book meme / the boat, nam le
you were sick.
a day lived, a sea of knowledge earned.
everyone says so.
family is family. you might only have one shot at it.
don’t worry about me.
thank you, sweetie.
be careful or your hands will blister.
i didn’t mean to wake you.
the past’s a cold body of water for me and nowadays my bones ache after even a quick dip.
you’re exhausted.
a mess. i’m a mess.
we just don’t talk about that kind of stuff.
do you want me to make some lunch?
that was the big secret.
fuck off. i’m serious.
the captive buffalo hates the free buffalo.
i don’t want you to say what i want you to say!
a precaution against what?
we’re almost there.
don’t go anywhere.
just saying it felt like some sort of betrayal.
i read your story this morning. while you were still sleeping.
listen to you and your fancy language.
don’t be such a little dickhead then.
all bullshit.
as much loneliness as fear.
how’s your back?
i was dreaming.
it’s tough enough for him already.
i’m probably a bad person.
you’re angry.
i didn’t want to be defined by it.
be quiet! be quiet!
it’s crowded as hell.

New Editions,
The walk back to the ship had been caution filled, he and his crew ever alert for any Cabal that may come across their path. Not only for the item that they had come here for, but also for the safety of the two pups that were nestled in the fur of his cloak.
Thankfully, the trip back to their ship had been uneventful, the captain breathing a small sigh of relief as he helped his crew carry the container on board. Once it was secure he gave the order to fly on towards where the drop would take place, as he went towards the storage area of the ship. He grabbed one of the ether emitters there, used mostly for healing but it would suffice for now. At least until he built something better for the little ones.
“Orcasiks...”
The captain did not notice his name being called as he walked towards the bedroom that he, and his crew shared. Gathering blankets and pillows off the floor to make a sort of nest, placing the ether emitter down in the middle and switched it on. He then gently pried the Eliksni pups out of the fur on his cloak, ignoring their soft chirps of protest as he set them down in the makeshift nest.
A purr rumbled in the captain’s throat as he knelt down and watched the little ones explore the nest, their soft curious chirps filling the air as blankets were nuzzled and chewed on.
“Orca!”
A voice called his name again, more sternly this time, and the captain quickly turned his head to gaze at the vandal standing in the doorway. Orcasiks realized then that he hadn’t been paying attention, and shook his head with a soft sigh.
“My thoughts were else where.. What is it that you need?”
He asked his crew member, who walked over to sit down beside the captain and gazed at the little ones who curled up beside the emitter. The vandal then softly hummed, tilting their head to side eye their captain.
“The crew and I were wondering, what you planned on doing with the little ones?”
The question asked made the captain sigh, once again standing at an undecided cross roads.
“I’m not sure.. I thought of returning them to their house, but.. it wouldn’t be right to abandon them to an awful life that we fought so hard to escape from.”
“So why do you hesitate?”
Orcasiks explained, and his crew member asked another question, both speaking in their native tongue as they gazed down at the Eliksni pups. The vandal was right, the captain was hesitating, even though he had come to a clear decision. Yet, he still found himself undecided. Uncertain, if this was truly the right choice.
“Our houseless life is not an easy one. We could perish at any moment, whether through a cheated deal or hunted down and killed by others. By our own kind... Would it be wise to raise little ones in a life like this?”
He asked the other, his voice soft as he thought over their lives. Granted they hadn’t had any serious accidents, but there was always the inevitable ‘what ifs?’ He looked over at his crew member as their clawed hand was placed on his arm, and their head rested against his shoulder.
“No our life is not easy, but they would still face the same risks growing up under a kell. Had it not been for us the pups would have been killed by the Cabal once they had been found. Small lives ended so short due to being left behind... At least with us they can grow up normally, without fear of docking or fear of obeying the kells. No life is easy, but with us they have a better chance..”
The vandal let their words weigh upon the captain, who sat in silence thinking it over. In the end he sighed, slowly nodding his head in agreement. His crew member chucked, patting his arm before standing.
“Should I tell the rest of the crew that we have some new editions then?”
“Yes.”
Orcasiks gave another nod to his crew member’s question, watching in amusement at how the other ran off in sudden excitement to share with the others. The captain could not blame them, as he lay down beside the nest of sleeping pups and took in the small peaceful moment. Took in the new position of fatherhood.

