Books that keep you
Some books call you, and you can do nothing but to go quietly, pick them up and if you get lucky, perhaps, form a bond and keep it close forever. That’s what happened when I bought Complete Works Of Kahlil Gibran. The pre loved book with its hazy print and old weary pages called me out at and held me together from the minute i picked it.
The book has something for all seasons, moods and phases. Joy and Sorrow, Work, Giving, Finding God, Love, Marriage, Freedom, Pain, Passion, Children, Life, Friendship and Religion among the rest. May be which is why it stays relevant year on year. I open the omnibus once in a year or more, and there is a new lesson learnt every single time. So much so that i thought i need to have a better copy of this book.A new book was purchased. This time with a purple satin hard cover, obviously costing more. It looks and feels better; though it's just lying on the book shelf. And the other one which is now in a tattered and old state lies on my bed side table.
Perhaps some part of the book read me to myself, like a revelation, layer by layer, till i could finally accept who i am, what i am meant to be and be content with it. For this, I will eternally be thankful to Gibran. A torchbearer for dark times, a friend when the world is uncharitable; one of those books that keep you. Best 800 pages ever invested in :)

Pune Life
Pune has given much solace to my soul. Having stayed in Mumbai for the bulk of my life, it has been a welcome change. Embalmed by a mountain and its myriad inhabitants, the place I call home is now a quaint place. An antithesis to my life in Mumbai.
I can now identify birds by their colour and shape *pats her own back*. Heck, I almost had an Owl visiting me in the balcony a few weeks back. And there is another frequent visitor, the giant squirrel. It happens to be at loggerheads with the other inhabitants of the mountain. There is a wild chase across the length and breadth of the massive mountain every time the state animal passes by. Much to the dismay of the usual pack of dogs, the chase is nothing more than a good cardio perhaps.
For the trekker soul, Pune is nothing short of a paradise. Weekend treks can be done irrespective of where you stay in the city. There is no dearth of good trekking spots. Especially this time of the year. When rains are around the corner, there are special night treks. The ones where you get to see magical fireflies lighting up your trekking path. One tree at a time, thousands of fireflies together. I have been on one such night trek to Rajmachi fort last year. A personal rendezvous with the fireflies through a dark forest was too exciting a proposition. Armed with a dozen good pics and a leg filled with stray bug bites, It was a happy journey.
And if you don’t want to venture far, there are hills across the city. All you need for a good time here in the city is a robust tent, few friends to share chai with and a family that visits often.

Beach days are the best. Your pooch also needs regular change in his routine.. A different route for his walk, a hike may be, whatever it is that works for the two/three/four of you…

Lessons from a dog
Important life lessons I learnt from my dog: 1. Love with reckless abandon. Make it known how special your people are to you 2. Ask for love when you want. You can want it ten times a day 3. Always give more than what your receive 4. If you don’t like someone, make it evident. Life is too small to tolerate things/people/experiences you don’t approve of 5. Sleeping and napping are good for health, let there be no compromises 6. Food is top priority. Eat small meals through the day. There will always be some leftovers under the table. 7. Walking twice a day keeps you sane. 8. You have to train people around you. Bark once every two minutes for a walk, twice every thirty seconds for food, thrice every ten seconds if you want attention. Let your humans feel they have trained you. However you know the truth 9. The last point is for dogs only. 10. Everyone needs me time, even dogs. Don’t encroach their space 11. If you keep looking into someone’s eyes for a long time, there’s a bright chance of getting a biscuit. Unless you are a Lhasa or a Shitzu, then no one can really make out your eyes and what you want. 12. Last point is applicable only if you are a dog. Also, point number 6
