It took me a long time, but I finally finished this illustration!!! So much work but so much fun (yeah, I did this just for fun)! This is a Mexican Gothic inspired piece, which is a novel I read recently. I absolutely loved the story and characters. Silvia Moreno-Garcia’s writing is so mesmerizing.(*¯︶¯*) If you’re a gothic fiction fan like me and haven’t read it, do it now!

(Thanks to this book, I may have found my new obsession: fungi (≧∇≦) If you know any fun facts about mushrooms, feel free to drown me with them.)

New self-portrait&calligraphy (for my name). It took me aaaages to figure out what kind of typography I want for my name. I want something that is a mixture of east and west, mature and cute, sophisticated but not too stiff/serious, smooth but still with some sharp edges and weight. Sooooo…This the end result that reflects my duality as an artist. I’m pretty happy with it. And I’m happy that I’m the designer who took my own commission because so that other designers can be spared from the torture of my conflicted and impossible brief. σ(^_^;)

I made another attempt to combine my new hobby (blackletter calligraphy) with my ink drawing practice, and…typo happened (´Д` ) Everyone I give you ‘Eleen’ The Crow ಥ_ಥ (For those who don’t know, it’s Eileen)

Yeah, I did the drawing first then the text. Oh well…

New hobby: I’ve just started learning to write black letters and it’s so much fun! I use a 4.5mm nib which is quite challenging for a beginner but it’s also rather satisfying to write with ( ´ ▽ ` )

Coloured ink & watercolour. A little practicing piece and experiment on colours. It’s very therapeutic to see the pigments mingle ( ´ ▽ ` ) The outline of the character is milk tea colour which I mixed by my self using coloured ink.

Happy Lunar New Year! 新年快樂！Finally, here is my (belated) Year of the Snake illustration for Lunar New Year! I tried to carry on the style in which I made my Year of the Dragon last year. Snake is not a motif I normally use. At some point I thought I might not be able to make it. But now I’m pretty happy with the result. What do you think?

After a fantastic night with my friends on the New Year’s Eve, I woke up and saw the sunshine on my desk like this. What a lovely start of the new year ( ´ ▽ ` )

2024 has been a wild ride for me. I exhibited in three comic cons, went to visit NYCC and Angoulême, gave workshops in German, published three books and painted in watercolours. At the end of 2023, I didn’t really believe I could make any of it, but I did more than I expected.

I made some big decisions at the end of 2023: Be a better boss to myself, and draw things that make me happy. These are on my New Year’s resolutions list and I think I did a pretty decent job(⁎⁍̴̛ᴗ⁍̴̛⁎).

I have made a New Year’s resolutions list for 2025, and I’m looking forward to it.

I wish you all a fantastic new year! And if you’re a creative person or a freelancer like me, don’t forget to write this down on your New Year’s resolutions: Be a good boss to yourself, and always save some time to work on something that makes you happy.
