oops i did end up doing a little criticism…

i really want to talk about my opinions on DA:TV, but i fear people take my criticisms as me being a hater😭😭

so so SO glad someone is talking about this…

may i also add that when we do get arguments or disagreements, they are either really pointless or solved 2 cut scenes later?

like let’s take this scene with emmrich and taash where they have a little dispute and oh my god?? i’m not even kidding when i say it was one of the most cringe scenes in the game. they’re professionals, huh? okay, then please tell me why these two proceed to argue like toddlers, to which i then have to get in between them and resolve it like i was actually talking to toddlers. i’m sorry, but what? emmrich is in his 60s, why am i treating him like a child? furthermore, this argument contributed NOTHING to the storyline or either of their characters, if anything it made taash look really bad. plus, it’s a situational argument too? like i had no idea these two were at odds with one another because i didn’t have them in my party at the same time. so i was confused when rook was like “i knew this would happen eventually.”

now the argument between two professionals in question was because taash kept calling emmrich “death mage” because he’s a necromancer. emmrich expresses how much he doesn’t like this and doesn’t understand why taash is so mean to him…wow, name calling, so professional. to which taash says “i just don’t like necromancy >:(“ like okay? now, this COULD have been a good start for some tension, but like i said, i didn’t even get to see this tension because the only way you can get it is if you have them in your party at the same time…maybe if taash talked about something other than their one note personality trait (dragons) and maybe showed fear towards death in general, i could see their side of the “argument.” but gods forbid their be any tension in this game because it would disrupt the “found familyTM” thing (which found families fight btw has no one ever played the witcher??). plus, having a fear towards necromancy IS A VALID ONE. like if i wasn’t a mage and i was thrown in this crew with a guy who raised the dead, id be fucking terrified of him regardless of how much i vibe with emmrich…that was easy tension and conflict PRACTICALLY HANDED TO THE WRITERS AND THEY FLOPPED. so the scene just ended up feeling super abrupt and pointless. this was energy put towards a stupid conflict that could’ve been put towards REAL TENSION like with davrin and lucanis, but oh wait…that conflict was resolved three cut scenes later and i didn’t even get to see it.

Something something the reason the factions don't work in Veilguard even though they're functionally equivalent to the groups of people you have treaties with in DAO is because the factions are treated like A Job rather than A Culture

what i do wanna talk about actually is how much i appreciated bellara being good ADHD/OCD rep. i have that unfortunate combo and felt she represented it relatively well. she did fall into the “cutesy girl with ADHD🥰🥰” stereotype a lil bit, but the way she fixates on her guilt, the way she talks to herself/about herself and constantly apologizes for her rambling really makes up for that because that’s apart of the struggle.

6 months later, i now have 12 tattoos total and this one will forever be my all time fav

me, unfortunately:

i FINALLY got the dragon age tattoo i’ve been talking about for awhile.

i went with isabela’s dagger (the heartbreaker) with some elf root wrapped around it (shout out to my tattoo artist who brought the design to life!)

i have about 6 tattoos, most of which are from video games, but are of games that mean a lot to me and have had a very significant impact on my life in some way, shape or form.

dragon age, despite its flaws, does mean a lot to me because it was games like these that make me passionate about screenwriting and storytelling. when i played this game for the first time, it really just opened my eyes to whole new type of story telling in a fantasy setting that i just really vibed with. not only that, the game is extremely nostalgic for me as well as got me through a very difficult time in my life (much like skyrim did…which i also have a tattoo for).

as for isabela, again despite her flaws, she’s a character that i love and heavily relate to in various different ways. (i would have also loved to get a morrigan tattoo, but unfortunately, she doesn’t really have an iconic weapon like isabela does because her staffs from DA:O are just retextures/remodels of the same staff).

anywho, i love isabela as a character and just really understand her fears and anxieties, because they once reflected my own. during the events of da2, she overcomes her fears when she realizes that she doesn’t need to run anymore when she finds her found family, and this was something i so desperately wanted in life and now finally have.

so i look at this tattoo that not only represents my love for dragon age and isabela, but also my own growth as a person.

one detail about neve i haven't seen being mentioned yet is that she subconsciously hums cida ciconia's songs to herself and she gets a little annoyed that she's doing it.

Neve Gallus may be emotionally constipated and would most likely throw up or run away when trying to tell Rook that she loves them for the first time but you cannot tell me that Neve Gallus is not a romantic. Sure, she doesn’t believe in happy endings or fairy tales (although Rook is slowly getting her to believe in letting another person in emotionally again) but the detective is definitely romantic. I’m talking about flowers, dates (where she drags Rook along with her to solve cases or beat up some Venatori because that’s her version of romance if we’re being for real), and having some of Hal’s fish while skipping rocks in the water. Her hands slowly curling over Rook’s own while guiding them on how to perfectly skip the rocks. (Neve doesn’t point out after the fifth time of having to coach Rook’s hands into how to hold the rocks that she knows Rook is pretending to be clueless on purpose just so Neve would touch them. Later, she leans in and whispers into Rook’s ear that there are easier ways to get her to touch them than acting helpless when it comes to some rocks.)
