The rain smells sweet in the province

But my joy is soured

each foot in two worlds

Invisible

I give my tired hands instead

Parched

I trade these pains for nectar

Thicker than water

And take what I can

To feel loved like the rest

Even requited, it is undeniably different

It chips away at my spirit

And I wonder

Will it wear me down

into a piece that finally fits?

Will I feel more gift than curse

When hands reach out

in familiarity?

In place of reluctant obligation?

Or perhaps the Seam

This cross-section of being

is a precious virtue

Chained to the middle,

Urged to escape

Creating a deep need

to balance the scales

And open my eyes wider

In order to see it all

from the inside and out

But more likely

it will always be my prison

Tearing me apart

while I stubbornly reach

through these bars

Unable to stop

despite the hollowing pain

Unsatisfied

until sweet release

Of grasping one or the other

When having both

In this existence

Is having nothing at all
