hey all. i’m gonna make this quick so i’m nearing the end of my two week notice at my job & they severely cut my hours for my last week. literally only working two days when i usually work five. if anyone can throw a little bit of money my way i would really appreciate it. i’m not asking for an exorbitant amount—my bills are paid off but that doesn’t leave enough for grocery shopping. i need just enough to buy food.

the boy mocks her; cold words from cold bones. it's like a sudden gust of air, an unwelcome chill pricks at her skin. but she is ever so curious, especially when it comes to creatures like him, ones who she does not have the words to describe. ada takes a small step back, all the while still observing, taking him apart in her head, trying to figure him out.

"you don't remember me, do you?" she asks calmly, cocking her head to the side. "we've met before."

a groan passes dry lips—ironic, really, given the lake of liquor he's swallowed tonight, a bottle perched against his lips and tipped down, down, down. in a great feet of co-ordination, xeno lifts both arms to cover his head and rolls onto one side, concrete biting into his side. he tries very hard to ignore her, the way her gaze pricks at his skin, an uncomfortable itch. she's looking at you like them. picking you apart.

"i'm not waking up," he whines, a childish refute, "no, no, no. who are you, telling people to wake up, huh? huh? are you the wake up police? are you a cop?"

the motel is always quiet at this hour. ada lies in bed, wide awake, still as a statue, staring up at the ceiling fan. she likes these moments, the silence left for her to digest the day's events. what did we do today? what did we learn? her solitude is short, but sweet, cut short by a sudden urgent knocking at the door. the other woman enters as soon as the door cracks open, without so much as a greeting. ada stares at dee, annoyed under the surface, but refusing to let it show. at least she knocked.

the vessel is a pretty thing, an alluring facade. she's learned that men are the simplest of prey; how easy it is to turn their heads, make their eyes linger, make them follow her into the dark and into the maw of a beast. he gives her a look that she's come to know well, tied off with a wink at the end. the creature doesn't flinch or make so much as a sound—it stares back, stoic as ever, waiting for him to approach on his own.
