i.   DRACULA.    cold to the touch.  flickering candles.  cold breath upon your neck.  billowing white gowns.  midnight strolls.  pearl trimmed bands.  indulging in your deepest desires. the fall from grace.  the fear of outsiders.   bloodstained sheets.  dark imaginations.  something lurking in the shadows.  the urge to run away.  glowing eyes in the darkness.  the scent of garlic.  preying on the weak.  the power to both bring and take life.

ii.    THE   PICTURE   OF   DORIAN  GRAY.    old bookshelves. kisses on the hand.  a devotion to the finer things in life.  prizing youth and beauty above all. paying the ultimate price.  the pursuit of pleasure.  blood red sins painted over in white snow.  a drug-induced stupor.  breaking the heart of the one you love. losing what’s left of your humanity.

iii.   FRANKENSTEIN.    frantic sketches.  the stench of something rotten.  unorthodox beliefs.  a scream from the woods.  candles burning out. dangerous knowledge.  contemplating existence.  the crunch of leaves.  the chill of winter in your bones. dark ambitions. prometheus reborn. the contrast between life and death.

iv.   THE   COUNT   OF   MONTE   CRISTO.    false accusations.  taking justice into your own hands. divine justice. elaborate schemes. playing upon others’ weaknesses. the solitude of the ocean.  an ever-changing identity.  dissatisfaction in your life. an alienation from humanity.  escaping from prison.

What about Faunus? Merlot, do you think you would get better results with them if you were to start cross-mutation experiments?

faunus are a bit touchy for him . he would be curious about them of course , and do some studies , but he wouldn’t go as far as any cross - mutation . ironically , he respects the faunus more than humans , because he’s more than willing to experiment on a human , whereas , he has a bit of confliction when it comes to the faunus .edit, moving this out of the tags: if you’re to take my canon divergency , you’ll see that he has a son that’s a faunus , so this definitely plays a hand in his reluctance . he loves oliver more than anything ( yes , that includes grimm ) , and the last thing he wants to do is make his son feel unsafe by messing with his kind

Wasn't Merlot responsible for the mutated Grimm? Would he consider cross-mutating humans and/or animals with Grimm, or would he think it would be possible?

- he was ! his enhancements were the reason the grimm were mutated , given he gave them the serum that made them stronger and more advanced , so we can only imagine what he would’ve done if he kept going: what the grimm would’ve looked like and how they would’ve behaved / functioned .- as for the cross - mutating , i think he would further into his research , if he found that it was possible , which it might be . i feel he’d start with animals first , since grimm are at the base twisted / tainted / corrupted animals . humans , though , may be way further down the line , but he’d absolutely consider it .

because i’ll never shut up, merlot is an interesting ‘villain’ to me, because unlike other villains and antagonists we have in the franchise, merlot isn’t one for the sake of ‘i want to do evil’, he’s got no ulterior motives. he went mad with curiosity and edged into unethical practices, he didn't SEEK the madness for the sake of power or whatnot, he just, got too obsessed and it consumed him, and i love that about him. also like, he is still rather sane, he's just... consumed by his fascination for the grimm, and a lot of ppl just ain't into that even though he’s lowkey valid af. who wouldn’t want to learn more about the creatures that have roamed remnant for the longest time? to him, he's not that obsessed, but to others, he's crazy. to him, he's just curious and needs to know more, has to know more. that's why he'd eagerly join salem, whether that's a good idea or not. considering she’s the self-proclaimed queen of the grimm, i wouldn’t blame him for getting close to her in favor of getting more access to the grimm. he's addicted to knowledge and learning and just understanding the world from another angle, one that not many dare to pursue. and it explains all his experimenting and his wonder if they can evolve and become more than just soulless killing monsters. he’s also managed to achieve not only enhancements but also managed to keep grimm alive in captivity. he made them stronger, faster, and if he hadn’t been stopped, he might have achieved the ability to tame and control the grimm.  he is driven solely by his need to know. he wants the world to bask in his studies because to him, they’re groundbreaking, they’re revolutionary. he wants remnant to see the true glory of the grimm, what they can be. he’s not out to destroy the world, not really, even with all the opposition against him. he just wants the world to see why he regards the grimm so highly, why they’re important to their world.

lowkey might change merlot’s name from ‘isaac’ to ‘charles’ since charles darwin was the scientist behind evolution, which is a field study in biology, whereas isaac is isaac newton, who is more primarily known for physics and the three laws dklfjdklfjdfkdf  tbf, i just settled on the first scientist that i could think of that wasn’t einstein
