humansympathies:

       cedric’s jaw is tense as he listens to her speak, and his dark eyes fall to the table between them. he seems hesitant to answer, hesitant to reveal the nature of his father’s worries when he doesn’t know phryne’s alignment in this war, and his eyes fall shut. “it was just a duel gone poorly. i didn’t want him to worry about the magic i was practicing.” it’s not a lie.

          “ i see, “ phryne replies slowly.  “ and has he got cause to worry? “

                   phryne isn’t one to judge.  strictly speaking, plenty of the magic she practices is... QUESTIONABLE in nature, and she was no better as a student.  she had been sentenced to a great many detentions in her younger days.  now she was simply harder to catch.

          " i don’t intend to tell your father, but i do need honesty. “

       “there will certainly be time for that; in fact, i intend to have one very soon,” hannibal responds, lips curling upward in a friendly smile. he gives her hand a shake before turning his head to let his eyes move over the body. “perhaps you can enlighten me on the situation thus far.”

              “ you’ll forgive me if i leave the OFFICIAL report to the police, “ prhyne answers, making a grand show of being a responsible civilian for only as long as she could stand it -- which turned out to be little more than a heartbeat -- before her red lips twisted into a mischievous grin. “ because the local theories are much more interesting.  last i heard, there might even be a ghost! “

   ❛ ah, miss fisher, you are - as ever - exceedingly observant. ❜ but the doctor doubts even she could make the connection. he’s changed a lot in the past couple of incarnations, and he never did get around to explaining that bit of his biology. - or much of anything at all, really. he’d swanned off before she could ask him any questions at all. ❛ i did leave in a bit of a rush after our last shindig. my time was limited then, you see - i was hoping to get in another modest adventure before i was relegated back to living my life linearly. of course they caught me - naughty doctor, ever the troublemaker, falling out of line once again. ❜ 

           “ doctor? “ phryne repeats, eyebrows lifting.  well, that settles at least one mystery -- immediately the charming, albeit unusual, gentleman she’d met some time ago ( how long had it been? a few months? more? for some reason she couldn’t strictly recall ) sprung to mind, and she was all at once certain that it was, indeed, where the nagging sense of familiarity had been born.  she remembered the man who called himself the doctor in great detail however -- he was hardly the type one would soon forget -- and this was NOT him.

           “ i’m afraid you may be mistaken; i am acquainted with precisely two doctors.  one of them is my dear friend doctor mcmillan, and the other is a rather CURIOUS gentleman to whom you bear very little resemblance. “

                     the fact that he recognized her and could call her by name was a different mystery altogether.

       “uh, obviously the feud is because your great-great grandfather betrayed our king and split off to make his own country after a bloody, violent rebellion; we both have monarchies, because the rebellion was about who would be king; and your name is ANASTASIA BLACKSTONE. duh.”

         “ well, since you’ve put so much THOUGHT into it, i can hardly refuse, ” phryne answers.  she uncrosses her legs and stands, effortlessly elegant in her posture.  it will take little effort for her to put on a regal air.

         “ now if i’m not mistaken, you and i need to find clothes for anastasia and rhys.  it won’t do to let them be shown up at a party.  they are much too posh for that. “

phryne dresses fashionably but practically. typically she chooses an outfit that is weather appropriate, but if she has a choice, she would rather wear something sleeveless and compensate for weather with an overcoat.  long sleeves are more likely to get snagged during the course of wholesome activities such as lock picking, climbing through windows, and chasing murderers.  not to mention, a woman’s arms are worth showing off.

I just want you to know that I actually screeched a little when I saw your blog pop up on my dash. I love Phryne so so much and I am absolutely ECSTATIC to see her in the rp world!

        “not that i don’t find this plan entirely CHARMING, detective, but i think that particular cover might be a bit... ambitious.  so many questions that need answering,” phryne warns, lips tugging upward in amusement.  “what is this age old feud about?  what form of government have we established in our two countries?  and what name could you possibly hope to give me that would sound worthy of being rhys stormhold’s bride?”
