βGET OUT OF THERE, NOW!β the words rang through your earpiece, making your body freeze on the spot. although, it didnβt take another second for your brain to act on the call.
βTHE BUILDING WILL GO UP IN FLAMES IN A HANDFUL OF MINUTES, EVACUATE, NOW!β this time it was your lieutenantβs voice that sounded through your ears. the same lieutenant who was praying on your downfall, almost all the time.
you didnβt know why he hated you so much. at first you assumed it was because youβre a woman, that was the most logical answer. then you thought it might be because of your call sign. maybe he thought someone by the nickname of βangelβ wasnβt suited up for the military.
but you didnβt have time to think about that. the only thought running through your head was to escape. to get out of the building as quickly as possible.
your footsteps echoed off the wooden stairs as you let your rifle swing back against your chest. you prayed the remaining enemies would have already fled the building, working on the assumption that they had been the ones to set this trap up. you just hoped the rest of your team made it out okay.
the building was so large you had no idea what door you exited out of. you didnβt see another soul on your flee from the structure and you didnβt see anyone outside either. with your hands on your knees, you took a second to gain your breath back.Β
βhello? can anyone hear.. weβre having trouble with the connection.. hello?β you heard another voice crackle through the radio. raising to your full height, your eyebrows furrowed.Β
βi can hear you.. i got out. where are you?β you asked, pressing down the black button pinned to your vest.
βangel?β you hear the voice of your lieutenant. his tone almost sounded like a scoff.Β
βyes, sir?βΒ thereβs no reply. so you continued to walk away from the building, hoping to run into someone familiar.
the gravel crunches under your boots as you round a corner, finally spotting the man you dread. you pick up the pace, coming to a stop behind your lieutenant. a debate breaks out in your mind, should you alert him of your presence or just go and abide with the rest of your team?Β
BOOM!Β
the loud noise felt like it rumbled the earth, your hands instantly flying up to cover your ears as you cowered away. the building that you were once inside was now dancing with flames. the orange embers lighting up the sky.
you took a step back, knocking into something hard. it was price, and you almost sighed in relief. but his face suddenly contorted into a fearful look.
βwhereβs soap?β he asked, before you could even get a word out.
the world went silent for a second, the roaring of flames no longer present in your ears. he had gotten out? right? you turned your body back to the building, the fire daring to hypnotise you.Β
your eyes took one last scan of the landscape. no soap. fuck. you didnβt even give it a second thought. sprinting towards the first door in your eye-line. but you were pulled back. a strong grip on your vest stopped you in your tracks.Β
βlet me go!β you shouted, struggling against their grip.
a voice sounded dangerously close to your ear. βyou go into that building, and i wonβt hesitate to kick you off my team.βΒ
you knew exactly who it was, and your fight subsided for a second. the options were laid right out in front of you. but you didnβt care. ghost had wanted you off this team for as long as you could remember, best to give him his wish now.
the clip on your vest suddenly became loose by your own hands. you were now free, running off to the building while your lieutenant stood dumbfounded with a single vest dangling from his fingers. you didnβt know that though, you didnβt look back without a thought.
immediately, the smoke consumed you, the flames hot on your skin. you paused for half a second, only to grab your gas mask out of the belt strapped to your waist. the loops you tied around your head were careless, the only thought on your mind was getting to soap. you needed to save him.
but you were stumped, how were you supposed to find him in this giant building? your moment of weakness didnβt help you at all. a loud bang echoed off the decaying walls. at first, you thought the building might of been collapsing, but a wild pain in your arm defined the problem.
someone had shot at you.
the moment of weakness caused you to look around, subconsciously feeling for your gun. then you remembered youβd discarded it when you left ghost with your vest. oh no..
you pushed the stinging in your arm to one side. it was surely just a graze. now wasn't the time to think, but before you could get back on track, another familiar sound bounced around your ears. somebody else had a gun.
your eyes automatically swept to the location of the noise, it was just muscle memory, but you were so glad they did. the flames from the fire made it hard to make out shapes, but you could clearly see an arm franticly waving at you. without a thought, your body carried you to the figure, the pain in your limbs overpowered by adrenaline.Β
you fell on your knees in front of this body, narrowing your eyes to try and read the patch sewn onto their vest.Β
MACTAVISH, it read.
you breathed out a sigh of relief, looking into his eyes. you couldn't speak with the mask on, though you highly doubted he would have been able to hear you over the roaring of the blaze. he gave a sad smile, shaking his head. you knew exactly what he meant, so you shook yours back. you were going to get him out of there.
the extent of his injuries were unknown, his blood mixing with the red from the flames. it must be serious if he thinks heβs not making it out.
like a second nature, your eyes scanned the space to find an exit, finally deciding you would have to go out the one you came in. turning back to him, you gestured for his mask. he shook his head again, his movements weak and sluggish. you knew you didnβt have much time.Β
shaky hands tried to unbuckle his vest, but with your gloves on, you couldnβt get a grip on it. so you took them off. the heat seeping into your skin. with clenched teeth, you managed to rid of his vest. it would help you in the long run, the amount of equipment would weigh you down. carrying him would already be a challenge.
his position was awkward, and although he wasnβt yet a dead weight, he sure would be soon. with your hands under his arms, you managed to spin him around to face the exit. your plan of action was to drag him whilst walking backwards. it was the first solution your brain could scramble.
the buckles you tightened on his mask were no much better than yours, it was only temporary, just until you could heave him out - which you hoped would be soon. you took the deepest breath you could, standing up to your own height.
there was absolutely no time to waste. your hands slipped back under his arm pits and you began to ascend back to where you came from. pulling him along was hard, he was already a big man and the pains in your limbs didnβt help, but you trained for this, you could do it.
your feet only made it halfway before he lost consciousness, turning a dead weight in your arms. you swore to yourself, letting him rest on the ground for just a moment while you tried to regain your strength. but something else had gone wrong.
just a second ago you assumed the movement out the corner of your eye were the embers dancing around. but the white, hot pain in your side proved you wrong. your body fell to the ground with a shriek of pain, landing on top of a deceased man.
someone had shot another gun, this time their attempts worked, the blood rushing in your ears had muffled the noise. they had got you.Β
to your advantage, you knew where the gun wielding enemy was, but you had no defence. your eyes flicked back to the soldier you had fallen on. DUNNEL, the velcro read. your heart ached for a moment, you knew this guy, you trained with him, but it still felt invasive to search his body for a weapon, but what else could you do?
the speed in which your hands were roaming made your movements clumsy, unable to find an object for defence. great, now you were stuck in a burning building with an active enemy, an unconscious teammate - and you were probably going to bleed out and die.
another deafening bang filled your ears and your head snapped back to the shooter, but you couldn't see him anymore. it hadn't been another gunshot- the building was collapsing right in front of your eyes.
βshit!β you screamed to nobody in particular. you were fucked. the pain began to rise as you stumbled back onto your feet. nothing was going into your lungs anymore, so you took off the mask. your brain wasnβt working properly at this point.
adrenaline was the only thing fuelling you as your hands went back under soapβs arms and dragged his dead weight out of the building. you weren't even sure how you did it, but at the first flash of the doorway you came in from, you began screaming for help.
βm-medic!β your words were ashy βi need h-help! medic!β you screamed it like a chant before your body finally gave out and dropped soapβs limp figure on the gravel. a hoard of people came rushing towards him, forcing you to take a step back. your wide eyes were trying to focus on the scene in front of you, but your efforts weren't paying off.
your body curled over, dry gags left your mouth as you tried to get rid of the soot now settled in your lungs, until a glove clad hand settled on your shoulder. suddenly, you were face to face with a ghost. it almost felt right, until you realised it was the ghost you hated the most.
he was shouting at you.. at least you think he was. the ringing in your ears obscured your hearing, the only telltale sign was the anger that flashed in his eyes. βg-ghost..β you said, weakly. it felt like you were underwater, and it certainly felt like you were sinking as his iron grip released. you waited for the pain to wash over you, but it never did. you only felt better.. you felt calm, like you were floating as you drifted off into the welcoming warmth behind your eyelids.
ghost was getting frustrated. he hadnβt seen of you in three days, and his efforts to contact you always seemed to fall short. by his fourth pound on the door, he decided enough was enough. it took no sweat for him to pick the lock to your room. was it a disrespect of privacy? yeah. did he care? absolutely not. he needed a word with you about your little βstuntβ the other day.Β
his harsh words were lulled over, he regretted what he said to you after youβd dragged his teammate from the fire, but in a split of rage, he couldnβt help but threaten your position and ability as a soldier.
the four walls of your room only laughed at him. it was exactly how youβd left it. it was like you never even came back. his eyebrows drew together. where were you?
booted footsteps stormed down to priceβs office. ghost didnβt even bother knocking on the door. he didnβt even give price a chance to look up from his papers before he began accusations.
