Scarborough Businesses Need To Get On Pokemon Go
Pokemon Go has hit Scarborough and Whitby
Pokemon Go has overwhelmed even its developers by the rate of attention that it has been getting. The mobile app released by Nintendo in the UK this week uses augmented reality and a location-based search for its gameplay.
The game is an absolute cracker where you have to “collect, compete and discover” endlessly. People actually have to leave their houses in Scarborough to “catch Pokémon” and with the summer holidays coming up, it could be the ideal free children activity for all parents.
Many experts believe that Pokemon Go is here to stay and people are going to continue looking for these imaginative creatures for a substantial amount of time. If you are a business owner in Scarborough and Whitby, then you can take advantage of the increasing attention and love that has been bestowed to the game. The opportunity for local businesses to take advantage is huge. From Scarborough Castle to the popular Homebird House in the old town, to the Amusements on the sea front, everybody who has a physical location should read this blog and take advantage.
Here are a few tactics you could employ that could change how people look at your property:
The PokeStops and the Gyms near your business:
A Pokestop is one of the two fixed locations within the game. It is a place in your vicinity and it can be any historic building, church, museum, bar or even a hotel for that matter. These spots are important because people can often find supplies such as potions, eggs and PokeBalls here which  are essential to trainers on the game.
The second fixed location is known as a gym. It’s far more interesting than a PokeStop because people can actually battle here and grab ownership rights of the gym for their team. Know that if you can attract players to come to your hotel to find its PokeStops or gyms, you could generate serious incomings.
Entice people to come (Lure modules):
If you have played the game, you already know what a lure module is. It’s an item that can be used to get Pokemon to come to you. You can buy them from the “in-app purchases) to attract Pokemon to your hotel. If your business happens to be near any PokeStop you can even host a lure party and people will definitely not miss out on that. Lures remain active for around 30 minutes and you can use many of them in conjunction to create a longer period of lures. Try and activate at peak times of your day.Update: The lure modules works! We have been testing the app now for a month, walking around Scarborough and planting lure modules at random Poke Stops. You can see the people attract to them, (All players of the game will see a special Pokestop signal on the game when a lure module is activated). If your business, (Retro 36 we’re talking to you here) is a PokeStop, you should be taking full advantage of this.
A Poke-gym battle tournament:
A gym battle tournament can also be organized if your property is closer to a gym than it’s to a PokeStop. People love to flaunt their game battling skills and it’s a great way to incentivize them to come in and show “what they got”. Update: We have been testing the app out over the last month. Unlike PokeStops, you need to stay close by the gym to battle here. The app won’t let you battle at a gym unless you are right outside the location. If you’re lucky enough to have your property next to a gym, then think of ways you can get Pokemon players to battle whilst at your hotel or bar.
  Pokemon social sharing:
There is another way you can attract people to come into your business. You can start a scheme whereby if a person uploads a picture of a Pokémon within your property, they get a discount. If people were to share a picture of a rare Pokemon for example, that can lead to other people drooling for them and then coming to your property the next day to find it themselves. At The Grainary, we are running a FREE Drink competition over the summer to entice the new Pokemon players. We will post our results over the coming weeks.
A Pokemon Friendly property:
Pokemon is literally everywhere right now and if at this time, you get a label “Pokemon-Friendly” and you paste it on top of your hotel name board then you can gain serious traction and possibly even some media coverage. If you can send out some press releases about how “friendly” you are when it comes to Pokemon, people are going to start hanging out at your place more. Why? Because well, they love what you love too. If you implement some of the ideas mentioned above or get creative yourself to show how actually Pokemon-friendly you are, then people are going to love your place even more.
The opportunity is there and the hype is expected to only grow bigger. It’s also suggested that you download the app yourself to grab a better understanding and know-how of the game. It’s Free and is fun. We recently took the game out and around Scarborough, there are so many places that won’t even know it’s a Poke Stop or near a Gym.
We would love to hear how you are embracing Pokemon Go. Comment below or get in touch on Twitter @grainary

ALPAMARE WATERPARK: EUROPEAN HIT IN SCARBOROUGH!
