Day 30: Canon Divergence AU

If the day ever comes when Gendry would rather wield a sword than forge one, send him to me. He has the look of a warrior.

Lord Eddard is able to escape the city with his daughters and any of Robert's bastards he can find. Gendry becomes one of Winterfell's guards and Arya's sworn shield. He remains a rather poor horsemen though.

I'm in a redesign mood lately, so here some Stark crests!

Something I think about a lot and I mean A LOT is if Arya was also a ballerina while she was in Braavos. Ik it’s not “historically accurate” because ballet wasn’t created until the 1500s in Italy but Braavos is inspired by Venice and it would just go so well with her storyline!

Ballet would be good training for anyone in the House of Black and White because you learn to be a good actor, you learn to be more graceful, make essentially no noise when landing from leaps with hard shoes, and it works out a lot of muscles you can’t get to with most exercises.

Arya has a water motif throughout all of the books. Could you imagine if she was a part of performing Swan Lake?! I’m not saying she would be Odette (white swan) or Odile (black swan) because she would need years of experience for those roles. But Arya has always felt she was an ugly duckling and dancing as a graceful swan, especially if it was right before her leaving Braavos, would symbolize her self-transformation and growth.

You know what I just realized...

That according to the last book ’ Arya Stark’ is supposed to be one of the most politically important and powerful name in the North. Since right now all the Northern lords (except lord Manderly) believe ‘Arya’ to be the only true born Stark child who still lives, then for the time being this makes her the heir apparent to Winterfell & to Robb Stark’s winter crown. We know that the lords were already seething at the rumours of the torture ’ Arya’ went through at the hands of Ramsay Bolton and would have raised the banners in her name had she not escaped. Further to the North Jon Snow and his ‘wildling army’ were preparing to march south in response to Ramsay’s letter before he got ambushed by the black brothers….I mean my girl is all the way out there in Braavos and she literally has no idea that the whole north is stirring in her name. No idea what power her name holds.

arya underfoot is my fave sobriquet in asoiaf. i love love love it. arya is “dubbed” underfoot by her father’s men. its a sign of affection between the men who served the starks and arya who took in interest in them. she had a close relationship with all of the people in winterfell and this name is an enduring part of that.

arya says fat tom came up with the name. its one of the last things hullen says with his dying breath. when his son harwin recognizes arya its what he calls her while holding back tears. even in adwd jon and theon both think of her as arya underfoot.

its a name arya likes which is why its frequently used in contrast with horseface - a name that made her feel like an outsider. arya underfoot, though, is a gesture of arya being embraced by her community. it really feels like the truest essence of her character.