Little One,
An Eliksni was an Eliksni, no matter if they were rogue or if they belonged to a house. But a Cabal and Eliksni, these two would always be enemies, it didn’t matter who shot first, all that mattered was how many Cabals an Eliksni could kill.
Of course there was always fighting amongst each other, house members wouldn’t hesitate to kill a rogue captain or gun down houseless vandals on any given day. But, there was a bit of a silent truce when it came to attacking any Cabals. The houseless captain and his crew of vandals were quick to provide cover fire for the retreating Eliksni house, the captain soon rushing in with shock blades drawn to provide aid to a group of dregs, that had found themselves cut off from the others and swarmed.
The dregs huddled behind crates, clutching bundles of fabric to their chests instead of firing back. Orcasiks found this odd, but the captain didn’t have time to question as he slammed his blade into the face of a Cabal and quickly attacked another. With the help of his vandals he was able to bring that one down as well, and without hesitation he whipped around and roared at the dregs, the message clear. Run, and run quickly.
As the dregs ran with what ever they were carrying, Orcasiks turned back to the battle. Only to come face to face with a solid hunk of a fist slamming into the side of his helmet, it making his vision spin and causing him to hit the ground, completely disoriented. He heard a screeching call, and tried to answer back, tried to get back up on his feet. Though as he did so, he caught a glimpse of something under the crates, and upon closer inspection, was met with four little blue eyes.
He understood now what the dregs were carrying. He understood, why so many of them had chosen to run instead of just holding their ground against the Cabal. In such a hurry that a little one had gotten left behind. The captain felt a sudden surge of protectiveness course through him, a fire he could not name burning in his chest and traveling down into his fists.
Orcasiks rose upward with an angry roar, catching the attention of the Cabal who had been preoccupied with shooting at his crew of vandals. He didn’t hesitate to dash forward. Didn’t hesitate to duck under an oncoming fist to slam his own into the face of the Cabal. Once, then twice. Before he grabbed the dagger from his side and delivered the sharp blade into the other’s throat.
His shoulders raised and lowered with each deep breath after the soldier fell. Taking a moment to calm the burning inside him, taking a moment to breathe before he turned away and went back towards the crates, ignoring the calls of concern from his crew. He knelt down and softly called to the little one in his native tongue. Softly answered the fearful, squeaking chirps, until not one, but two small Eliksni pups crawled out from their hiding places.
A few days old from what Orcasiks could tell, as he lowered his arms for the two fluffy little ones to climb up towards his chest. As they climbed he looked them over for any injury, but thankfully saw none, and waited until they settled into the fur along his cloak to turn towards his waiting crew. He now had a decision to make, to either return the little ones to the house from where they came? Or, keep them in his care? It seemed the day was not yet over...

Rituals,
The nights always ended the same, the ship settled down in some nowhere spot, on some planet. In hopes that it would be safely hidden away so he and the crew could get some decent rest.
Extra security measures were always set in place, alarms ready to blare and wake them up if someone so much as entered the atmosphere near their ship. Orcasiks could never be to careful, often triple checking just in case, as yawns plagued his jaw.
It was then that the final ritual of their nights began. The captain pulled and pushed along by tired, grumpy vandals. Snarling and hissing for him to hurry up, that they couldn’t possibly sleep without him there. It always made him chuckle, gently protesting with snarls of his own. But in the end, he let himself be lead away to the bedroom they all shared.
The room wasn’t to large, but just big enough for them all to stretch out, not that they would. Pillows and blankets scattered about the floor, accumulated over the years from various trips to different markets, everyone had their particular favorite item. Even the captain, but he was only interested in blankets, finding and folding up one of the more softer ones to use as a sort of bed.
Orcasiks settled down onto the blanket on his stomach, tucking his four arms up under his belly as he stretched out his legs a bit. By the time he was done settling into position, his crew closed in on him and so began the small squabble of who would get to lay on the captain’s back. Of who would get to use the captain’s furred cape as a pillow.
Hissing and snarling, arguments of who did more work that day and who was more tired then others. The captain always found it amusing to listen to, and only piped up if the fighting spiraled out of control. He was nearly dozing by the time someone had won, letting out a soft wheeze and breathy sigh as the winner kneeled down on his back, wonderfully popping his spine.
Kneeling, shifting and rearranging until comfortable, the captain felt the winner finally curl up on him and nuzzle their face into the fur of his cape. A sleepy purr of amusement rumbled through his chest as he felt the others settle around and on top of him, until all were still and comfortable. A warm pile of Eliksnis, sleeping peacefully, and hopefully not disturbed.