βwhere is she?β ghost asked, his eyes glistening with frustration.
just then was it price looked up, pausing the flowing of ink onto paper. βwho?β he asked, confused.
ghost only scoffed, crossing his arms over his chest. βyou know whoβΒ
βlaswell left hours ago, i thought she said goodbye to you?β the captain dropped his pen, interested in the woman ghost seemed to be looking for.
βnot fuckinβ laswell, price..β he hesitated βwhereβs.. angel?β
priceβs eyebrows shot up in surprise. βyou.. you donβt know?β
βknow what..?βΒ
βgod.. sheβs been in the infirmary for days, mate!β his tone was almost comical.
βno-β ghost shot back, almost instantly. βsoap was in the infirmary, i went to see him earlier and she definitely was not in thereβ soap had woken up that morning, ghost never saw or heard anything about you when he went to greet the scot.
βsoap woke up simon, her injuries are worse..β price looked up from his work. βwhy donβt you go and see herβ.
ghost rolled his eyes and scoffed, acting like price had told him to drink a jug of poison, mumbling incoherent words as he retreated from the office. once the door had slammed back into position, he stopped. the memories came rushing back. the way your body almost felt too light as heβd let you go, the way your eyes never focused on him and your brain sure as hell wasnβt processing his words.
he never did check on you.
his legs carried him down the hall before his mind could even catch up. the door to the infirmary seeped into his eye-line, his heavy hands pushing it open carelessly. the sweet nurse in the corner was the first that saw his menacing figure stood in the doorway.
βcan i help?β she asked, timidly, looking up at the giant in front of her.
ghost crossed his arms over his chest and adjusted his stance. βiβm looking for angelβ his tone was emotionless.
βalrightβ the nurse squeaked out, grabbing a clipboard from the desk. βfollow meβ
he followed her down a hallway and stopped behind her when she gestured to a door.Β
βin hereβ she muttered as they entered the room.
with wide eyes, he took in your form on the hospital bed. numerous wires surrounded your body and the steady beeping of machines slowed his own heart. you looked so.. still, too still for his liking. he was used to seeing you bounce around the base, but your fragile body in a hospital bed made a lump rise in his throat.
the nurse stood awkwardly, watching him stare at you in silence. she took one look at her clipboard and turned in his direction. clearing her throat, she spoke into the emptiness of the room.Β
βer.. she has minor burns on her face and her neck.. as you can seeβ she gestured to your body. βher hands have contracted second degree burns, but we are expecting them to heal quickly. sheβs got smoke inhalation on her lungs from the uh.. fire, but with some rest, the symptoms should subside. a bullet has grazed her left arm, we patched that up for her andβ¦she hasΒ
suffered a bullet wound on the left side of her waistβΒ
the last sentence made ghost internally wince. the nurse must of noticed his discomfort, so she tried to provide some light. βno internal organs were damaged, luckily. when she wakes up, the doctor will.. let her - and you- know her recovery plansβ
βwhen will she be waking up?β he asked, not being able to peel his eyes away from you.
βerm.. weβre not sure.. i can let you know when she wakes, if thatβs what you want?βΒ
βsureβ he said without really acknowledging her words. almost like he was trying to quietly dismiss her so he could be alone with you.
βi.. iβll leave you two alone thenβ her face held a small smile as she hurried out the door. not like he was looking anyway.
with eyes locked onto your figure, he made his way over to a small chair by your bed. his brain properly took in your injured body. the burns on your skin, the bandages around your limbs. you really had put your life on the line for one of your team mates and he almost smiled at the thought.. until he began to re-picture the events.
βyou go into that building and i wonβt hesitate to kick you off my team.βΒ
his tone was engraved into his throat. he was trying to protect you, the thought that if you went into the burning building then he could have lost two team mates. he never really meant it, but the way you faltered for a second before bolting away from him made him realise - you already made your choice.Β
βare you fuckinβ.. are you mental? bloody hell woman - fuckin, stupid!.. what were you thinking?β
the way he screamed those words at you may never float away from him, the regret deep in his body. he remembers the glazed look in your eyes- the eyes that never met his. you must of been out of it at that point, he was hopeful you didnβt remember.
but he couldn't sit there and stare at you any longer. even if he wished to be the first person youβd see when you wake up, he was almost certain you wouldn't think the same. so, he got up and left, walking back out to the sterile smell of the hallway. his legs never took him anywhere though. he was just stood, guarding your door.
until he spotted a familiar room number- soaps room.Β
the scot jumped when a tall man in a mask burst through the door of his hospital room.
βbloody hell! can you knock next time?β he tutted, turning back to lacing up his shoes.
βwhy didnβt you tell me?β ghost asked.
soap stopped his movements again. βtell you whatβ¦?β
ghost threw his arms up in the air βwhat the fuck! does everyone keep secrets in here or something, nobody bloody told me that angel was near fuckinβ death in a fuckinβ hospital bed!β his voice erupted in the air.
soap paused his movements, looking back at ghost with a straight expression. he mulled over his words βi-.. wasnβt it.. obvious?β he questioned.
ghostβs eyes bored into his. he didnβt say anything, but he took in the reality of the words. yes, it was obvious. but he was too caught up in his head to swallow his pride, so in that moment he shouted harsh words at you and left you there- on the ground, death almost caging you in.
soap noticed his silence, making a mental note of it- now probably wasnβt the time for questions. instead, he stood up and walked over to the other man. βshe saved my life, lt.. just..donβt take it out on herβΒ
he then exited the room with his belongings in hand, leaving ghost to - once again- stand lonely in the middle of the room.
a persistent bright light poured through your eyelids despite them being shut. no sensations, no feelings, no pain - maybe this was heaven. but you just couldn't open your eyes to see. no matter how hard you tried to strain them apart- they wouldn't budge. it felt like you had swallowed a desert, sand clogging your airways. suddenly, a high pitched beep rang through your ears. it was a steady noise, almost like a heart beat.Β
but then, you suddenly heard a voice. or- voices, multiple people were talking. you still couldn't open your eyes- remaining clueless to your surroundings, before you finally felt a familiar sensation. fabric. a mattress under your still body. this wasnβt heaven - this was a hospital room.
the voices grew closer, the words almost making sense in your brain. βeyes- openβ were the only english words you were able to decipher. you almost wanted to scream, youβd been trying to open your eyes already and youβd grown frustrated by your little efforts. you persevered though, finally getting your eyes to snap open into the world.
immediately, you regretted it. the burning ceiling lights gave you a rapid headache as soon as your irises were exposed. like muscle memory, you lifted a hand up to shield your eyes, but the pain that shot up your arm made you jump. this must of got the attention of the other people in the room - the nurses- who quickly manoeuvred towards you, slipping on their gloves.
βit's alright honey, just restβ one of them said.
βs-β you tried to speak, but to no avail, motioning to the cup of water next to you instead, your eyes not missing the βget well soonβ card that sat at the bedside table. the nurse handed you the glass, guiding it to your mouth and helping you take small sips as she tilted your body upwards.
you were now sitting up, the position wasnβt the most comfortable, but how comfy could you be on a hospital bed?Β
βhow are you feeling?β another woman in scrubs asked, clipping a board to the end of the safety barrier.
βuh..β it was all you could say. you remembered what happened. what ghost had said, how he left you on the ground to suffer after you put your life at risk to rescue his team mate. however, you couldn't feel any pain- you didnβt know the extent of your injuries.
