hand?” Ivar asked, crawling to sit next to her. “I experienced worse.” Asa responded while he glanced at her bandaged hand. “I believe you. You and I, we are much alike.” He said. “I am nothing like you.” Asa hissed coldly as she frowned and stood up. “Of course we are.” Ivar added before she could walk away for him again, turning his body in her direction. “People have underestimated us since the day we were born. They will always do, and you know it as much as I do. That is why you told me about Lagertha this other night.” Ivar was right, and as much as she hated that, all he said was true. Without saying a word Asa looked away. “So maybe we should stop using each other as weapons. And started to be true allies.” Unsurprisingly it was on yet another silence from Asa that their night had ended. As the sun rose on Kattegat, Hakon was taken to the Great Hall to deliver Astrid's message to Lagertha. “Did she say any more? How many ships they may have? How many warriors?” Ubbe asked to the man who told them that the attack will come in two moon’s time. “No. But I can tell you something. Ivar the Boneless has joined with King Harald, and they left for the Northern Lands to meet their leader.” Hakon confessed. “See that this man and his crew are well cared for.” Lagertha said to her slaves before she turned to face Ubbe and Torvi. “Who is their leader?” She asked with concern. In Asa’s kingdom her army was boarding to sail to Rogaland when she arrived on the docks. Completely dressed in black, her long brown hair was braided behind her head while between her two eyebrows was her small piece of metal. As Asa walked in Ivar’s direction, he stopped his conversation with Hvitserk to look at her in silence. After thinking about her decision one last time for a few seconds, Asa spoke. “I think we should sail together.”

Warning: Assault.
As you closed the doors of the Great Hall behind you, you rested your forehead against the wood to finally let go. Let go all the pain and the humiliation you felt in a river of tears. Your fingers creasing the fabric of that dress you hated when you heard a way to familiar voice behind your back. “Are you crying?” Ivar asked with in usual mocking tone. “No!” You yelled, before biting your lip and lowering your head. You were a Christian slave and he is the son of a Heathen King. The pet and his master. But rather than being angry at you it was a worry Ivar who came closer to you. “What happened?” He asked as you wiped the tears on your cheeks. “You don’t have to pretend that you care.” You responded, quieter than before but still careful to turn your back on him. “What if I do…” He said in his breath, looking away when you titled your head towards him. “I mean, you are upset. And I am the only one who is allowed to upset you…” As he tried to justify himself, a little smile appeared on your face. What if Ivar the Boneless did have a soft side? So after remaining silent for a while you slowly turned to him, the collar of you dress tore apart while the rest of the fabric was stained with mead.
That night you told Ivar everything. How the men ripped your dress, convinced that you were hiding a cross. How they insulted you. And how they threw their drinks on you. The next morning the exact same men came to you again, but to apologize, their faces covered with bruises and cut. “I bet you have nothing to do with their sudden behaviour.” You said to Ivar who watched the scene from the blacksmith’s porch. “Of course not.” He responded innocently falsely shocked by your accusation, making you both laughed. “You are under my protection now.” Ivar added, and before you could even thanks him or say anything he turned to the table next to him. “I… I have something for you.” He said, handed you a pendant with Thor’s hammer. “No one could doubt that you are a Pagan now.” His words left you speechless but with a bright smile on your face, and as you were contemplating the gift Ivar allowed himself to tied it around your neck. “It is beautiful.” You said, your hand covering preciously the piece of metal while Ivar’s were now on your shoulders. “So are you.” He whispered to your ear, making you blush before he headed to Great Hall as if nothing had happened.

Imagine Ivar actually trying his best to control his temper around you. It wasn’t anything new for him that people were scared of his aggressions, in fact he liked it. Yet, when it came to you, he didn’t want his loved one to be scared of him. Ivar would want to make you feel secure around him, even if that meant he sometimes needed to get ahold of himself. Let’s just say though, your benevolent nature didn’t always help him. “Y/N, is it possible that one of my ravens is missing?” “Oh.. I.. well it might surely be possible out of reasons that really no one could ever-” “What happened?” “I swear I just meant good. They are in their cages so much and maybe they wanted to fly. Well it really did but… it didn’t wish to come back I guess” “…” “Ivar? Are you mad?” “Of course not, my heart. How very nice of you”