The Grainary is really excited to share some big news with you all. This summer a brand new family attractions comes to Scarborough. It promises to be a big deal and already it’s making waves, (sorry) in the local area. We were kindly invited to a launch night at The Grand Hotel recently, where the team at Alpamare introduced what their new water park is all about, and also to announce an exclusive offer for all hospitality owners in the local area. Below is all you need to know….
Alpamare are proud to announce that now you can enjoy one of the most luxurious water parks right on the Yorkshire Coast!
Planning a trip to Scarborough this summer? Hurry up – soon you’ll have to plead for vacant rooms in nearby hotels and popular Farm Stay Guesthouses =). If you think it’s going to be just several cold outdoor swimming pools, think again. As it’s been specially designed by one of the most well-known water park manufacturers and water park planners in all of Europe.
They devised a whole family recreational centre covering all your needs. Its unique trick is the winning combination of the time-proved hydro-thermal British traditions with safety-proved European water parks. “Alpamare” means the “Alps” meets the “mare”, (the sea) and here you can see the steep slides going higher than the highest mountains clashing with the waves of the best wave pools offered in the area.
It’s a perfect place both for family gathering and for a pack of friends longing for new experience and fun! The place is diverse and anyone can find something to his taste.
Thrill-seekers will be fascinated by local water slides. Their top choices will definitely be:
The “Black Run” – steepest and fastest with 11 metres’ drop, the type of “dare if you can”;
youtube
The “Cresta Run” – named after the well-known Cresta run in St Moritz and imitating a black ski run (on a racing mat, head first);
Less extreme but not less challenging are:
The “Olympic Run” – family choice, the longest one (on a double inflatable);
The “Snow storm”– mix of twists and turns running into a pool (on a four people inflatable)
After a head-spinning slide you may refresh in one of two outdoor pools both heated for your comfort:
Outdoor family pool
Outdoor pool with massage jets and whirlpool-attractions facing the picturesque North Bay.
In the case of bad British weather, you can step into the welcoming waters of a 480sqm indoor wave pool.
The cherry on top is Spa area, (Coming Winter 2016) keeping up with best British traditions presented in wellness centre. It’s comprised of sauna, steam baths and it offers various treatments to utmost leisure and relaxation of the guests.
Such an action-packed day will definitely boost your hunger. You can easily satisfy it in an amazing restaurant with a terrace boasting to serve the delicious Alpine meals.
The opening times are scheduled to your convenience from 10 am till 10 pm from Monday through Saturday and from 10 am till 9 pm on Sunday. The entry fees are
The fees are as follows
Adult entrance fee £19
Child ticket £15
Under 5’s FREE
Family, (2 Adults and 2 Children) £60
We know that the launch prices for the new water park have caused a bit of controversy with the locals, all you need to do is check out their Facebook page
So far, we have not really aired our opinion on the matter. However, we would like to add that if you compare the cost of entering Alpamare’s Waterpark to a trip to the Sea Life Centre, (£18 for an adult ticket, or children over the age of 3) or Flamingo Land, ( £37 for one Adult and Child, or £116 for aa family of four) we do encourage that you put this into perspective before commenting on the cost of a brand new attraction that is being brought to the town.
From the chat that we had with the people in charge of Alpamare, we were impressed with their knowledge in the industry and are confident this is going to be a big success.
Dr Anton Hoefter, Alpamare Chief Executive Officer said:
“We’re delighted with our new map, which we will be using to create excitement locally and throughout the region ahead of our opening next month. To date, people have only been able to see pictures of a construction site or architects drawings, so we’re hoping that this map will allow people to truly see what a wonderful world class attraction we have created here on the Yorkshire coast.
“We are currently finalising our website in anticipation of a launch later this month, which will feature an interactive version of the map, alongside all the crucial information waterpark fans, will need to help them plan a visit to Alpamare Scarborough.”
The Alpamare company tried to envisage everything. Being a renowned provider of the safest, hygienic and environmentally-friendly services it guarantees such security level that all area except for water-slides is proved impeccable for disabled people as well.
