hi i just want you to know I'm OBSESSED with all ur Abra hcs and u mentioned u were writing a fic,,,, if that happened can i have the linkk i would LOVE to read it <3
i saw that you already saw it (thank you btw) but here's the link in case anyone else wanted it
not to derail this ask into a post i've been meaning to make for a while. i have a good chunk of the next chapter finished, but i've been sitting on it for almost a year. there are a few reasons for that. but the big reason was that, even though i tried to do as much research as i could (although i always could have done more like hired beta/sensitivity readers and such), with the rampant violence and injustice happening towards palestinians, i didn't know if it would still be appropriate for me to write about palestinian muslim characters without doing something more substantial.
but thank you for enjoying my content <3 i do like abra (and what she could have represented).
some links in case anyone wants them (i considered adding them to the fic, but you're not supposed to link to donation posts on ao3 iirc)
https://decolonizepalestine.com/
carrd with more palestine info + donation links
https://www.shoppalestine.org/
this post lists a lot of palestinian-owned businesses (and in the notes you can find palestinian business owners boosting themselves)
(tw for gun violence and child death) this post contains important information, and donation links. there are even videos you can watch instead, if you aren't able to donate directly.

she wears a niqab that’s the same color as the walls so she can blend into her surroundings and take her enemies down by surprise
thinking about abra showing up during paintball and teaming up with abed
#her outfit becomes more and more elaborate as the game goes on#by the end there's just this walking stack of desks chasing after people#abra

How do we feel about Professor Cligoris/Professor Sean Garrity as a ship?

no omg keep talking about it!! im telugu, so if abed was telugu i would have freaked! they should have put more effort in to create actual rep for Palestinian/arab people, it's really not difficult
seriously, that would have been really cool. idk if they planned on abed being half polish before danny was on board, but the fact that he was able to bring his own background into the role makes it feel way more authentic.
anyway, i’m totally on board with what you’re saying. danny is such a good actor and the show wouldn’t be the same without him, so they should have just written the character around him imo

i really don't know why communjty didn't either (a) make abed telugu polish like danny pudi or (b) hire ONE SINGLE PERSON who knows Arabic. i know like four. dan harmon what the fuck.
ikr?
i’ve seen a lot of comments from polish speakers talking about how cool it was to see a character speak polish (accurately) in a mainstream sitcom. what if arabic speakers got to experience that too?
like, imagine if abed’s palestinian background or his islamic background were written with the same level of care as his autism. imagine if his characterization could have the same effect on arabic and/or muslim viewers as he had on many autistic and other neurodivergent viewers. i can only speak for myself, but one of the many rewarding things about abed’s character has been being able to recognize my own behaviors in him.
look at this super long post that lists abed’s autistic traits. what if there was an equally long post that listed all of the little details about abed’s palestinian background or him being a muslim? the little details that only a writer who has an intimate knowledge of those worlds would think to add.
anyway, this post goes deeper into into the use of arabic in the show, so i’ll stop here. sorry this got long. i’ve been doing some research on this sort of thing so i had these thoughts bubbling up inside for a while.