βwhat happened?β you asked, voice weak.
someone in the room sighed before speaking up. βyou were involved in a-β
βi know what happenedβ the room went silent. βsorry..i.. am i hurt?β
the nurse in the corner stood up, explaining your injuries to you before she practically had a βlightbulb momentβ running out of the room and sprinting down the hall.
your mild lulled over it for a moment. βwill i be alright?β
the woman closest to you reassured you. βof course honey, you're here now.. right?βΒ
a tiny smile grew on your face, your eyes coming down to inspect your hands. they werenβt too bad, the nurse said theyβd heal anyway- youβd just have to be careful with the gunshot wound youβd been told about.
but the door snapping open directed away your attention. ghost stood in the doorway, his eyes - ever so slightly wider - meeting yours. he watched your expression drop, and so did his heart. the tension grew in the room, it didnβt take a genius to work that out with the staring contest you and him were having across the small space.
βiβll give you guys some spaceβ the nurse said, the rest of the people in the room filling out too.Β
you didnβt have time to protest as ghost stepped forward, filling the room with his presence. you didnβt utter a word, neither did he - both as stubborn as each other. it was a contest, who would break first?
it was him.βlook-β he began.Β
βnoβ you cut him off, quickly. βjust- give me the papers or whatever and ill be off your team as soon asβ
βno, i donβt want that, angelβ his tone was calm, crossing his arms over his chest.
βreally? well it sure seemed like you didβΒ
he sighed. βyou put your life in danger, i understand the reasoning- but, it was not a smart idea-β
βexactly!β you cut him off again. βit wasn't a smart idea, it was reckless.. so.. just, kick me from the teamβ your body slumped back against the bed. youβd made the decision to run into that building with the threat of your placement being let go. βbesides, I'm sure you would of missed soap more than meβ it was quiet, almost like a whisper, but of course- ghost picked it up.
his eyes suddenly turned cold. βangel, thatβs not true and you know thatβ
βi don't care, ghost! just.. get out!β you tried to keep your tone calm, the lump rising in your throat.
he tried to point an accusing finger at you. βyou do not get to-β
βget out!β the scream that came from your throat was weak, but it made ghostβs guard drop ever so slightly.
he didnβt say another word, sharply turning on his heels and stomping away from the infirmary.
three weeks later, you were lying on your mattress ready for another restless sleep. theyβd given you the free to go about a week ago, telling you to keep off the training and to take it easy. youβd internally laughed at that. easier said than done.
ghost had been avoiding you- you were sure of it. almost every person on the base had either visited you or checked up on you, but not him. heβd been avoiding you like the plague. it was obvious. youβd see him out the corner of your eye and then he would be gone. he disappeared like a ghost.
you sighed, pulling the bed sheets up over your body. surprisingly, sleep washed over you with ease that night. your mind finally stopped racing, and your body finally relaxed. so you thought.Β
a loud crash ricocheted off the walls. the walls that were now quickly turning to ash. you looked around in a panic, spotting the familiar litter of dead bodies. the sense of deja vu immediately appearing at the front of your brain. youβd definitely been in this situation before.
but it felt different, it felt busy. it was like you were in a crowd of people- but no one was around you. your head was on a swivel trying to find an exit, the daylight was seemingly nowhere to be found.Β
the flames crackled and your voice echoed off the deteriorating walls as you tried to scream for help. but it was no use, nobody was going to save you. your arms wrapped around your body, searching for comfort. you might as well just curl up in a ball and accept your fate.
suddenly, you felt a tap on your shoulder. your body spun as fast as light, your eyes coming into view of a black glove with a familiar skull print. ghost?
your thoughts were correct as you craned your neck to look up at this person, locking eyes on his skull mask. you immediately tried to back away from him, his gaze looking sinister.
βghost!β you tried to scream, but the words died out in your throat when you watched him reach for the pocket he always kept his knife in. you shook your head franticly, trying to get your feet in line so you could sprint for your life. but you couldn't move, the soles of your shoes stuck to the ground with super glue.
the knife shone in the red and orange flames. the shine teasing you of your unfortunate ending.Β
βyou are a worthless little girlβ he started, the tears already falling from your eyes. βyou were never worthy of being on my team, never worthy of being a soldier- just a useless, little, girlβ his harsh words stung your heart, it felt like heβd already stabbed the knife right through you.Β
it spun in his hands, the cool steel of the object inching towards your throat as he circled your body.Β
βthis is what you deserveβ he shouted down your ear so loud it made your whole body lurch in fright, snapping your eyes closed as a reflex.
but nothing happened, everything stopped. the roaring of the flames were no longer present. the icy touch of his knife was no longer felt against your neck. you reluctantly opened your eyes, finding the comfort of your own room. you let out a breath you didnβt know you were holding, your heart beating at an alarming rate.
although you weren't in danger anymore, you still felt the urge to flee- so you did. jumping out of bed at lightning speed, slipping on your shoes and grabbing the nearest jacket you could find - you were out the door in seconds.
you let your feet guide you down the hall, climbing up the familiar staircase that led to the roof. the door protested when you pushed it open, the noise alerting the presence of the other person up there. despite your efforts to make sure the door shut quietly, the yell that came out your mouth when you turned around sure as hell woke up the entire base.
on top of a wooden bench, almost glistening in the moonlight- sat ghost. he didnβt make a move to run away from you, so you didnβt make a move to run away from him either. your feet moved carefully across the roof, coming to a stop beside him. you debated it for a second, before finally deciding to sit down next to him.Β
you swallowed the lump in your throat before speaking out into the night. βi havenβt seen you in a whileβ
he was silent. for a moment you thought he was asleep, before his body turned to face you. he didnβt miss the way you tried to sink back into yourself at his movement.Β
βwhat are you doing here so late, angel?β he asked, turning his head back to look at the horizon.Β
βI..uhβ you remembered the nightmare you just had, the words he spoke to you, the way he was just about to stab you. it almost made you want to flee, trying to reassure yourself that it wasnβt real- it was just a dream.Β
βdo you think I'm worthlessβ your question made him snap his head around so quickly that you thought he might've broken his neck.Β
βexcuse me?β he asked, slightly shocked at the question. his mind racing a million miles trying to think of where you could have possibly gotten that idea from.
that made you turn away in shame, cursing yourself for asking such a question. βsorryβ you internally cringed.
he just sighed, pulling a packet of cigarettes from his pocket, retrieving one from the box and sparking its end. with the other hand, he lifted the bottom of his mask up. youβd seen his face before, but he looked perfectly sculpted in the moonlight. he took a drag before holding it out to you.
you glanced from the cigarette back up to his eyes, he gave a silent nod in reassurance, your hand reaching down to grab it from him. but as you were bringing it up to your lips, he spoke again.
βi donβt think youβre worthlessβ his tone was believable, you couldn't tell if his words helped your shoulders to relax, or if it was just the nicotine swimming into your lungs. you stayed silent though, preferring to sit with a quick nod of your head. βi think youβre.. strong, courageous, honestly kidβ¦ your one of the best soldiers goingβ
you chuckled, handing the cigarette back to him. βreally?βΒ
βyeah, pet.. reallyβΒ
it was hard to miss the spark of electricity that jolted through your body when your fingers grazed his, your cheeks suddenly began to blush. he just stared at you, the cigarette limp between his fingers. the eye contact was intense, the tension rising.
you subconsciously moved closer to him, his eyes flickering down to your lips. you were so close you could feel his hot breath fan your skin, your noses almost touching. it was him that made the first move, closing the gap between you and placing his lips on yours.
the kiss was heavenly, your lips moving in sync with his. you moved closer towards him, swinging a leg into his lap. he grabbed onto your hips, grinding you down ever so slightly as the kiss turned more passionate. you moaned into his mouth, making him squeeze your hips even harder.
but, you pulled away, placing your hands on the side of his face, bodies slotted together as you both sat there, panting.Β
βghost..β you murmured.Β
βyou know what else i think about you?β he whispered into the night.
βwhat?β you asked, resting your forehead against his.
βi think your pretty fuckinβ sexyβ he said, indulging your lips into another steamy kiss.
βi need you..β you whined into his mouth a couple of seconds later. he froze his movements, pulling away. your mind raced with the thoughts that youβd fucked it all up.
βare you..sure?β he asked, wearily.
