It absolutely made sense that Deccy’s baby brother had become a gent. He had always been a people pleaser. Especially when it came to Declan. Yet, he did seem a tad more bold these days. “I made the most of it, Ali. But I’m happy to finally be out of school and finally doing something important. It’s been a long time coming.” Deccy reached over and grabbed his brothers hand, swinging it happily as they walked down the street. “Look at us, Ali. We’ve really made something of ourselves, haven't we? And now that we’re together again, perhaps we can get our relationship on the mend. Would you like that, baby brother?”
~~~
Alistair looked cautiously over at his brother at his words. He wasn’t sure if he believed his words. Wasn’t sure he’d ever trust his brother to not simply try to take advantage of him. But he found himself reluctantly thinking about how nice it’d be to finally have someone he considered an actual brother. And not merely a persona he was expected to live up to. “I would...Would you?” Alistair mumbled as he looked the other man in the eyes.
It was a relief to find Alistair finally came back with the food. Even if Owen wasn’t all that hungry, he was starting to get fidgety. He needed something to distract himself with other than the thoughts of his father’s murder, or his responsibilities as future king, or anything else… In that regard, the young boy’s company was a blessing.
“Oh, by all means. I didn’t ask you to come all the way here with food for the two of us not to have you join me,” he added warmly, gesturing towards the other chair as indication that he expected Alistair to sit down, and to eat as well. His late father would show up in his dreams to torment him if he didn’t try his hardest to be a good host.
“Tell me, Alistair– I don’t remember an invitation addressed to your name. Are you here with someone?” he asked gently, teasingly even. “Or did you just steal away into my castle because you liked the butter bread?”
~~~
Alistair relaxed more when the other explained that he was perfectly okay with him sitting down. His parents just ran things so much more differently then he’s used to being treated. The gentleman in waiting spent so long living in his brother’s shadow and in fear of his parents that he forgot that not everyone believed in the same stuff that they did.
Alistair sat into the seat, sheepishly grinning at the other. “Thanks. My parents would have never allowed something like this to happen. Well, not to my brother anyways.” Alistair said with a chuckle. He supposed that they would likely let that happen to him. Another way to remind him that he’s not as good as his parents.
A blush formed on his cheeks and shook his head. “With-Like in-Steal away?!” The flustered boy babbled, not capable of finishing even a single sentence. He shook his head and tried to collect himself. “You’re...You’re joking.” He said, his relief clearly evident as he raised a hand to his chest. “Surely you know that I couldn’t resist the call of buttered bread.” Alistair chuckled.

It didn’t take a genius to see that Alistair had obviously been mistreated in the past. That he had probably been hurt and abused and lashed out for any little wrong doing. Is that why the man was so skittish, so afraid? Did he shy away from Matai’s touch because he had thought he was reaching up to strike him across the cheek? He wasn’t sure, but he couldn’t help but feel a twinge of sympathy. He had half a mind to have Alroy watch this man, figure out where he was from, so he could get some insight into his life. And maybe so that his parents could answer for the abuse that they obviously placed upon him.
“Some people are clumsier than others, it’s true, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t still accidents,” Matai stated as he moved to place his hands behind his back. “Tell me, have you ever contemplated taking up meditation, or a martial art? I think both would do wonders for you.” One would help calm the male, get a grip on his nerves, and the other would help him build up his coordination and learn his body. “But forgive my manners… I am Prince Matai of House Meksi, second born son to the King of Eddis… It is a pleasure.”
xxx
Alistair allowed his body to slowly relax from the tense and slightly scared state it had locked itself in as he heard the other man’s words. They sounded genuine and sincere. Perhaps Alistair was just wanting them to be, but he figured that maybe he could relax a little bit around this man. Hearing the other man’s words, Alistair sheepishly ran a hand through his hair.
“I used to try to meditate with my dad when I was younger...But he would get annoyed with me.” His mere prescence in the room, even when he wasn’t even moving or looking at his dad, was apparently a trigger enough for Alistair to be on the receiving end of another beating. “You think so?” Alistair asked, perking up slightly. Maybe it wouldn’t hurt to give them a shot? If he could find people back in Nok to help him learn the ropes of both, that is.
“It’s nice to meet you, Prince Matai,” Alistair said as he formally bowed. The one thing he had been able to do as a kid and not mess up after a few ‘lessons’ with his parents. “I am Alistair from the House of Hughes in Nok. The pleasure is all mine.”

