Recycling workshop in Bucharest
Hello, I am Krasi Georgieva and I am really glad to join HacKidemia. I am the Plastic Wizard so during my workshop we are going to transform any plastic bottle or wrapper into something beautiful and useful or we are going to learn how to sort out our garbage in the right recycling container.
But why it is so important to recycle? For me I don’t want to leave amongst piles of plastic. I don’t want to breathe polluted air and to drink polluted water. I don’t want this ill fortune for my kids as well. That is why I embrace the idea of green life and I think that eco ideas and technologies are worth spreading. Also I believe that we should present to our children all the advantages and benefits of the green way of living.
And what if we live in a houses build form plastic bottles?
Or sail in boats from plastic bottles?
What if we help collecting materials for greater ideas?
There are so many interactive ways to reuse materials as paper, plastic and metal. In this work shop we are going make boxes for small items, badges, flower pots, all from recycled materials. You can also bring your plastic trash and we can think together of a way to reuse it. And be ready for surprises and awardsJ
Most importantly during this workshop we are going to teach each other how to be super heroes who preserve the planet every day!

The job hunt is on. Today I emailed more companies and attended a Hackers and Founders meetup in Oakland. It was a good experience. There were a lot of people there looking for developers. Unfortunately, most were looking for technical cofounders as opposed to new employees. While being part of an...

Raspberry Pi workshop in Bucharest
Hello! My name is Bobi Rakova and I am very happy and excited to be part of HacKidemia. I’m the electronics Widzard so my workshop is going to be about DIY – Do It Yourself electronics. We’ll start with the basic and in no time we’ll be programing for very tiny computers like Raspberry Pi.
I joined the project during the Singularity University Graduate Studies program this year. I have a Computer Science background and a lot of experience in the field between Software and Hardware. I heart the Maker Movement and I get very inspired every time I have the chance to work with kids!
This coming Saturday we’re going to have a look at the basics of icroelectronics. In a fun and interactive way we’ll discover the building blocks of those tiny computers called microcontrollers. We will see how they work together and how we can use them to create simple prototypes. We will learn together what is: a semiconductor, a diode, a LED, a resistor, a protoboard and how we can use them to switch some little LED lights on and off. We will first draw everything on a piece of paper and then we will experiment on the protoboard, connect the lights in series and in parallel. We will see what is the difference, explain how it works and experiment with other ideas.
We will also add a button and will show how we have to connect the elements on the protoboard so that we can turn the light on only when you keep the button pressed. In the follow up workshops we will build on this and learn more about microcontrollers. We’ll have a close look Raspberry Pi and will learn more about how much better it is than a PC. What is difference and how can we access its input and output pins. This will allow us to control LEDs from the Raspberry Pi by writing very little code. Before writing any code we’ll play with visual prototyping tools that would allow us to connect blocks in the browser and then see LEDs turning on and off on our protoboard. We will go into what is possible and the basics of computer programming for tiny computers.
We are all very excited and inspired to learn from the kids!

First HacKidemia in Paris
In June we organised the first HacKidemia in France at the boarding school of excellence at Marly-le-roy. All the activities took place in the multimedia centre of the Versailles Academy in Marly-le -Roy. We used the unconference format of the event. Kids of 11-13 years old could choose any activity from the eight proposed workshops and move whenver they wanted, no schedhule or duration was imposed to them. I also have to mention that most of the participants were coming from difficult social background and were reluctant initially to attend to "yet another class.Little did they know that behind the doors an entire playground was waiting for them. Our young makers could play for a whole day with intelligent lego, learn how to build robots and program, create an interactive book, dance while playing music on an Arduino carpet...
There was a demo session at the end of the day where evrybody could show what were the results of their workshop if they wanted. Also the youngsters participated in documenting the event by taking pictures and videos and interviewing their friends. By the end of the day everybody had a special light in their eyes being super proud of having made something with their hands and shots like "I made a robot !"will cover the laughters and the unanimous shared enthusiasm. We promised that we will do it again in September when school starts again and all of a sudden our young makers seamed eager to be back to Hackidemia.
If you want to organize a HacKidemia in your own school or town please let us know by filling the following form. We would be happy to help you with that!

Electricity Monsters Contact: underconstruction.jeux @ gmail.com Resources: enough to make dough squichy circuits, battery LED, resistor. Recipe of the dough here is the link Activity: Try your hand at assembling electronic / Principe conductivity / resistance of materials / Introduction of the concept of polarity and resistance Results: Understanding the conductivity concepts and experiments
LearnitLab creation of the book
Contact: druga.stefania [a] gmail.com Resources: books, Stickies, sheets, scissors, http://storybird.com/storymaker Activity: Children will learn how to create a book, organize information, select and place the images. Results: Paper prototypes and multimedia.
Workshop Musical Carpet Contact: @ jules.hotrique dualo.org Resources: a musical carpet innovative integrated to partition Duration: 1 hour Activity: Discovery of the instrument, note and sounds and virtual instruments, composition with a looper. Results: Learn how to play and perceive music in a different way
Awareness workshop via e Arduino Contact: [email protected] Resources: material: map (s) Arduino & some components (watchlist) a media presentation / activity is being created: contact me for more info. Activity: getting started with arduino platform & associated tools to make a very simple little robot. Rub the concepts of electronics and embedded computing (programming etc.). Eventually, make your own card. Workshop OLPC / Sugar: Sugar and discover the environment of OLPC XO computer
Contact: [email protected] Resources: 5 computers XO 1.5 (Sugar Version 0.94) Activity: discovery of XO, Turtle Art, Vikidia Results: creation of Turtle figures with Art, edition of Vikidia
5 XO computers (version 1.5) will be available for workshops: a leader will accompany students in the discovery of the machine, the environment and in particular the activity of "Turtle Art". Students will also use the machine to talk to each other and enrich the content of the online encyclopedia Vikidia (a "wikipedia" for 8-13 years).
Workshop exploring Wikipedia Contact: @ carolann.ohare wikimedia.fr Resources: computers for students (at least 1 per pair), video Activity: discovery of Wikipedia: What is it? how to use it? After a short presentation and discussion on their use of Wikipedia, ideally students will participate in a little exercise "treasure hunt" in the encyclopedia: from an article imposed, students will navigate the different areas Wikipedia to answer some questions to lead to another article taxed. All this without using the search bar of Wikipedia or leaving the site: several paths!
