I think one of the reasons drag kings aren’t as popular as drag queens, aside from the fact that straight women don’t like us, is that people are uncomfortable acknowledging masculinity as a performance. Like we as a society know that femininity is a performance, with its own costumes and rules. Masculinity is also a performance, and nothing makes that more clear than someone making an exaggeration of it

#the way people talk abt drag kings pisses me off so much #who gives a fuck if its visually interesting its a PERFORMANCE ART #oh my god people police drag aesthetics so hard and im actually done with it #i dont care if a queen or king looks busted or whatever #what are they bringing to the table #can they entertain the crowd #are they funny are they bringing something unique that i havent seen before #everyone can do a mediocre lipsync to a pop song #but every time i see a drag king im seeing something with immense amounts of creative energy put in #go to more alternative and small drag events #im tired of the mainstream perception of drag when there is SO much #and there are so many awesome performers that are performing in tiny pubs and weird small queer venues #not to mention drag is actually such a male dominated field and people HATE HATE HATE when women are involved in any way #the misogyny in the drag scene is INSANE