βplease..β it was a pathetic whine, but it soon turned into a squeak as he hurled your whole body up, your legs wrapped around his waist, and began the walk to your bedroom. you giggled into his shirt, forcing him to shush you in fear you could be caught wrapped around your lieutenant at an ungodly hour in the morning.
he opened the door with ease- thanks to you not locking it before you left. his feet took two long strides over to your bed, throwing you down on the mess of blankets and duvets. his figure was hovering over you in an instant, your lips connecting again. he slipped his tongue into your mouth, the two muscles fighting each other for dominance as his hands began to wander down your body.

everything was goingΒ fine. it was an easy mission really- go in, sweep the building, grab the intel and then get the fuck out of there.Β simple... is what you tried telling yourself.Β
it was just you and ghost - a good duo on the surface, but god if they knew what was going on inside. god if they knew how the tall man in a skull mask made your heart race- but not from fear, from something else.
safe to say- you hoped your silly little crush hadn't got out and made its way back to him. you so desperately prayed you hadn't told soap one night while you two had one too many - everyone knows the scottish man could not keep his mouth shut- even if it was stapled together.
simple. simple. simple.Β you kept repeating it in your head, hoping that maybe it might manifest itself into existence. this mission was going anything but simple. your location was compromised, and while ghost was shouting at you to move your arse along - the usb you'd stuck in the computerΒ just wouldn't budge.Β
a firm hand planted on your shoulder startled you, but your reflexes kicked in and your elbow went flying towards the unknown source behind you. unfortunately, they were quicker and grabbed your forearm before you could hit. their arms wrapped around your biceps and pulled you backwards. now you were being dragged backwards down an unknown hallway, with no weapon and no ghost -Β fuck.
the whole building was dark, you didn't even know what direction you were facing. so much for a simple mission. you began to panic. your limbs slashed around, hoping for a chance to escape their hold and make a run for it. your legs suddenly stopped moving, and you then realised the person holding you had stopped in their tracks. you were pressed flush against their chest, the rise and fall was oddly grounding , enough for you to realise where you were.
it was a tiny little storage closet- great. not only were you practically kidnapped, but you were trapped and you had absolutely no idea where ghost was. now, the person behind you had released their grasp on your arm. taking this as a chance to escape, you cautiously turned around.
then you were at eye level with the person's chest - god they were tall. from the dark, you could make out a vest - a tactical vest, just like the one ghost wears.Β wait a minute,Β ghost?Β your eyes quickly peeked up to where this man's face would be.
lo and behold, staring right back at you, was a skull mask. you let out a breath of relief. "oh my god, ghost" you whisper-shouted. "what the fuck was th-" a gloved hand across your mouth cut you off.
again, your reflexes forced your hand up to his arm, clawing his jacket ever so slightly. you stared into his eyes - empty like always, they bored into yours. it made your heart race, if you were being honest. you feel like a little school girl - you felt giddy. god did that only increase when he leaned forward towards your ear.Β
"shut the fuck up" he snarled.
your eyes widened - in disbelief? in question? you really didn't know- but the waves of his voice travelled right between your legs, forcing you to squeeze your thighs together. he was so close, the limited space in the closet forced you even closer together. his back was against the opposite wall, and yours was pressed up against one behind you - but you still managed to bump against his chest.Β Β
his arms crossed against his front. he looked so- laid back? how was he so relaxed in this situation? you couldn't lie- he did look hot. you would have pounced on his bones if it weren't for the predicament you two were in.Β all you wanted to do was-
the snap of fingers broke you out of your trance. there was no longer a hand covering your mouth, so you took advantage of this and leaned up on your tip toes to talk to him.Β
"what's going on?" you whispered right by where you presumed his ear was under the mask.
he didn't respond, just looked at you out the corner of his eye. you felt the rise and fall of his heavy chest stop suddenly and every bone in your body went ridged. strong, booted footsteps marched past the door. your head turned slightly, hoping to catch ghost's eye to get light on what do to next in this situation. instead, he pushed half his body weight on top of you - sending you flying into the wall behind you, a quiet squeal leaving your lips.
a deep growl slipped out of his mouth as he once again brought his gloved hand up to your chin, tilting your head ever so slightly. fabric was felt on your ear -Β his mask. he was so close to you that you could feel warm air against your flushed cheeks. you could feel the hard plastic of his vest digging into your collarbones.
it was then you realised how much bigger he was than you. how he could squeeze you into nothing so easily. you wondered what he would feel like on top of you - in bed. he was practically on top of you now- all your scenes were invaded by him, you could smell him, you could feel him, you could almost taste him.
your little daydream didn't last long when the low tone of his voice bought you back down to the predicament you'd got yourself into.Β
"stay quiet" he warned - accentuating his words. you gulped, swallowing down the lump in your throat. it was just the waiting game now. but he was just so close. he was right there. you could easily reach out and grab him.
but he beat you to it.
the same rough fabric of his glove placed itself on your waist. he began rubbing slow circles into your skin. it was so little touch but to you - but you'd been craving it forever. his left hand continued roaming, but his right hand retracted from your chin. fabric rustled in your ear- you didn't know what, too busy focusing on the hand roaming your abdomen, until a warm breeze landed right below your ear - making your thighs clench together again, secretly hoping he didn't notice
oh. you realised.Β he's pulled his mask up. his hot lips landed back on your neck, a shiver ran down your spine at the action- making you arch your back onto him. his breath hitched at that- you heard it, with his mouth being so close to your ear. his lips began to wander down your neck, his teeth ever so slightly nipped at the skin - making your knees weak and your hands wander over his shoulders for support.Β
outside the door, a loud crash forced your eyes to open and your body froze.Β shit,Β you'd got so distracted by what ghost was doing you'd forgotten the situation at hand. speaking of - what the fuckΒ wasΒ ghost doing.Β
"ghost" you whined, dragging out your words. but your whining came to an end when he grabbed your hips abruptly and spun you around - so now your back was flush against his chest and your front on the wall. a quiet whimper fell through your lips as you felt his mouth against your ear again.
"stay. quiet" he said again - through gritted teeth. so - you did. but he had you held so close to his front, you could feel the muscles in his thighs pressed against you. it was so distracting, it was making your head spin. if one of those men on the other side of the door were to get you now- lord knows you'd die happy.
but your little fantasy was soon coming to an end when the heat of the man behind you disappeared. you turned, furrowing your eyebrows in confusion. when you were finally facing him - you'd realised he'd pulled his mask down. he brought a finger to his lips, mimicking a shushing motion. instead of elaborating, he just flicked his head and walked out of the tiny room.
you stood there as he left - helpless, with your jaw dropped open. in shock? disbelief? this was so stupid.Β stupid. stupid. stupid.Β you repeated it in your head - bringing your palm up to smack your forehead.Β shit - what had you gotten into.
it was late now. the mission had finished hours ago, after you managed to grab the intel. you had sat across him on the way back to base, but he never said a word - hell he never even looked in your direction. the sun had set over the clouds and everyone on the base had gone back to their respective rooms. but you found yourself stood outsideΒ hisΒ room. you needed to talk to him.
you shifted your weight onto your other foot - swaying a bit. you just couldn't bring yourself to knock on the door. you couldn't bring your hand up to tap on the wood. luckily, you didn't have to - your shadow moving must of alerted him because the next thing you know- his booming voice travelled through the door.
"the doors unlocked" you froze on the spot - not knowing what to do. your arms felt like jelly as you found the courage to twist the handleΒ - pushing open the door. you didn't dare look up - didn't dare look into the room. instead, you stared at the ground, finding more interest in your feet.
both of you were quiet for a moment. how long - you couldn't tell. it was almost like a stand off. like he was a lion and you were, well -Β food. like a predator hunting his prey.
that's exactly what it felt like when you saw his shadow appear in front of you, his boots in your eye-line. he cleared his throat, the noise sounding quiet over your loud heartbeat rushing through your ears. alas - you looked up, ever so slowly.
you met his eyes. he was standing right in front of you, with his arms crossed and his legs slightly apart. you'd only been looking at him for a second but your neck was already starting to cramp. you swallowed down the lump in your throat, preparing to speak.
