Today, Crowley sheepishly approached Aziraphale-- hands behind his back, clutching a bouquet of decadent chocolate roses-- shuffled and kicked his feet awkwardly on the ground and quietly asked his angel if he would be his valentine.

Soft Dom Aziraphale

So I came across yet another comment/post (?) today about how Aziraphale just can't be a soft Dom cos he's so sweet and ridiculous and silly (I hope this is meant only in the very best most positive adoring ways) cos, hard agree, he absolutely is.

And you know what, people and other sentient beings can absolutely be more than one thing. They can be incredibly complex and nuanced and interested in a huge variety of things.

Now. Don't get me wrong. I have nothing against people who dislike any sort of D/s dynamic. That is absolutely fine. And more power to them to know what to avoid.

But to claim that Aziraphale could not be into that because his character is - not like that... or because he has traits that don't seem to work with that kind of dynamic, therefore it is completely out... is...just wrong, you know? Rubs me the wrong way.

I adore Aziraphale for his stubbornness. His bravery. His determination to try every last thing if at all possible to make things right. He is good and he always tries to do right. And when he finds out he was say, mistaken about how bodysnatching is purely bad, he is quick to admit his fault and change his mind. I admire him for all this.

I also admire him for how vulnerable he lets himself be to failure. He loves magic and is open to the possibility of failure because he thinks that possibility, the one we humans all have, is something to treasure. To admire. To strive for. He could just do a miracle, or five, or seven even. He could befuddle and blow minds at every turn. But, that's not sporting, is it?

In S2 we follow him as he strides around his neighbourhood and around Edinburgh and watch him get his way. He tempts and he raises his eyebrow and he makes promises and pretends to be a goofy daft newspaperman one moment and then he steels his gaze at two thugs in a misty cemetery who too give in and hand over what he asked for.

Aziraphale likes to get his way. Isn't that like a thing that half the fandom complains about, not noting that Crowley is absolutely on board with being wrapped around the angel's little finger? Didn't Michael and David joke about the fact the the ideal date for the two would be Aziraphale organising everything so Crowley can complain all the way through but secretly love every minute?

He admitted that he orchestrated getting into trouble because Crowley loves saving him. Which of course, most likely means, he loves being saved too. And we actually know he does.

Even if it perhaps doesn't exactly end up the way he wanted...

Aziraphale is soft and fluffy but he is a guardian, we saw him stand his own against demons and and archangels both, telling them all to shut up.

Metatron might have mocked him that he is a 'great leader' and not believing a word of it, but the funny thing is, he is.

Heaven has belittled and laughed at him all the way through aeons; he has never felt understood until he befriended Crowley who does understand and trusts him. THIS is the highest accolade Aziraphale can get. He is not forcing anybody to trust him or believe in him. But he acts in a way that they can. And Crowley does. And it means the world to them both.

And Crowley himself? Crowley fell from God's grace, something that he thinks was at least a little bit unfair. Wasn't She supposed to love him (all of them really) unconditionally? And now he has someone who does. He hates Hell who terrifies him at random points, jumps at him from TVs, barge their way into his home, his car, into his mind.

Crowley craves safety. And where is he safer than in the home Aziraphale built for them where Hell can't step into? Is it perfect? No. Not yet. But they managed with what they had. And Aziraphale resolved at the end of S2 to solve their problems once and for all or die trying and I can't wait to see how they will accomplish just that.

Finally, they will be free of the institutions that do not understand them and be free to be as they wish.

Saying because Aziraphale is soft and feminine and loves to be treasured and adored (and he does, because he was never valued or admired in Heaven and he deserves to be) that does not mean he can't also exercise his love and need to be listened to, followed, trusted, wanted, to lead.

And Crowley who Hell never cared about or needed, who backbite and deceive, torture its members and whose demons love to climb the 'ladder' over one another if they can get a chance, well all he wants is peace. Crowley who's always weary, watchful, circling his beloved, ready to grab him and run, run far away from everything; what he wants is to be needed, appreciated, loved, to be safe. And that's what Aziraphale would happily give him. Already gives him but longs to give fully.

Look. You know I love the smug bastard.

It's fine if you think they would not indulge in D/s play. Honest. But I needed to rant about how just because someone is one way sometimes, they can't be another at other times.

Also. I know there are fics where A/C are in full D/s relationship. Are they fully in character? You decide. And there are definitely fics with Dark Aziraphale which are obviously different. But a soft Dom? Come on now.

Aziraphale, knows what he wants and loves to get his way.

And they both like it.
