This quiet little place is increasingly competing with Queenstown as the adrenalin capital of the south, but still offers a very relaxed and peaceful atmosphere.
Because the landscape, the climate and the people between Nelson, Motueka, Kaiteriteri and the National Park is like home to us.
At the age of 16 I was allowed to do an Au-Pair year in Geneva - and also to learn one of our national languages.
The landscape is vast and you can watch seals and penguins. A particularly famous photo motif along The Catlins is Nugget Point. The scent of wild herbs mixes with that of lavender, which grows here one and a half times. Via Church Road I turn towards Wanaka, after about Cyclone Cook ruined our week in Queenstown thoroughly! Even if it was only foothills, it brought a lot of rain and dull weather. But we could still catch some light moods, but this could not comfort us about the lost motives in Glenorchy. After we had already experienced the Milford Sound in beautiful weather, we spent two more nights directly in the Sound. The fjord presented itself rainy now, but was not less fascinating! Queenstown is the most famous winter sports resort in New Zealand and offers a countless variety of entertainment. A boat trip on the lake, winter sports, but also adrenalin junkies get their money's worth with bungee jumping or speedboat tours. The Remarkables, a mountain range that frames Queenstown, is not the only location that you will recognize from the movies "The Lord of the Rings".
