Folktaleweek: trail Illustration for The spectre bride, poem inspired by czech folktales: "The way led uphill, hard and stiff, Through woodlands and past rock and cliff. And hawthorns sharp wher’er she trod Bore red marks from her oozing blood."

riz's first bloodrush game, he's nauseous from nerves in the locker room before they go out there and fabian gives him a pep talk? or distracts him? some nice moment between them on riz's first game basically. maybe they go out just the two of them afterwards to celebrate a good game
His bloodrush uniform was heavy, much heavier than his usual adventuring clothes at least and right now it felt like it was anchoring him to the floor. There were so many people out there. Honestly it didn't feel like that many when you were in the crowd but he'd be on the field this time. Front and centre. He was a rogue he didn't do front and centre.
Riz dug his claws into the doorframe as he stared out down the corridor towards the field, his ears would be pinned against his head even without his helmet as he took in the sheer scope of how many people would be watching them. The goblin not doing a very good job of holding back his panic.
"Ooooh this was a bad idea. I can't do this. I think I'm going to be sick." He let go of the doorframe and stepped backwards, colliding with someone standing behind him who placed a firm hand on his shoulders.
"You good, The Ball?" Fabian had clocked his friends panic from half-way across the locker room, he wished he could give him bardic but he needed to save those for the game itself. "You've looked less rattled fighting dragons. What gives?"
"Yeah well, there werent four hundred people watching me fight the dragons and scrutinizing how well I was doing." The goblin tipped his head back, blinking up at Fabians face and grimacing slightly. "If I fuck up everyone is going to see it."
"So what if you fuck up? You've been to practice, you've run all the drills and you're good at this. Who cares if you fumble? It's our job to back you up." Fabian gave him a gentle knock on the helmet with his knuckles, making Riz flinch at the noise and hiss at him though there was little venom behind it.
"What if we loose because of me? Everyone is going to hate me."
"I won't. You're still my best friend at the end of the day, even if by some miracle you manage to fuck this up so catastrophically even my superior skill and grace can't salvage it." The half elf grinned when that made Riz laugh, the goblin ducking his face back down to hide a creeping blush at Fabians declaration.
"Thanks Fabian. I'll uh... I'll do my best."
"Hey whoa, maybe scale it back a little bit from your best. Your best murders dragons and the other team needs to survive the game."

the bad kids make a night out of going to all the bloodrush games. fig makes spicy hot chocolates. adaine packs extra scarves for everyone who forgets their winter coats. riz brings everyone's favorite candy that he can find at the dollar store. kristen falls asleep somehow amongst all the cheering and loud noises. gorgug thanks them everytime for showing up to support them. fabian never admits it but he appreciates it more than he can put into words
Riz, Adaine, Fig and Kristen all meet up to get supplies earlier in the afternoon before heading over to the field early. They're technically not supposed to be there before the gates open but no one has caught Riz blocking out the best seats right near the front yet.
Once they're all settled the real fun begins. They've shoved an entire buffet almost into their rogues briefcase so they dont have to pay the ridiculous consession prices, they're all dressed up in team colours, they've got a hand-painted banner to wave and they are so loud the entire time.
Fabian and Gorgug always perk up a little bit whenever they see their friends, close enough to get high-fives on the way to the field before the game starts. They got so used to it happening EVERY game that they had a little panic when the rest of their party wasn't in their usual spot once, turns out they had to sit a little further down because their normal seats were broken and getting repaired.

My mind returned to the 'Riz gets sick and Sklonda takes him to the Mountains of Chaos' and am thinking about how the other Bad Kid are during this.
I think they learn about this if they were all at Modred when Sandra Lynn got the call from Sklonda - but what would they be thinking while they waiting?
Theyd been halfway through dinner when Sandra Lynne got the call, the ranger abandoning the rest of her meal as she hurriedly got her gear together and head outside to fetch Baxter. The girls had been worried, mostly because she never looked this serious when work emergencies came up, and had followed her into the back yard.
She was only just able to explain what was going on, though the details had been pretty sparse because Sklonda was on the verge of panic over the phone. Riz was sick. REALLY sick and it wasnt something theyd be able to treat at the hospital so she was going to give them a ride to their family horde. It would take over an hour to get to the mountains from here and that was AFTER she went to fetch the two goblins.
The girls knew Riz hadn't been feeling great at school today, their rogue dipping on their planned trip to the mall and going straight home instead. They knew he felt pretty awful if he was actually admitting it for once but they didn't know it was that serious.
Fig had tried insisting on coming with but her mom shot the idea down pretty quick. They needed speed and Baxter wouldn't be able to handle the extra weight.
In the end they all had to stay behind, waiting for updates all huddled in the living room as the hours ticked by. They'd called Fabian and Gorgug too just to give them a heads up, just in case one of them tried to get a hold of Riz, panicked when he didn't answer and tried to kick his front door in... again. No one was surprised when both boys turned up not long after to sit around and wait with them.
It was three hours before Sandra Lynne got back, face a little grim as she went to have a shower and change just in case Riz was contagious. She wouldn't be heading back out until the day after tomorrow and they wouldnt get any updates because of the spotty reception.
They still hounded Sandra Lynne for any info she had though. Riz hadn't looked good when she collected the two goblins from their apartment, covered in purple splotches and shaking like he'd been dunked in an ice bath (Kristen and Adaine immediately started researching to find out what he'd come down with but info was sparse at best).
As for where she'd taken him, Sklonda had her land in a field near the cliffs at the southern end of the mountain range before leaving her with Riz for a while. Only returning after 20 minutes with a handful of goblins to help her carry Riz away. Goblins tended to be cagey about the locations of their nests so it was understandable that they didn't let her get close.