“I cannot believe I let that happen... I am sorry.” The pain in Ivar’s voice hurt you more than the bruises who covered your weak body. With your fingertips you were gently caressing his cheek to make him look at you, no matter how hard it was for him you needed to convince him that he wasn’t responsible for what happened to you. “It is not your fault, Ivar.” You whispered to him, but no matter what you could say, he was overwhelmed by guilt. “Of course it is my fault. You are my weakness. They know that, and that is why they took you and they did that to you.” His ocean eyes darken a little bit more at every words, even your soft touch wasn’t able to calm him anymore. “You are under my protection now. I am not leaving your side anymore. And I promise you, my love, I will make them pay.”
And Ivar might break a bone but he will never break a promise. After his attack on the Saxon town even Hell looked like a peaceful place. He shown no mercy, fought and slaughtered every soul on his way to avenge you until he found the responsible for your suffering. The one who almost took you away from him, forever. “You made a big mistake.” Ivar said bitterly to a man who was barely breathing, chained to the cold and dirty floor of the cell. Lying on his stomach and his face covered with the blood of his enemy, Ivar looked at the Saxon who had dared touching you, laughing deviously every time he heard him beg for forgiveness and mercy. “Y/N is my Queen. And nobody hurt my Queen without being punished.”

You walked through the docks of Rogaland, looking for the man that you heard have return. “Ivar.” A name that you hadn’t pronounce since two years. Your voice was low and tired, your hair a bit messy, and your dress dirty and wet. But you made it. You made it to the man you belonged. When he turned to you, the exhaustion of the journey suddenly disappeared. “Y/N.” You watched Ivar walk to you. Walk, something you always knew he will able to one day. “I see that I missed a lot of things.” You said, his hand cupping your cheek. “How did you get there?” He asked as he still couldn’t believe his eyes. “Men were talking about you. They said you were back from England. Kattegat is my home, but Lagertha is not my Queen. You mother was and I will always be loyal to her, and to you. So I runaway.” You explained to him, your kindness and devotion towards his family had never changed. “I always knew you were different. You are under my protection now.” He swore to you before you both headed to the hall.
You told Ivar and King Harald everything you knew and heard about Lagertha’s plan until they allowed you to take a bath and rest. When you woke up a little while before dinner, the first thing you saw was a dress on the chair next to you. Judging by the fabric and the design only someone important could offer it. And you knew exactly who was that someone. An hour later you walked into the hall again, the feast just had been served when you made your way to Ivar. When he saw you approaching he stopped everything he was doing to look at you, it was the first time Ivar was lost for words. “Thank you.” You said making him smile a little, almost shyly. “It suits you.” He responded before he invited you to side by his side, his eyes all over you for the rest of the evening.

Forgetting Everyone Else IX
Tumblr media
A/N: this took too long, sorry. I don’t own any gifs
Masterlist
You felt Ivars hand creep its way up your chest, finding a place behind your neck as the other stayed on your back. His kisses trailing down your neck almost made you melt into him, “what is this?” You turned as the familiar voice rang in your ears, Ake. Your sweet husband stood blankly, staring at Ivars hands on your body.
You pushed Ivar away, you couldn’t draw yourself to look into Ake’s eyes. He just stood there, no emotion left in his heart, “Ake,” your voice a low whisper.
You bit your lip as his eyes ringed in yours, the rims red with, anger? Hurt? Your heart broke when he kept repeating his words, “what is this Y/N?” Ivar stepped forward to answer, but Ake sensed the young kings movements, his voice becoming more serious, less of the sweet tone he held with you.“I did not ask you to talk for her,” he titled his head, his eyes burning into yours so deeply. “Y/N?” His voice a ruff whisper.

