GREATER MANCHESTER LAW CENTRE FIRST ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING
MANCHESTER NEEDS A LAW CENTRE!
TUESDAY 8th SEPTEMBER 6.30pm
Mechanics Institute, 103 Princess St. M1 6DD
There used to be eight law centres in Greater Manchester. Now just two remain. The city of Manchester itself has NO law centre. The Government wants to prevent access to justice and does so most effectively by removing the advice agencies that can deliver access to those most in need. This situation cannot be allowed to continue.
With your help there will be a law centre in Manchester.
The aim of the law centre is to enable the people of Greater Manchester to campaign for change and to provide access to free legal advice and representation for people who could not otherwise afford it.
So far we have:
· Mark George QC speaking
· held a well-attended public meeting on 31st March 2015 to launch the law centre
· drawn up a constitution and business plan
· registered with Companies House
· secured funding for a development worker
· set up ‘Friends of Greater Manchester Law Centre’ and list of supporters
Initially we expect to provide advice in the areas of employment and welfare benefits. We aim to expand provision over time and support campaigns in public law and human rights. This will be a law centre run by and on behalf of the people of Greater Manchester.
Volunteers will be the backbone of the organisation.
Please come to our first AGM and help to make Greater Manchester Law Centre a reality.