All you have left is just to get dressed, grab your children and venture for a wonderful day-off in the Alpamare water park. And they will cater for everything else.
Alpamare anticipates that the first customers will be able to enter their water park for the end of July.
And now for the best news.
All Grainary guests will receive a 10% discount when entering the park! This is exclusive to all hospitality owners in the area, which we’re really excited about. We will be receiving our very own vouchers when the park opens, which will be available to take and redeem. To check on availability in The Grainary’s guesthouse or holiday cottages, click here

Getting to know a local Scarborough Business
LOW MOOR COTTAGES
As per Nick Cave there are two things that revolutionize life: moving to the countryside and falling in love. You can succeed in both by choosing the right place. It is generally believed that there is no place like home. But I wouldn’t bet my bottom pound on that having such place as “Low Moore Holiday Cottages”.
Tired of inhaling poisonous smog of the big city and half deaf of its bustling noise? Pay it back and spend some time amid peace & quiet pierced only by bird songs! The owners of this heaven, Mrs Paula Penny and her husband David have acquired this property 17 years ago as a farm with traditional outbuildings and 10 acres of land. Since then the only thing which remained unchanged has been the name of the place – “Low Moor”. It was agreed that it would be a bad luck to change it. And that was the only case they relied to fate. All the rest was done with their hands and thought up to future visitors’ utmost comfort. Oliver decided to convert barns into the holiday lets. Left by themselves they could end up as an ordinary place for short stays of accidental travelers. But in caring hands of diligent proprietors this place has become a gem in the Yorkshire Coast countryside.
The owners occupy a farmhouse which makes their customer service efficient, fast and unobtrusive. The place represents a complex of 5 self-catering authentic cottages amid a picturesque countryside. They are unique as every cottage is designed for maximum privacy having its own enclosed garden with s summerhouse overlooking sheep fields. All cottages are fully equipped both inside and outside. Thus, the owners provide it all including patio furniture and under floor heating. Stables for horses were totally replaced by the secure storage for bikes and ample parking.
Here you can choose any cottage as per number of guests or your personal taste. Thus, you can honor with your stay either the biggest Stable cottage designed for two families and boasting 4 spacious bedrooms. Or you can go to the smallest romantic retreat in this complex – The Old Dairy – just for the two of you. But as Friedrich Schiller said: “There is room in the smallest cottage for a happy loving pair” and this compact but cozy place will definitely add some charm to your wonderful relations.
All five cottages are maintained according to high standards. So it’s no surprise that “Visit Britain” has awarded this place 100% for cleanliness. The owners also keep on renovating the place even more. 2016 is a big year on the farm, as they’re planning to re-furniture kitchens, add bigger TVs and improve their Wi-fi.
All cottages are available all year round including New Year and Christmas which gives you a chance to organize a spontaneous holiday for your beloved one. But be quick as the best improvisation is the one which has been meticulously planned. This property has been already highly appreciated and thus recommended to guests’ friends from all over the world. So it’s rather difficult to book any cottage on the spot. Visitors from Canada, South Africa, Australia, Dubai, Jamaica, New Zealand, Singapore, China and Japan have all discovered and loved Low Moor Cottages. The overseas travelers are totally fascinated with Harwood Dale and the surrounding villages
No wonder as when it goes about location it’s recognized as absolutely unbeatable for exploring attractions nearby. Only 3 miles away there is Scarborough with its twin bays, Scarborough castle and The Open-Air Theater. Mountain bikers will be crazy about Dalby Forest with its tracks and the visitor’s centre always at hand with lots of events all year round.
There is a fishing town Filey with long, clean beach and one spellbinding attraction: the rock finger of the Briggs pointing into the North Sea.
There is also Bridlington – a seaside resort and Whitby – the home of Capitan Cook and Dracula with ruined abbey in it.
If you’re still not convinced all the cottages are in the North York Moors National Park and you can take an excursion to Roman Road known as Aidensfield and feel like a real conqueror of a new land that can offer you such an unprecedented combination of being isolated and finding yourself in the centre of action at the same time.