In The Eyes Of The King Chapter 3
Warnings: Some violence
Words: 2,197
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hvitserk’s fear shot through him as he looked up. Ivar stepped forward out of the darkness, his face hardened and ready for blood. Hvitserk scrambled to his feet and held out his hands.
“Ivar. Brother, please…”
“You are no longer my brother.” Ivar hissed. Tora went to him, quickly, pushing at him to get him to move. But Ivar simply shoved her away, Tora crashing into the posts and the horses as Ivar stalked to his brother.
“Ivar, list-” Hvitserk’s words were cut short as Ivar’s hands wrapped around his throat.
Ivar x Lagertha Fanfiction
Tumblr media
Gif credit: @vikingsinuppsala
Warning: None.
Revenge was what drove Ivar. The murder of his mother let opened wounds that could only ill when Lagertha’s blood will flow. Asa had listened to him silently, her glance locked on him as his ocean eyes darken always more at every word who came out of his mouth. Sitting on her chair, she turned her head from Ivar to the massive wooden door in front of her when he finished to speak. “Will you join?” Ivar asked as Asa took a long sip of mead and put her cup on the table. “I will give you my answer tomorrow.” She said without emotion in her voice, and without looking at Ivar or at anyone Asa left the table to regain her room. Ivar sighed with annoyance when she disappeared behind the curtains before he turned his head to Harald. “She doesn’t interest me. She plays with my nerves.” He hissed to Finehair, making him and Hvitserk chuckled. “Oh doesn’t she remind you someone?” Astrid asked with a false innocence before Harald turned his head towards her with haste, but before Ivar could think about the double meaning of her words Hvitserk teased him. “And she interests you, Ivar.” He said to his brother with his mouth full and a mischievous grin on his face. Even more irritated than a few minutes ago, Ivar gave his brother a death stare and stood up from his chair to leave the hall after he wished them a good night. Lying on his bed, the suffering Ivar felt in his legs kept him awake for hours. It was almost midnight when he left the cabin to externalize his pain when a light near the sea caught his attention. Despite his state Ivar crawled in the direction of the burning torch, stopping a few feet away from the beach cave when he recognized the silhouette and the dancing shadow on the wall of the person inside. “Do not tell me it is dangerous for a woman to be alone outside at this later hour, Boneless. Because it is even more dangerous for a cripple.” Asa said, contemplating the runes she had just draw on the stone. She had temper and repartee, it was undeniable. Ivar looked at her rather impressed and with a smirk on his face, before he crawled to her.
“What is it?” Ivar asked as he looked at the drawings on the cave walls, lightened by the flames of the torch. “My journey.” Asa responded, finishing the rune of a ship. “I supposed that when you are called “The one who meets the Gods and the one who defeats them” having your journey on the walls of a cave is a normal thing.” Ivar said sarcastically, making Asa rolled her eyes. “Why are they calling you like that?” He asked after she confessed that she hated that nickname. She sat on the sand next to where Ivar was, her head turned in the direction of the drawings. “I was born at sunrise. Months before the day I was expected. The arms of Freyja were already holding me. So I was taken away, away to be buried.” Ivar glanced up at the runes as Asa told her story. “It was at sunset that my heart stopped. Freyja took the Sun and me to her hall the exact same day of my birth. But then, I started breathing again. Gunvald fought with the greatest Vikings and never saw them come back to life, but I did. So he gave me that name.” It was when Asa stopped talking that Ivar realized that the sound of her voice had took his mind and the pain away. “That giant is your father?” He asked. “I don’t know my father, but Gunvald is the one who raised me.” Asa’s voice was cold again, so as her eyes when she looked at Ivar. He lowered his head for a while, thinking. “Boats and Vikings. Do I understand that you will support me?” He demanded, referring to the runes she was drawing when he arrived. “Yes, I will. At one condition... I want to be the one who killed Lagertha.” Ivar titled his head to the side and winced, from all the requests he had imagined she could ask when she paused for a few seconds, this one was the most unexpected. “I am the one who will kill her. Lagertha killed my mother.” He hissed bitterly. “And Lagertha is my mother.” Asa said. Her words left Ivar in shook. And before he could even turned his head towards her, she pinned his body on the floor. As the blade of her knife was against his throat, the muscles of his jaw contracted. And when the cool steel pressed to his skin slightly cut him, Ivar felt threatened for the first time in his life. Asa looked straight at him with anger and pain, approaching her face from his to speak again. “Blood must have blood.”
“You didn’t have this cut yesterday, Ivar.” Hvitserk noticed as they both walked in the direction of the hall in the morning. “Well, Brother, I can give you the same one but all over your neck if you say another word about it.” Ivar responded, giving a hypocrite smile to Hvitserk. When they entered Asa was already sitting on her throne, her all body tensed at the view of Ivar. The way they looked at each other and the tension between them were, of course, noticed by everyone. “Let me kill him and get this over with.” Gunvald whispered to Asa who waved her hand to hush him. “What did you do, Ivar?” Harald asked in a low voice when Asa’s men approached and surrounded them. “You knew she was Lagertha’s daughter, didn’t you?” Ivar hissed sorely to Finehair before he glanced up at Asa to hear her answer regarding his proposition. “My army will support you when you will attack Kattegat.” She said after a moment of silence and directly to Ivar, her words fading his anger as he looked away. “Since when do we fight the battle of others?” A man with long dark-blond hair and a 3-day stubble beard asked in the back of the room. All the people in the hall turned to him as he walked towards Asa who didn’t seem to be surprised by his objection. “This is my battle too, Alvgeir. And you know it.” She said with her usual cold tone. “It is your battle only when it suits you.” Alvgeir hissed, making Asa stood up from her throne. “Do not make it personal.” She warned as Ivar, Hvitserk, Harald and Astrid looked at each others; confused by what was going on. “You are the one who make it personal, Queen.” His words were filled with spite and no matter what happened between the two of them, his words were enough for Ivar's anger to resurface. “I thought we sorted this out.” Asa muttered to Alvgeir after she took a few steps to face him. “Maybe we should sort this out for good, Asa. I challenge you to single combat.” He said loud enough for everyone in the hall to hear him clearly. As the reactions followed Alvgeir’s words, Ivar and Gunvald were about to intervene when Asa gestured them to stop.