The Eliksni nodded in understanding, then nodded again, a bit more eagerly.
“Yes, stick to south wall. Not to scare others. Not to cause.. pan-nick?”
The word clicked awkwardly off his tongue, causing him to tilt his head in thought, wondering if he had used the right word. He then shook his head, dismissing it as he tried to step around the Guardian.
“Meeting another.. Calls himself TeX-1. He is here.. somewhere...”
He looks around for a moment, trying to gain his bearings again. Trying to recall where he is on his mental map, before he was distracted.
@protectedwall (Continued from)-
An armored body stilled under that cold stare, not daring to move, but not going to cower away either. The captain had not intended to run into anyone, especially not a Guardian. Out of all creatures to come across…
Still Orcasiks made his intentions clear, the last thing he wanted to do was to hurt anyone. The last thing he wanted to do, was to fight. He knew this was not a fight he would win, he knew what arc energy could do. What it had done in battle against other Eliksnis.
He let out a breath he hadn’t known he’d been holding, when he saw the Guardian relax. Saw that energy disappear, and he felt his own uneasiness dissipate.
“To attack blindly, I would have done. Had I wanted to hurt, to kill.. Yet my blade stays sheathed..”
English tongue was not his strong suit, but he hoped the message was clear. Had he wanted to kill the other, he would have already done so…

Loyalty,
A clawed hand runs along the side of his ship, checking along the metal for any damage. Thinking on old memories. Each piece put together by his hands, each piece soaked in anger and desperation.
Anger, at what things had become. Desperation to be more, to be free. An anger that burned so hot he used it to torch and weld each piece of the ship into it’s proper place. No part of the ship was untouched, no part was rushed. Carefully crafted and sculpted for every situation he could think of. Built large to hold a crew of ten.
More then enough space for his crew of seven. Seven who shared the same feelings he did, who wanted to be more and tired of the treatment of the kells. Torment, abuse. But instead of being broken, each one’s raging flame burned hot. Drove them forward, and drew them to each other.
They were more then just a crew of Vandals and a Captain. Each voice was equal here. Each opinion taken into consideration on every decision that was to be made, and a mutual agreement that the captain had the final word. He made the hard choices, when there was more disagreements then agreements. When everyone protested against him putting his life on the line.
But he would always put them before himself, put them before his ship. Arrangements and plans had been made, should the day come that he perish. The title of captain would fall upon one of the crew, or all of them, what ever they chose to decide for themselves. His final order would always remain the same, ‘do not avenge me’.
He wanted no lives lost other then his own when it came down to it. When it came down to the risks of meeting face to face with the one who had hired him and his crew. He would not make that same mistake again. He would not put them in danger again.
A second ship, similar to his own but built together with him and his crew. Each piece crafted together with equal parts hope, and equal parts dread. Hope that it wouldn’t be the day that the second ship was used. Dread, for the day when the crew of seven hidden inside the second ship got that horrible notification that the meeting had gone south.
Nervousness rose as the seven waited in silence and secrecy upon the second ship. Safely hidden in space as their captain sat vulnerable inside the lands of the chosen meeting planet. It was the only decision they ever disagreed on, but still they obeyed their captain, with a loyalty that ran deeper then just duty.
With a loyalty that gave Orcasiks strength to face the employer without fear. Strength to snarl and snap back at those who tried to back out of agreements. Deals would be kept, or lives would be lost. He may be houseless, but as with every Eliksni, he would not go down so easy. He would not go down, without dragging the enemy with him.