To book your unforgettable stay you can either visit their website www.lowmoorcottages.co.uk. If you’re a Twitter fan, you can follow Paula and her fantastic tweets @LowMoorCottages

Getting to know a local business: Hidden Horizons
It’s your third date and you’re scratching your head over impressing the girl of your life? Or you’ve got a pack of kids turning into TV and gadget zombies? Or you’re a school teacher struggling for your schoolchildren’s attention in the history class?
Enter Hidden Horizons! Grab your girlfriend’s or kids’ hands, down with roses, gadgets and books and take them out for a walk. Seems unequal bargain? Wait and see until you meet “The Hidden Horizons” team. For having the best time of your life you shouldn’t sigh up the Eiffel Tower, climb the Everest or go to the Disneyland. The North York Moore Coastline and the National Park absolutely will do. Sounds familiar and boring? You can’t imagine what else you could do there except for staring at the sea and counting the trees? If yes, you are far behind the age. As The North York Moore Coastline is now explored in the most unusual way. The company that presents this innovative method is “The Hidden Horizons”. The title of the company is symbolic and precisely hits the mark: this is exactly what they do: reveal the hidden horizons, helping people to see the area in a whole new light and become Yorkshire Coast explorers.
Founded in 2013 by a professional paleontologist and geologist Will Watts it managed to come up with an offer which stands out from the competitors. His enthusiasm was so inspiring that soon his team consisted of co-thinkers, including ecologists, archaeologists, and astronomers. Their main goal was to turn an ordinary purposeless roaming the surroundings into an amusing adventure full of new sensations. Whoever you are: an underage kid, a self-confident teenager or an enthusiastic kidult, you will get a very different view of this coastline and National Park, from the 180 million-year-old rocks and fossils, to the animals that call it home today to the stars above your heads.
They’ve meticulously hatched a totally unbeatable program for you. Their top choices are dinosaur footprint walks and fossil hunting trips that will make you plunge deep into the pre-historic times. Beware of thrilling stories of the guides – they will turn images of lead characters of Jurassic Park into life-like portraits that can give the creeps to anyone! You can invite your friends to share this trip together as they provide group excursions as well, both for children and adults. For more sensitive creatures they can offer quite peaceful mini-beast hunts where you can admire the variety of butterflies, for example, among ancient trees of the National Park. Among landscape excursions, kids are enthused by a rock-pooling one. As it’s the one where you can you happily pick up hermit crabs, worm egg sacks and explore rock pools without being punished or stopped. One of the most breathtaking walks is an astronomy trip where you can impress either your beloved one or your kids by analyzing with the guides the myriads of stars and constellations twinkling in the evening sky. They can also animate any birthday party, no matter outdoor or indoor, by making a tailor-made program, especially for a birthday child. Among their offers, there is a heritage consultancy when their expertise is provided at your total disposal. No needs to say it can be a great option no matter whether you are a loving partner, caring father or just a teacher covering dinosaurs in class. You can be absolutely sure that such open-air event will stay in your memory forever.
Christopher McCandless once said that there is no greater joy than to have an endlessly changing horizon and now you can’t but agree that it’s hard to find another expert in this field than the company entitled “The Hidden Horizons”.
They are entrusted with a partnership of the National Park and Welcome to Yorkshire and with their multiple customers including those coming as far as from the USA and Australia.
To join the league of their fans and catch up with their latest events, you can follow Hidden Horizons on their social media channels

Getting to know: Baytown Coffee Company
COFFEOLOGY BY THE BAYTOWN COFFEE COMPANY
I’m tall, dark and fantastic in the morning. There is no chance you don’t know me. If we start your day together no one gets hurt. I’m your cup of coffee, dear, and if properly made I can save the world.
Preparing coffee reminds cooking the infamous fugu fish: the slightest mistake turns an amazing drink into a bitter poison. All the more reason is relying on professionals. And “The Baytown Coffee Company” is the smartest choice in this case.
It embodies its own product – a strong blend of young vigorous minds of four friends with about 75 years of David’s grandfather’s expertise deep inside it. Being the co-founder of HR Higgins (Coffee-man) Ltd he was honored to supply coffee to the Queen. Whatever your preferences are you can hardly distrust the quality of products approved by Her Majesty.