"s-sir" it came out weak, and you stammered.Β fuck - now I've made a fool out of myself.
his chest was steady, he wasn't affected at all by this.Β stupid cocky bastard - how does he get to stand there so smug, while my legs practically turn to jelly at his door.Β your eyebrows downed- unknowingly- but his baritone voice broke your trance.
"comin' in then?" he stated it like it was obvious. like you were his friend knocking at his door - stopping by for a drink or something. but no- that wasn't happening, and you timidly shuffled past him and into the room.Β
the room was practically empty. he just had the necessities, still slightly nicer than yours though. his shadow was cast with a dimly lit lamp in the corner. it looked old, and the bulb was going out- but it was bright enough for you to see what was going on. for you to see the way he slowly turned his body around to face you - who was now standing practically helpless in the middle of the room.
"um..sir, i-" the feeling of concrete and a hand around your neck cut you off. for the second time- you'd been pushed into the wall by this man, whose long legs took him across the room in milliseconds- catching you off guard.
he leaned in closer. "yeah?" he was taunting you now, and it was working. you didn't know what to say, or what to do. you didn't know how to feel. scared? calm? aroused?
you didn'tΒ knowΒ what to feel- but you certainlyΒ knewΒ what you felt.Β
he knew it too. he'd felt the warmth rush in your body. he'd felt your pulse rise- with his hands being placed around your neck. he felt the ways your thighs clenched- that's how close he was. he knew what he was doing to you- and there was no way in hell he was stopping now.Β
"wha'chu come to tell me, huh" the hand around your throat squeezed slightly harder at his words. your body reacted before your brain could- and you arched up into him. he chuckled at this. the sound came from the very back of his throat, vibrating through your whole body.
you opened your mouth to speak. although, it was hard with his hand around your neck. so he generously moved his hand away - only to rest it on your right cheek. the cool pads of his fingers felt strange on top of your warm skin - you realised he didn't have his gloves on anymore, but he still had that stupid balaclava on. you noticed when he dipped his head into your neck - like he'd done earlier.Β
the added sensation of the cloth over your pulse point drove you crazy. all you needed was him. it was the only word your brain could think of.Β him. him. him.Β he'd barely even touched you and you were already aching for him.
"g-ghost" you stuttered out weakly, grabbing the back of his neck desperately. he caught onto this, catching both your hands in one of his large ones quickly. he stared down at you- brown eyes boring into yours, making you feel like an ant under his gaze.Β
he pinned your hands against the wall - trusting you to keep them there and moved his fingers down your body. you let your head fall against the wall- the feeling of his fingertips driving you into euphoria. his fingers moved over your lower stomach - grazing above the edge of your shorts. they slowly sunk into the waistband- making you snap your eyes open.
it was then you realised he was now on his knees. his mask was pulled up over his mouth - exposing his lips. god, you wanted to kiss him so badly. but instead of kissing your lips, his mouth found its way to your inner thighs. he hooked your right leg over his shoulder - his gaze boring into you. no words were said, the only sounds in the room were your heavy breathing, and the wet sounds of his mouth kissing and nipping on your inner thigh.
his teeth dug into the skin - forcing a hiss sound out of your mouth, but only for his tongue to soothe over it a second later. "f-fuck ghost" you whimpered, hands falling loosely at your side. "do something" it was more of a whine than a demand, but nonetheless, he hooked his fingers into your shorts and slid them down your legs.
there you were left - slouched against his bedroom wall, in nothing but panties and a shirt, that was three sizes too big, whilst he was crouched down on the floor in front of you.
"is this what you want?" he almost growled, as his thumb hovered over your wet panties. "answer me" his tone was demanding.
"yeah" it came out in a whisper - not trusting yourself to use your words "please". he hummed at this, pushing his thumb slightly forward, finally resting it over your aching clit.Β
your hips bucked automatically, even from such little pressure. his thumb moved in slow circles over the fabric, teasing you. "more" you demanded. he chucked from underneath you.
"is tha' all you got, huh? c'mon, you can do better than that"Β
a small whine broke out your lips at his words. he was asking you to beg - but you could hardly form a coherent thought. "please, please please" it spilled out of your mouth like a prayer - the only words you could think of in that moment.
"really?" he teased. "I've barely even touched ya, and you've already gone dumb"Β
"please, ghost, i need more please-" your rambling cut off as he slipped your soaked underwear to the side and blew gently on your clit. the action made you peel your back off the wall- arching into him. he shifted slightly - hiking your leg up even higher so he could get a perfect view of your aching sex.
"fuck" it came out in a low groan. you almost didn't hear him from the way your heart was rushing in your ears. "god your fuckin' soaked, so pathetic" he scoffs. " how long you've been thinking of this for, hm?"Β
"how long have you had dreams about me filling up this sweet little cunt, huh sweetheart?" he was teasing. he knew the effect he had on you. he could tell by your body language - you always left your self open. he saw how you never met his eyes, how you always seemed to shrink down when he was in the room. he knew everything.Β cocky bastard.
finally, he placed a wet kiss on your swollen clit. your knees nearly gave out with relief as he began to swirl his tongue around and around. "f-fuck" you stuttered, bringing your hand down to grab onto his hair through the fabric of his mask. the action admitted a groan from his mouth, the vibrations making you feel dizzy.
little whimpers and pants left your mouth as he flicked his tongue around the senstive bud, nipping and biting ever so often. lewd, wet noises filled the empty space of the room. your slick started to spill on your thigh as he pulled you closer and closer to your orgasm.
your eyes made contact with his. "come on" he mumbled against you. "come for me, sweet girl, come on".Β the vibrations of his voice were enough to send you over the edge, the feeling of your release washing over you, making you feel dizzy.Β
he pulled away and stood tall to his full height again, looking down at you. his chin was covered in your juices, reflecting off the dim light. a small smirk rested on his face as you stood there catching your breath.
you didn't even get a word out before he slammed his lips onto yours. the kiss was messy, his tongue fighting for dominance in your mouth while you could taste yourself on his lips.Β
eventually, he managed to manoeuvre you onto the bed, you didn't even realise until your back hit the firm mattress. it wasn't the most comfortable thing, but it will do.
"please" you whispered between kisses. "want you, please, so bad".
"yeah? tell me what you want"
you stumbled over your words again "i-i don't know please just, i just want you"Β
he groaned, moving your arms above your head so he could slip off your t-shirt. another groan leaving his mouth at the sight of your tits. his hot tongue licked a path from the edge of your panties, all the way up to your breasts .
he took one in his mouth. swirling his tongue around the sensitive nub and pulling away with aΒ pop, watching the way your nipples hardened in the cool air. he did the same with the other one, meanwhile, you were getting impatient.
you tried to push him away, but he was too strong. alas, he got the memo and chuckled ever so slightly. "greedy girl".Β
his large hands ripped your panties off you in a second. but before you could protest his middle finger came down to tease your entrance. "gotta work you open first, love"
he inserted a finger, then a second. they practically slid inside with how wet you were. your hands scrambled for a grip on the sheets as your back arched off the bed. his fingers worked inside of you, stretching you out in preparation. but just as you were about to have your second orgasm, he pulled away his fingers. in response, you whined loudly, but he was quick to shush you with a finger to your lips.
"the next time you'll come is on my cock, okay?" you clenched around nothing at his words.Β
his thumb pulled down your bottom lip, then his wet digits shoved their way into your mouth. "suck" he commended, and you did just that. swirling your tongue around his fingers just like he did with your clit.Β
"shit, baby look at you, gone all dumb already"Β
"fuck" he dragged out his words. "i need you so bad baby, do you want this?"Β you nodded your head. "no princess, use your words"Β
"yeah" it was a breathy whisper, but it was enough for him to continue his actions.
he sat back on his knees, pulling his joggers and boxers down just enough so his cock sprang free. your eyes widened at the sight. he wasΒ big.
"g-ghost i-, not gonna fit"Β
"yeah?" he was back at your ear again, hovering over you. he had your legs around his waist and his cock resting over your clit.
"you think so?" he taunted, rubbing his dick up and down your pussy, coating his tip in your wetness.Β
"your so wet baby i think i could just slip right in"
you went to protest, but the head of his cock slipped just past your entrance, cutting off any thought that came into your head.Β
"you think i'm not gonna fit huh?" he sunk into you deeper. "well guess what princess" he grabbed your jaw, forcing you to look him in the eyes.
