You misunderstand. Like I said in this post, some arguments made against the trope are unnecessary. People die. LGBT people are people… they’re going to die. My point of this post is this was the very first case they focused on that has died on screen, and she was gay. To further my point, there was absolutely no plot point to have this woman be gay (unless something ends up happening down the line in the plot regarding the malpractice).
The trope is statistically extremely lopsided. There’s a post by @susiephone that has a great visual representation of what I mean. I’ll include it here.
I don’t mind that she died, per say. I mind that over six episodes, this show has shown these doctors kill exactly one person and that person was a gay woman.
The Good Doctor just pissed me off
The following post will contain spoilers to s01e06 “Not Fake”
I enjoyed Freddie Highmore in Bates Motel and generally enjoy medical shows. I started watching The Good Doctor last night and caught up today and I’ve enjoyed it thus far….
Until they pulled the fucking “bury your gays” trope.
Some arguments made against this odd trend are really reaching and unnecessary… I get it, people die… especially in a medical show but are you FUCKING kidding me?!? This is the FIRST LGBT character shown on the show (that I noticed, other than her wife) AND THE VERY FIRST FUCKING PERSON THEY KILLED ON SCREEN AND SHE JUST HAD TO BE A LESBIAN?!?
Like give me a fucking break. They’ve had a few “not so perfect ending” cases (Chuck, Evan) but they have left their respective episodes happy and currently L-I-V-I-N-G.
You’re seriously going to make the first official (on screen) character death a gay woman?!
What was the fucking point of making this character LGBT?! She could have just as easily been written as a man, or a friend of the patient. But really… you have to give her a wife and then tragically kill her off.
This type of lazy writing has got to stop. WE’RE. NOT. JUST. HERE. FOR. YOU. TO. KILL. OFF.