Thus in 2014 David, Joseph, Gavin and Nick joined together at the Yorkshire coast to make sure they’re establishing a coffee company which would be neither pretentious nor smug. That’s how “The Baytown Coffee Company” was born. Baytown is the old name for Robin Hood’s Bay, a place with which the company has strong connections. Each type of the coffee is named after an iconic part of the Bay.
The company’s aim was to remind people that the greatest thing about coffee is coffee itself. To succeed you must treat it as a woman: if you take it for granted, you’ll get zero feedback. But entertain it and it will reward you with the wide range of sensations. Here is what their assortment is about.
Even if coffee is not your cup of tea you can’t help but admiring carefully selected specialties customized by these fanatics to tempt you.
Your palate will bless you after tasting these cherry and chocolate, citrus, vanilla, nut and even blackberry flavours. You can have your coffee medium or deeply roasted. You can have it brewed by filtering. If after reading it you feel like decaffeinated pariah you will be very much welcomed back to a coffee community by Ness Point – a special decaf delight with a deep mellow flavour.
You will appreciate the company even more having discovered that they took the trouble to screen growers and importers and present you the best ones. Every bean in your cup can be traced back to its producer and traced forth through all the supply chain to make sure it is of really top quality.
Being coffee maniacs themselves they control all the process of its creation. Similar to Indians they adore a cow as that’s who lends a rich creamy taste of its milk to their lattes. They haven’t turned into farmers yet but the fact they’re thinking about it is one more their plus point.
To top it all they roast weekly to ensure you get your coffee the freshest possible!
As you can see they’re highly determined to tempt you and the only way you can avoid temptation is to indulge in it. And you’d bet it’s really worthwhile!
They are sure that life is too short for bad coffee so their motto is
“Do staff that matters”. And they really count on you to taste and appreciate it!
If you were to order a mug of coffee at The Grainary Tea Rooms, you would be drinking one of Baytown’s blends, (Boggle Hole). If you were to walk into our Farm Shop, you would see that you can purchase their other blends, (Ness Point, Albion Street and the Bolts) and take them home with you. The Grainary is proud to work with Baytown Coffee Company, and we are even prouder to say we were one of the first businesses to bring them to the town of Scarborough. Getting to know our Grainaryites, this week – Angie Hobden
Woah! we have been inundated with our Grainaryites who would like to take part in our interview. When our email pinged last week and we had a completed form by Angie, we were frilled! Angie and her family have become firm Grainaryite VIP’s over the last few years. Sam, Mia and Jay always bring a smile to our faces when they are up on the farm.
So, sit back, grab a cup of coffee, (Baytown, obviously) and read the latest, “Getting to know our Grainaryites blog”.
Grainary: Hello Angie, please tell the world a little bit more about yourself.
Angie: I was born in a little village called Shepshed near Leicester and moved to wonderful Yorkshire aged 10. I used to work in retail but now I work with young people aged 16-19 in a Further Education College. I love working with young people and seeing them gain confidence and follow their dreams, being it going to university, gaining a job they love or going off to travel the world.
Grainary: Apart from The Grainary, where else have you visited over the last few years.
Angie: I have had several holidays in Florida where I love the whole Disney and Universal experience but also the quieter beaches and all the wildlife. I’ve seen wild dolphins, manatees and tiny turtles making their way to the huge ocean.
More recently I have visited Australia where my daughter now lives and works. Australia is a beautiful and diverse country, stunning beaches, rainforests, the outback, the Great Barrier Reef, The Blue Mountains, Cairns in the Tropical North and wonderful city like Brisbane and Sydney. The places I have visited so far are very laid back, very clean and everyone seems to love spending time outside and children are encouraged to do this from a very young age.
Grainary: What are your favourite foods?
Angie: Unfortunately, my favourite food usually involves anything sweet and unhealthy…….I also love pulled pork, chicken and a good old full English.
Grainary: What is your favourite farm animal?