"i'm. gonna. make. it. fit" at every word he slid deeper and deeper inside of you, until he bottomed out. the groan that came out his mouth nearly made you cum on the spot, his tip kissing your cervix.
"you see baby, I'm all the way in" he captured your lips in a kiss again, moving ever so slightly in and out of you, trying to distract you from the slight pain of him stretching you out so much.
eventually, the pain turned to pleasure and he began to move faster, pulling back from your lips to look at where you two were connected. a curse slipped from his mouth when he noticed the blunt head of his cock poking through your stomach.
"shit baby, look" he brought your hand up to the bulge. "you feel that, i'm right in your guts". the moan that slipped from your lips was pornographic, you were sure that the whole base would have heard, but that was the least of your worries right now.
he pressed his hand into your stomach, making you arch off the bed in pleasure, the slats creaking under the pressure. the dull thump of the headboard against the wall definitely wokeΒ someoneΒ up, but the only thought you had in that moment was how close you were getting.
"ghost, please, I'm so close"Β
"yeah?" he panted "close already baby? pathetic" he chuckled, your whimpers and moans bouncing off the walls of the room, the sound of skin slapping probably echoed down the hallway.
"well what do you say then baby" his rough fingers travelled down to your clit. "you wanna come? beg for it"
you gasped as his thumb rubbed small circles on your swollen bud. "oh my g-god, please. please let me come ghost,Β fuck,Β please please"
he groaned again. "come on then baby, come for me, milk my cock like the good slut you are..Β shitt"
you finally reached your peak, your body shaking and your vision going white for a moment. you could hardly feel the hand he slapped over your mouth to keep you from screaming.
your gummy walls clenching his cock were enough to tip him over the edge, his abs tightening and a groan slipping out of his mouth as he came inside of you. his thick white cum painting your insides. he pulled out slowly, causing a hiss from him and a whimper from you.Β
he took your face in his hands as you came down from your high, your vision clearing up enough to look him in the eyes. you stared into his brown orbs for a while, just thinking.
fuck... what had you gotten yourself into.

Hi honey! I don't know if u r taking requests right now but if you do I have one. Can you make a standalone where Ghost and F/reader are together for like 1/2 year(s) and she is always like really nervous around Ghost and can't look him in the eye for too long because she is really shy and Ghost kind of like the effect he has on her. Something along that way :)
Thank you so much and have a great day!!π€

anyone would be nervous if a 6β4 buff military man locked eyes with you. right? possibly- but does knowing him for 4 years make it any better? does dating for two of those years help? nope. looking this hunk of a guy in the eyes didnβt get any less nerving, even after knowing him for so long.
the way he trapped you under your gaze made you nervous. it made your fingers drum against your cargo pants -it made your heavy boots tap on the concrete. he must know, he gave it away by the way he held his stare- not daring to look away. he knew it made you nervous- he knew it made you weak in the knees. maybe if you could look him in the eyes for longer, youβd see the glimmer in them when your eyes drifted down and your face went hot.
the first time he noticed- it was a team briefing. you were sat across from him, he was looking at you- as always- and he began to zone out. he admired your face- your beauty. the way you chewed on your cheek in concentration as you listened carefully to the orders price was giving out . he was lucky to have someone like you in his life. someone to trust, someone to kiss, someone to hug.
at first- he didnβt notice he was staring at you. but when price slammed something onto the table - most likely harder than he intended to - it snapped him out of his trace. he was confused- to say the least- he didnβt understand the ways your eyes were darting all over the placeβ¦ until he did.
your fingers - which were resting against the table - were fighting against each other and your knee was bouncing at a particular pace. he knew it was yours- the table was rocking and soap - who was sitting on his right -Β was completely still. as for gaz, he was sat, on a chair, away from the table, why? god knows - but that left you.
Β he understood now- you were nervous. why? because you were caught under his gaze.
that moment, he was thankful for the mask. it hid the smirk on his face. well- not that you could look for long enough to see it. he was still staring at you- he realised. maybe he should stop. let you focus. so he, thoughtfully, looked away- though not before taking one last glance, just for fun.
the second time, heβd actually forgotten. you were all cramped into a little plane, on the route to a mission. soap was squashed up beside you, practically locking you into the wall. ghost, however, was facing you, the tip of his boots pressed against yours. he was looking at soap, who was waffling about god knows what- it was always hard to keep up with what the scot was saying.
you- were also listening. just not so intensely. you didnβt bother to turn your body to look at soap, you couldnβt, he had you trapped against the wall. so, you had to look straight ahead. right at ghost.
you did your best to avoid his eyes. you stared at the wall of the plane, his vest, the badge on his jacket - hell even his gun. but you found yourself staring back into his eyes. you loved his eyes- you did, even if it didnβt seem like it. you loved the way they sparkled in the sunlight- the way they lit up when you walked into a room. but you just couldnβt maintain eye contact.
he tried to listen to soap- for a change - he really did, but eventually, the man became a buzzing in his ears. so he turned his attention back to you. as soon as his eyes began to move, so did yours. you looked away as quickly as possible- deciding the marks on the floor were much more interesting to look at.
ghost, although hidden by the mask, raised an eyebrow at this. again, he didnβt understand why. he racked his brain for the memory or the reason. oh. right.
the corners of his lips perked up, and he kicked his foot against your boot. he watched your eyebrows furrow, and your teeth gnaw at your bottom lip. he kicked again, and again until you were forced to look at him. he was having far too much fun for a man about to head onto the battlefield.
you- on the other hand. god, this was the furthest thing from fun you could imagine. he was your boyfriend for christβs sake. you hoped he would never notice. the height difference between you two always meant you stared directly at his chest and you almost always sat next to him.Β maybe you cold try look at him, just once more.
so the next minute- you were staring right into his eyes. maybe a couple of seconds passed, you could already feel your face getting hot, your fingers start to twitch against your knee. fuck sake. you caved in again, looking away.Β
and you swear you heard the faintest sound of a deep chuckle come from him.

silence. silence was all that was heard outside the walls of the old abandoned log house you and ghost were currently hiding out in. heavy sheets of snow cover the pathways in the mountains and any way out of the place. it absorbed the sound - and maybe to some people that would be comforting - but to you, it was anything but that.Β
constant pain burned through your arm, ringing up to your ears, silence was anything but what you needed right now. you probably couldn't hear a rocket launch up here, let alone a car - or a gunshot, a silenced one - straight through the window and right between your eyes.
the thought alone sent a new wave of shocks through your body. it made you wanna haul up your numb limbs and go and sit on the other side of the small, dingy room - so you did just that. you glanced over at ghost - who was knelt on the floor, lighting the fire so both of you could relish in some warmth, and begin moving. your arm stayed snug against your chest - the same arm that had attained an injury hours before.
your very first injury. youβd barely missed the bullet, but it grazed through the space between your upper arm and your tactical vest leaving a buzzing pain in its wake. it made your fingers tingly and your muscles lock up but you pushed this aside. itβs fine - youβd said to yourself - itβs only a graze. the climb up the mountain hadnβt been easy but you and ghost had managed - just barely. he thought he might have had to carry you at one point, but your stubbornness wouldnβt allow it.Β
therefore, you could manage another 20 minutes while he lit up the fire - right?Β
wrong. if pushing yourself off the floor was a struggle- what else couldnβt you do?Β
come on. get up, get up. βfuckβ the words burned up in your throat and spilt their way out your mouth. it made ghost pause his actions, and his head snapped around at an alarming pace. he got up wordlessly and stared at your figure. your eyes were snapped shut and your head was braced back against the wall. though, your left arm was still snug against your chest.Β
he kicked weakly against your leg. you sat up with a big gasp- your eyes wide and ur skin flush.
