Ever After High is like what if being doomed by the narrative was legally inherited, only being “doomed by the narrative” is actually the school to prison pipeline, only the “school to prison pipeline” is a piece of paper that reads “I will commit crimes and go to jail”, only the piece of paper is a Faustian contract and if you sign it you WILL inevitably commit crimes and go to jail, only the Faustian part is that if you don’t sign it your literature teacher will force you to. Because you’re a ninth grader.

mizuki crying telling ena that she wants to be the kind of friend you can be with without either feeling guilty, or cautious around. mizuki telling ena she’s scared people will scorn her too for being friends mizuki, saying she would hate to have to check ena’s expression every time someone made a comment. that she’d hate it for ena to walk on eggshells around her, too scared of hurting her feelings, now that she knows. ena screaming that it all doesn’t matter. that yes, she was surprised and learned something new about mizuki, but she hasn’t changed, her feelings haven’t changed. mizuki is mizuki, and she still sees her the same way. ena telling mizuki that yes sometimes she might hurt her inadvertently but she will just have to correct herself, and that is okay because she never wants to hurt her. ena getting angry, screaming that mizuki doesn’t get to just decide for her. that she doesn’t care what other people might say, she doesn’t care about anything, because losing mizuki would hurt her the most. screaming at her that it’s NOT about “deserving” to be by someone’s side. ena still trying anyway to set mizuki free and let her choose for herself, falling to her knees after chasing her. mizuki taking all the courage she can muster and not running away and trusting ena and sinking to the ground holding her hand and allowing ena to see her cry her heart out. no more secrets. no more distance.