Angie: I love this time of year and all the lambs skipping about and having fun in the sunshine – if we ever get any! And of course you can’t ignore the hard working and super friendly farm dogs at The Grainary and how they love a walk down to the lake, trying to grab the food meant for the ducks. They never seem to run out of energy!!
Grainary: Why do you follow The Grainary on Facebook?
Angie: I follow the Grainary as it keeps me in touch with all the exciting plans and day to day things which go on. It makes me feel closer to my next visit and look forward to it even more.
Grainary: Why do you love coming to The Grainary?
Angie: I love The Grainary for the friendliness and the way you immediately feel relaxed the minute you get there.
Grainary: What would you do to improve The Grainary?
Angie: There is very little you could improve on at The Grainary, but maybe some more chairs and tables near the pond, in the play area and down near the lake as The Grainary is getting busier and more popular. The playroom is a great addition and we used it loads last year as we had a very rainy day, you could maybe add some more to it and again some more chairs.
Thank you very much to Angie for taking the time out to help with the interview, if you would like to take part, fill in the form below

Where should you Eat, Sleep and Explore in Scarborough this summer
Great Reasons to Holiday in Scarborough
Are you going to Scarborough Fair?… Although the town now only honors this age-old tradition by hosting a fairground in September , the seaside town has long been a great place to holiday and it’s easy to see why. Located on the north east coast of England in Yorkshire, it has been a popular beach resort since the 1700’s, and truly became a hotspot to visit with the introduction of railway to the town in the late 1800’s. And it’s still a great place to visit today, with 2 sandy beaches in the north and south end of the town and a whole host of activities and entertainment to enjoy.
Whether strolling along the sandy beaches or the promenade, eating a stick of rock, trying some local fish and chips or experiencing any of the numerous local attractions that call your attention, there is definitely something for everyone. Here are just some of the reasons why Scarborough is a great place to holiday:
Historical Attractions in Scarborough Town
The history of the town dates back 3000 years, from the Iron Age, to the arrival of the Romans, to the First World War and beyond. And there are plenty of historical attractions to visit where you can learn about Scarborough’s varied history.
Scarborough Castle hosts stunning views of the Yorkshire Coastline, where you can stop to take in both the North and South Bays of the town from the Master Gunners house. Whether you visit the ruins of the Roman signal tower or just relax in the grounds, it’s the perfect place to spend a sunny afternoon!
St Mary’s Church is also worth a visit. Aside from being the famous burial place of Anne Bronte in 1849, it originally dates back to the 12th Century and has been rebuilt many times, making it an important piece of Scarborough’s history.
Scarborough Spa is Grade II listed building, which hosts live music entertainment and exhibitions. Located on Scarborough’s spa waters, it seats 2000 people and is well worth visiting to watch a live performance if you get the chance. However in itself, the beautiful Victorian architecture makes it more than worthwhile visiting just to taking a look.
The Grand Hotel has been a famous Scarborough landmark for 150 years and once used to be the biggest hotel in Europe. Visiting the hotel can again give you a sense of Scarborough’s history, in taking a look at the unique architecture, the grandeur of the ballrooms or enjoying a meal or afternoon tea at the hotel restaurant, while enjoying the seaside views.
The Central Tramway Company is the oldest tramway system left in the UK. Trams run from the north side of the town at the Marine Parade to the South Bay, and offer a unique way to see the town, as well as a look into the town’s past.
Scarborough Outdoors
There are  a number of ways to enjoy the outdoors at Scarborough, other than walking along the beautiful sandy beaches and enjoying the ocean views of course! You can go horseriding on the beach, rent bikes or take a biking tour along the coast. Surfing, wind sailing and kitesailing are also popular activities in the area.
From Scarborough Castle to the popular Homebird House in the old town, to the Amusments on the sea front, everybody who has a physical location should read this blog and take advantage.
Try and activate at peak times of your day, at The Grainary, we are planning on doing so between 1pm and 3pm at weekends, for example.
A gym battle tournament:
A gym battle tournament can also be organized if your property is closer to a gym than it’s to a PokeStop. People love to flaunt their game battling skills and it’s a great way to incentivize them to come in and show “what they got”.