βsunshineβ his deep voice echoed into the room and shot straight through your bones - a warning? a question?Β
βwhatβs the matter?βΒ
dark eyes bore into yours, like a night sky without any stars - without any planets, without anylife. like a black hole- like if you were to look at them for too long theyβd suck you in, to an abyss - to nowher-
βsunshineβ he bellowed out. the sheer power of his voice snapped you out of your trance.
dropping your head, you suddenly became very aware of the lump in your throat, the wet globs threatening to spill out your eyes and down your face. you couldnβt cry in front of him - your lieutenant. it would make you look weak, like a little girl shrivelled up the wall in pain.Β
βghostβ you whispered down into your lap. when he didnβt reply you looked back up again, thatβs when the first tear fell. nothing changed in his eyes - that you saw anyway. maybe if the tears werenβt blurring your vision you would have seen the way his eyes softened, ever so slightly.
βit hurts, sirβΒ
you pressed your back further into the wall, trying to ground yourself, to distract yourself from the scorching pain in your arm. maybe you were being weak, it was just a graze after all - but it was your first injury on the job so he could let you off, right?
a deep sigh came from the man above you. βget up, sunshineβ
βi-i can'tβ you choked on your words.Β
βfucking hellβ were the last words he muttered. you assumed he was walking off, by the gruff sigh that came after his words, that he was going back to what he was doing before and leave you there- alone, in pain against the wall. but when you felt the weight of your gear drop off your body, your eyes shot back open to see his gloved hands working at the clasp.Β
βw-what?β at this point you were utterly confused. what was he doing? your thoughts still werenβt answered when you felt a firm arm snake under your knees and another rest on the curve of your back. then suddenly, you were in the air. he had lifted you up, like you weighed nothing, like a feather. not even a huff came out of his mouth. it scared you- how he could do that - how he could easily grab the crown of your head and snap your neck. how he could easily throw you off the top peak of the mountain you were on.
but no- he didnβt do any of that. instead, he carried you over to the nearest chair and sat you down. the pain in your arm suddenly blossomed again, and you squeezed your eyes shut in pain.Β
βwhat are you doing ghostβ you winced.
βhelpingβ he held his hand out, laying on his palm was a little blue tablet. βtake it, it will help with the painβΒ
with no less questions, you reached out your right arm, popped the tablet in your mouth and swallowed.Β
βbit gullible, could of been anything i just handed youβ
βshut upβ you groaned. βiβll take anything if it will help this fuckin painβ.Β he turned his back again and went back over to the fire. you were bewildered- but alas, sat there anyway. it was much comfier than the floor.
maybe 20 minutes had passed. by then your arm didnβt hurt anymore, it just felt warm, and so did the atmosphere. in the corner, ghost had managed to light the fire -it produced a bright orange glow into the room and combined with the buzzing bulb above your head, it provided a nice light.
you could see the house now. it looked like it had once been a home- there was a board covering the whole right side of the shack. an avalanche - you guessed. it didnβt seem like there was any other furniture in the room, there were a few paintings on the walls. but they looked strange- they were blurry, so you squinted your eyes to get a better look.
thatβs when you remembered the scorching hot pain in your arm that you didnβt feel anymore. huh?Β
two black boots came into your eyeline - ghost stood, towering over your sitting position in the chair. βghost!β your tone was cheerful. maybe too cheerful for what was happening- but nonetheless, ghost rolled his eyes and came to kneel beside you. he had a little green bag in his hands, and you couldnβt help but question. βwha-β
βitβs a med kit sunshine, iβm gonna patch you upβ he cut you off before you could even get your first syllable out. you pinched your brows at him, he still towered over you- even in his kneeling state- it almost made you retract, almost.
you huffed, leaning back in the chair, it creaked under your weight as you shuffled to get slightly comfortable. he reached out for you- he didnβt have his usual gloves on, you noticed. his hands were calloused and rough, a few scars littered here and there. but what really caught you off guard was how cold they were.Β
when his fingers pressed against your arm- you flinched. not because it hurt, but because of the sudden temperature difference on your burning skin. the chill of them sent a shiver down your spine. it made goosebumps rise on your skin.Β
βfuck ghost, are you cold?βΒ
βnoβ
βwhy are your hands so cold then, godβΒ
he grunted at you and reached back into the small green bag to get out a little white bottle - then dabbed it with cotton wool. you were curious.
βwhat's tha- ow!β you flinched away as he pressed the cotton to your wound. βwhat the hell ghost, that hurtβ. you sat back, with a pout playing on your lips. he continued to wipe your graze- and you continued to try and shuffle away from him - his patience was running thin.
βsunshineβ he grabbed onto your wrist. βstay fuckinβ stillβ you couldnβt see his face- only his eyes- but the strain in his voice gave away he was gritting his teeth. you rolled your eyes.
βwhatever, just hurry upβ
once again he said nothing, just letting his eyes linger on you ever so slightly longer while he fished back into the bag for a gauze. at this point you were getting bored- why couldnβt it be over already? it didnβt hurt anymore, what was the point?
βghosstttβ you whistled. he didnβt answer. βghostβ more firm this time- still, he didnβt even bat an eyelid. you groaned. βghost i swearβ still nothing.
βfineβ you huffed, crossing your arms and sitting back in the chair. this made him swiftly reach out for your arm, grabbing onto your wrist and pinning it down to the chair.Β
βkeep. stillβ it was a warning- you should of followed- he was your lieutenant after all. but you choose not to, the pain medication was obviously doing a number on your brain.
βohh, so he does talkβ
silence. again. you sighed, and let him work- just for a minute though. βwhatβs your name ghostβ now you were staring at the ceiling, counting the tiles.Β
βshut up sunshine, fucking hellβ you gasped, sitting back up, offended at his tone.Β
βi just wanted to know your name, asshole. donβt need to be rudeβ you went back to staring at the tiles again, seemed much easier.Β
he finished a couple of minutes later. maybe it was five- maybe it was ten, you lost track. he had wrapped a bandage around your arm, it was secure but not too tight to where it would cut your circulation off. you hummed contentedly, and decide to stare holes into the back of his head.
ghost could feel your gaze on him, it was bugging him. like that pesty fly that you just couldnβt catch. but you werenβt annoying- or a fly. ok, maybe you were a bit annoying- but he could stand you - he could trust you.Β
βsimon. my name's simon riley.β
anything to shut you up

the one day a year the man with the scary skull mask dreaded. the day that only came every 12 months. the day that only one man on the task force knew about. his birthday.
he usually avoided it, and disappeared all day, like a ghost. he did this every day, no one batted an eyelid. but when the team got you a tiny little cupcake with a candle for your birthday, you began wondering.
youβd wished soap a happy birthday before, and gaz and even overhead laswell wishing price one. but never the mysterious man who hides behind a mask and lurks in the darkness any chance he gets. so one day you bought price, a gift. some cheap alcohol that you managed to get your hands on. you gave it to him after a mission, claimed it was for his good work and that he needed a wind down- but really, your present was anything but that.Β
he accepted it, gratefully, and you both sat on a little table in the meeting room sharing said bottle as the stars twinkled through the glass windows. the alcohol burned your throat, and you winced at the sensation as you lugged it back. you didnβt have another sip after that, and your plan started working. words spilt out of his mouth, faster than his brain could comprehend, you assumed anyway.
the question bubbled up in your throat. ask him, cβmon he wonβt remember in the morning. β
soβ you began. βyou ever seen his faceβ. his brows furrowed. βyou know, the big scary man with that maskβ.Β
βohβ he perked up. βyeah.. yeah, not for ages though, but he-β. his words blurred in your head, and you nibbled your lips before you asked the question.
βwhenβs hisβ the attention shot back to you as you spoke again. βwhenβs his birthday?β. he chuckled, and finally answered your burning question.Β
βbut, kid. donβt tell anyoneβ he gave you a pointed look. you giggled and tapped your finger to your nose twice.
