Iâm all for fucking around and finding out but in this situation (trump & the billionaires trying to drag america into tech bro fascist hell) too many people are being hurt and too many more WILL die if things do not change. you do not need to forgive those who voted for him, you do not need to find the sympathy to feel bad for them now that theyâre being affected by his policies. but we cannot turn them away once they turn on trumpâ and they are. too little too late, maybe. studying for the test after they failed, sure. but Iâm so serious when I say this is not the time for perfectionism. this is the time to push a dictator & his cronies out with any hands that are willing to shove

I know itâs really hard to be hopeful right now, and Iâve shared a couple big-picture articles about âhey, people are doing things, people are fighting back, but legal and political shit takes time.â But if you want some small hope, some personal experiences of things changing, I can tell you about my FB timeline right now as someone who comes from a conservative Christian, southern background (and who typically avoids FB at all costs unless Iâm looking to buy something on Marketplace).
People are angry. Trump voters are angry. About government layoffs that impacted people who they KNOW were performing their jobs with distinction, about the removal of support for their disabled kids in their schools, about the halt of cancer research, about food prices and recalls and the spread of disease, concerns about national parksâ longevity for future generations, about the suspension of aid.
People are angry. The same people that voted for Trump, or stayed silent about their political leanings until this point, are posting videos of Trump and Elon and calling them liars. Theyâre posting videos of impacted workers talking about the important, widely overlooked, jobs they do that contribute to the underlying foundation of Americanâs health and safety. Iâve seen reposts of Methodist, Baptist, and Catholic church statements condemning Trumpâs actions and reminding him of the âmoral imperative to assist those in needâ that all humans should have regardless of faith.
People are angry and theyâre saying âthis isnât what I voted for,â or, if they were of the quieter minority in these deeply republican communities, theyâre saying, âHey, look what you voted for. Look what youâve done.â
This is a big deal. People are angry. And while I wish that this recognition could have come sooner, it reassuring to see that people are, at least, admitting that shit is on fire. Recognition is the first step.

Also do not want whoever wrote the above tags to feel dogpiled on but have noticed that there seems to be a weird attitude among some leftists that like, anything less of a hero slaying the orange worm with a magic sword is failure.
And I donât know how to word this well but to me it feels like youâre buying into this myth that all it takes to build a good or perfect world is one big fight to kill one amalgamation of Evil with the capital âEâ. Books, shows, movies; all stories sort of train us all to think like that, because of how symbolism and plots work.
But if we really want a better world, we have to accept that itâs going to be a lot of little struggles. Sometimes itâs a struggle to build something new. Other times itâs a struggle to stop something harmful. Historically speaking, if we do well enough at stopping the bad shit, we get to build some good shit for a while. Which can feel a lot more inspiring and bright. But currently weâre very much in the âstop bad shitâ phase. Itâs not a fun phase, but we wonât make it out of this with cruel cynicism. That only serves those trying to keep us defeated and downtrodden.
Things are pretty bleak, and there are lives being seriously hurt and even ended by what is happening right now. But remember that the damage being done to them is, no joke, the result of a piece paper that someone held up and said âI can do this.â So maybe itâs a really really good thing that we can limit or stop that harm by holding up a different piece of paper saying âhey, no, actually you canât.â
âThis thing is legally dubious and therefore technically unenforceable.â Is not a âuseless liberal gotchaâ itâs how legalism works in this country. Tying up stupidly worded EOs in court is the quickest way to keep them from being implemented. It is the definition of âdoing something.â But it doesnât usually involve much tweeting so of course a certain type of leftist feels obligated to mock it.

I've got a pageant-themed murder mystery party to go to after tomorrow's trial. We're supposed to write our characters' states on our sashes.
I'm tired.

âNational teacher shortageâ is a fun way of saying that the USA has made a passion driven job so ungodly inhospitable that even people who âjust care about teaching, not the moneyâ donât even care about teaching anymore.