Pokemon are literally everywhere right now and if at this time, you get a label “Pokemon-Friendly” and you paste it on top of your hotel name board then you can gain serious traction and possibly even some media coverage.

Getting to know First Light Trust
Getting to Know: First Light Trust Company
As you have probably seen on our blog, we only present you businesses and companies that want to make a positive impact on the world. Lately, we have got in touch with Dorinda Wolfe Murray, founder of the award-winning Independent Gardening Ltd, and supporter of First Light Trust Company.
Having been raised in a military family, Dorinda understands the terrible effects PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder) has on individuals’ lives. Thus, not only does she manage a therapeutic garden to help people recover from mental health problems but she also guides veterans towards integrating themselves into the civilian life again.
There are many other supporters of First Light Trust, and each of them wants to make the world a better place. Together, they came up with an inspiring and expressive name for this company. As Dorinda says, First Light Trust refers to the light we see in the morning which lets us know that we have succeeded in surviving another night. “Seeing the sun rise along any of the beautiful Yorkshire coastlines is a magical moment,” she adds, “It’s particularly poignant, given our name.”
The name addresses especially to former soldiers, sailors, and air force veterans. When they come back from war, they almost immediately get lost in the abundance of the community and don’t know what to do or where to go. Given the amount of time they spent away from the society, they no longer feel like they belong anywhere. So they develop a sense of worthlessness, which usually leads to only one “solution” – suicide.
First Light Trust has been here ever since 2012 to solve these problems by helping them to regain their life purpose and self-value. Just like Dorinda Murray, all the other supporters come from military families or are veterans themselves. Therefore, the former soldiers who seek help will never feel alone in the First Light Trust community.
The Company is able to offer all this help through donations. People from all over the world can donate as little or as much as they want, and the supporters will take care of the rest. But it’s not all about the money. There are other ways people can support this honorable cause.
First Light Trust also runs two charity shops in Scarborough and Redcar, along with a cozy café in Scarborough. If they want, people can donate bargains to the two shops, such as books, clothes, perfumes, toys, and so on. Other people will buy them, and the money will go towards helping the veterans. They can also choose to volunteer and influence the work at the company or even to get a paid position in one of the stores.
Dorinda says that the company has received donations from remote locations, such as the USA and beyond. Plus, they have welcomed visitors to their stores from many European states, including the UK.
For First Light Trust, 2016 is going to be a productive year, full of amazing opportunities and projects to help former soldiers all over the UK. The company’s café, which is known as Sharpe’s Café, will allow them to become “fully-fledged bakers and baristas”, by receiving free training, as Dorinda says. At the same time, other former soldiers will have the chance to launch Elite Battalion Fitness Training or to get ready for the fishmonger training.
To check out their 2016 events, go to events
As you can see, First Light Trust offers veterans a wide range of options to integrate themselves back into our society after having fought for us. If you know any UK veteran who is going through a hard time in his life, do not hesitate to contact Dorinda Murray or any other supporter of this Armed Forces charity company.

The “Black Run” – steepest and fastest with 11 metres’ drop, the type of “dare if you can”;
The “Cresta Run” – named after the well-known Cresta run in St Moritz and imitating a black ski run (on a racing mat, head first);
Less extreme but not less challenging are:
The “Olympic Run” – family choice, the longest one (on a double inflatable);
However, we would like to add that if you compare the cost of entering Alpamare’s Waterpark to a trip to the Sea Life Centre, (£30 for an adult ticket, £18 for a child ticket) or Flamingo Land, ( £37 for one Adult and Child, or £116 for aa family of four) we do encourage that you put this into perspective before commenting on the cost of a brand new attraction that is being brought to the town.

The owners of this heaven, Mrs Paula Penny and her husband Oliver have acquired this property 17 years ago as a farm with traditional outbuildings and 10 acres of land.
To book your unforgettable stay you can either visit their website http://ift.tt/1VRU2iV. If you’re a Twitter fan, you can follow Paula and her fantastic tweets @LowMoorCottages