βsecrets safe with me captainβ
that night you ran back to your room and hurried over to your uniform, grabbed the little sparkly pink notepad you safely had hidden away in your jacket pocket - followed by a pen you had bought as a kid on a family holiday - and scribbled down the date he had told you. sleep overpowered your thoughts about what you could give this mysterious man for his birthday.
over the next following week, you had thought of an idea. one cold night up in the snowy mountains of god knows where was all you needed for inspiration.
you remembered the feeling of his cold fingers on your arm as he patched up the bullet graze youβd received. recalling the way they prickled goosebumps onto your skin, how the chill of them went straight down your spine. how youβd asked him if he was cold and he brushed you off with a quiet grunt, a warning for you to keep quiet and let him do his job.Β
and that was all you needed. you had the perfect present.Β
the passing months you began working. making price order all these craft supplies. white paint, black paint, black wrapping paper, threads, needles, a white bow. he was confused, but he obliged anyway, anything to make you happy. hell, you even made him buy an iron, which you proceeded to steal the box it came in, which made him more confused. you poured your heart and soul into this present, and you hoped ghost could see that.
the day came around, and simon riley woke up after a wink of sleep and continued on with his normal day. but you, on the other hand, jumped out of bed at the crack of dawn, the sun barely breaking over the horizon. he picked up on this. the dirty bowl you left in the sink, the cereal youβd left out on the counter. he knew it was you, no one else would be awake this early and he knew price, who was normally up after him, never ate lucky charms, he thought the sweet marshmallows would rot his teeth.
he lost track of you then. the man who normally had his eye on everyone had lost sight of you out of everyone. the girl who always greeted everyone in the morning with a bright smile. the girl who always asked if anyone wanted some breakfast. the girl who always asked if everyone had a nice sleep. he was confused, to say the least. concerned maybe. but he was worried, you couldnβt possibly know, could you?
the afternoon rolled around, and the little box sat neatly under your bed as you prowled around the base looking for something to do. your feet brought you to the gym, where soap and gaz were training, the leather of their boxing gloves hitting against the heavy bags hanging from a hook echoed around the room.
soap saw you first, he stopped what he was doing and turned his body to face you. βlast person i expected to see in hereβ he chuckled, struggling to catch his breath.Β
this didnβt catch the attention of gaz, who was on the other side of the room with his headphones on at full volume.
you shrugged βlooking for something to doβΒ
βnot in here, lass. thought you were on bed restβ
he was right, the sprain in your wrist you had gained by hitting the punching bag at the wrong angle had put you out of missions and price had insisted you stayed on βbed restβ for a few days. he claimed it was for the best, you tried to argue your way out of it, but to no avail.
βheyβ you rolled your eyes βit's a sprained wrist, not a broken back, i donβt need bed restβ
βif thatβs what you thinkβ a smirk rose on his face, as he turned back towards the punch bag.
you sighed, admitting defeat and turning back on your heels making a b-line for your room. the door slammed behind you, accidentally, and you made a mental note to apologise to price later. you quickly lay down on the floor and stuck your arm under the bed, looking for the small, wrapped, black present youβd hidden there.
successfully retrieving the box, you sat back up into a crisscross position. the sight of the box made your heart beat just a little faster, the nerves were kicking in. youβd accepted him as a friend. but what if he didnβt think of you as that? it was a silly thought. so you reached back under the bed and grabbed the secret stash of bottles you kept right in the corner. liquid courage, you told yourself as the cheap vodka slid down your throat, leaving the tasteless burn in its wake, eyes screwed shut as you cringed at the feeling.
the next moment you found yourself outside his room. youβd hidden the box behind your back, but youβd shifted on your feet before you were able to reach for the door handle. but a gruff, deep voice bellowed out your name before you could.Β
βare you going to stand there or are you coming inβ his loud voice reached your position at the door.
βsorry, sirβ you squeaked out quietly, doubting that he even heard you.Β
the room felt.. empty. he barely had any furniture and the bed, which he sat on, fell empty in the corner. his gun was in pieces on said bed and you feared this wasnβt the best time to come. you met his brown eyes and he just stared at you, a silent question as to what you were doing standing in the middle of his room.
βuhm.. hi, sirβ you cleared your throat and stuck your hand that was behind your back out, which on it, sat the little square box that you had nicely wrapped in jet black wrapping paper and a sparkly white bow.Β
βhappy birthday?β it came out more of a question and you didnβt even know if it was still your voice talking.
his dead eyes bored into yours. they did flicker down to the present for a second. but only that second did they acknowledge it. you began to feel nervous under his stare and your eyes scrambled to focus on anything but his. you must have stood there for a minute, but the awkward silence was eating you alive. so, you decided to place the gift on the end of his bed and leap out the door.
βhappy birthday, sirβ as you closed the door softly and scurried back to your room to take a cold shower.
little did you know, 5 minutes after you left the room, ghost picked up the present. it looked tiny in his hand whilst it dwarfed yours. he sat and thought for a moment. how did you know, and why, why did you give him a present? he didnβt deserve it.Β
the gun parts forgotten on the bed next to him as he stared holes into the present. maybe it would unwrap itself, or maybe just disappear. sighing, he decided to peel back the wrapping paper
the fresh scent of sweet strawberries clung to your hair and your fresh clothes sat comfortably on your body. but your insides felt anything but comfortable. in-fact, they felt like they had been spilt out and stuffed back in carelessly. he didnβt seem to like your present. you felt anxious. you had hoped the beads of water dropping onto your skin would wash away the feeling, but it still lingered around you like a bad smell.
you sighed and tore your eyes away from your face in the mirror. it was late now, and your rumbling stomach rung in your ears. so, you decided to get something to eat.
you passed price on the way to the kitchen. the fluffy socks that clad your feet slipped on the floor slightly as you tried to speed past him. he grabbed your arm though, which saved you the embarrassment of falling flat on your face, but also you now had to face him.
βshitβ you chuckedΒ
βwhere you heading in such a rush, kidβΒ
βto the kitchenβ you smiledΒ
βok, okβ he let go of your arm. βhave u seen ghost?β
your heart started beating slightly quicker and you hoped he couldnβt hear the hitch in your breath.
βhe was supposed to-βΒ
βno captain, sorryβ you cut him off, and stumbled your way past him and to where you were originally heading. βsorry, thanks, see you laterβ.
Β you stumbled round the corner of the kitchen, knocking your hip bone into the corner of a counter in the process. then proceeded to grab your meal and sit down at the table. the room was oddly empty and it left you alone with your thoughts again. surely you were overreacting, it was a bloody present it doesnβt matter, the next time he will emerge from his room will be in 2 months and he will have forgotten by then. or maybe you could pretend like nothing happened.Β
the clattering of metal rang through the empty silence of the big room, as did the screeching of your chair as you stormed back to your room. god, you needed a rest.
and thatβs what you did. it only lasted 4 hours, and by that time it was 1 am. far too late to go back to sleep. but far too early to wake up and start your day. so you found yourself on the rooftop of the base. the withered steal door held open by some big rock soap had found, he had claimed it was valuable but the only value it had now was being a doorstop.
you chuckled at the memory and turned your attention back to the atoms in the sky. it reminded you of home, the stars. they made you feel calm, and the cool breeze of the night that was sweeping through your hair steadied your heartbeat.
the tin box you sat on suddenly shook. it almost felt like someone had sat behind you. who would be awake this late? oh.. ghost.
βyeah?β you broke the silence of the night.
βwhat are you doing out hereβ his rough voice was quieter than normal. youβd never heard the tone before, especially from him.Β
βcould ask you the same thingβΒ
he cleared his throat, which you took as a prompt to turn around. so you heaved your body around to the right to face him.Β
his face was, of course, covered but he had swapped his hard shell mask out for the black balaclava with the skull pattern laid onto it. you didnβt wanna meet his eyes, so you looked down, and thatβs when you saw them.
your present. youβd bought him simple black gloves but, they were heated. youβd also gone the extra mile to paint on a skeleton hand design, just like his old ones. youβd sealed the paint with an iron and added a special touch on the inside. in a white thread you had delicately stitched on his initials S.R. you forced him to tell you his name when he was stitching your wounds that time, he reluctantly agreed, anything to shut you up.
he must have noticed your staring because he lifted his hand up and flexed his fingers. βnice, arenβt theyβ.
you blushed and hope he couldnβt see the tinge in the low light. βshut upβ.
βi-β he started. βi like them a lot kid, thank youβ it was the most emotion heβd shown to you in the 2 years of knowing him, and it made you smile, a genuine smile.
βitβs okβΒ
βhowβd you know it was my birthday, huhβ
your smile only widened. βthatβs a secret, sirβΒ
both of you sat there for a while, the silence was comfortable. then he disappeared back down the stairs, just like a ghost.Β
safe to say, he never took those gloves off.