Bazhra was looking for something to do around Nok. There was some sort of meeting in progress, but, after his official appearance, it no longer needed him. While strolling around the castle and appreciating their gardens, he heard a bright and friendly voice say, “Oh…Hey. I’ve seen you around Nok before! My name is Alistair from the House of Hughes. Nice to meet you!” In the middle of introducing himself, Alistair almost tripped. Baz quickly caught the other’s hand to help steady him. He shook it while saying, “I’ve noticed you around as well. I’m Bazhra of House Shishorin, Junior Warden of Eddis. It’s a pleasure to meet you as well.” Bazhra released Alistair’s hand once he was sure the other’s footing was steady and gave him an appraising once over. He was very cute. Adorable even. Bright eyes and that curly hair. ‘He’s certainly easy on the eyes, that’s for sure,’ Baz thought. “So what is there to do around here, Alistair”
~~~
Alistair’s cheeks flushed as he found himself almost tripping in the middle of introducing himself. Of course, he couldn’t even go eight seconds without making a fool of himself. Still this boy seemed nice and friendly, and didn’t seem annoyed at Alistair’s clumsiness. Which definitely made Alistair relax a bit more.
“It’s nice to meet you, Bazhra,” Alistair said, happy to have a name to the other man’s face. Hearing his question, Alistair considered it for a moment. “My favorite thing to do is walk through the Pardosa forest. Although normally I have an escort or someone else with me, as there are creatures who could be less than friendly. But the forest is beautiful, and you can find some rare and beautiful creatures in it.”
It was painfully obvious that Declan’s little brother was pissed off. And while that amused him, Deccy actually cared to catch up with Ali. So he’d lay off of it, for now. He’d made his point. “Again with the over dramatics. You really must calm down.” Deccy looked around for a moment before reaching out and grabbing his brother’s hand and pulling him towards the exit. Once outside, Deccy began to lead his brother down the street. “Sorry, it was far too loud in there”, he explained as they continued to walk. “I’ve been at school for the better part of a decade. How about you?”
xxx
Alistair rolled his eyes. “I don’t have to do anything you say, older brother.” Alistair mumbled as he shook his head. “Last time I checked I’m a gentleman in waiting for the royal family, not you.” He let Deccy pull him towards the exit, shrugging his shoulders. “It was alright,” Alistair said with a hum. “Just been training to be the best gentleman in waiting that I could be.” Which considering his tendency of tripping and ended up in the most embarrassing of situations? Wasn’t exactly high tier. “Did you enjoy your studies?” Alistair asked.
Honestly, Declan never quite understood why his little brother was so sensitive. Why he let things get to him the way he did. Declan couldn’t relate to that. “Awe”, Declan taunted, making an overly exaggerated frowny face. “You think this is me bullying you? I think you underestimate me, Ali.” Deccy contnued to dance, drunkenly stumbling around. “Now can you please stop being so dramtic and ruining our little reunion?”
xxx
Alistair let out a huff and wanted to point out that he was the one who started picking on him. But instead, Alistair merely took a deep breath and decided be the bigger person. “Yeah, yeah,” Alistair mumbled, obviously his feelings were still a little hurt. “I can tell that you missed me so much.” Alistair said with a snort and a roll of his eyes. “What have you been up to, other then your little promotion?”
Alistair was simply trying his best to stay out of the way and to not make a fool of himself. Alistair is likely the biggest klutz most people have ever seen, and seemed to mess up almost everything. So he tried to find some place where he didn’t do too much damage. He was simply walking around since he had already been dismissed for the day. But he suddenly saw a familiar face.
“Oh...Hey. I’ve seen you around Nok before!” Alistair said, youthful face lighting up in a smile as he stumbled towards the other. Looking almost like an energetic puppy. “My name is Alistair from the House of Hughes. Nice to meet you!”
This is what Deccy lived for. Seeing the rise he got out of people. Sure, it was sick and twisted. But a part of his nature, nonetheless. “Why are you always taking everything to heart?” Declan couldn’t stop himself from smiling, even though he knew he had taken things too far. “You’re not a little kid anymore, Alistair. It’s time to grow up.“ Declan took a couple step twoards his brother, placing his hands on his shoulders. "I’m helping you. Helping give you a thick skin.”
xxx
“It’s kind of hard not to when your own brother is talking about how small of a role you play.” Alistair pointed out with a shake of his head, trying to stop himself from getting overly emotional. “And don’t act like you’re doing this to help me. You’re just like them. Just like our parents. Nothing but a bully.” Alistair said with a huff.
Deccy laughed at his brother’s response. There was a hint of assurance in his voice now. Deccy liked to see people fight for themselves. Even when they clearly had no idea how. “Say it with your chest, baby brother”, he teased, nudging Alistair on his shoulder. “Well then. I’m glad to know that you’ve found your little place in this world. Never suspected you’d amount to much of anything. I mean. Not to be rude.” Deccy smiled, knowing full well that he was being insanely rude. It was just too easy.
~~~
Twirling once more in their dance, Alistair could now see his brother’s true colors shining. Now that they could whisper without prying ears. “I thought...That getting away from our parents and getting a position like this would make you into a better guy. I see that isn’t the case.” Alistair mumbled, hands going to his brother’s shoulders as he stumbled on another step. “Why are you always saying mean things like that to me?”

Alistairs issue was that he was always too cautious. He had no back bone, always letting everyone step all over him. Deccy reached out and grabbed his brother’s hands when he stumbled, noticing how nervous the younger male looked. “You mustn’t be so uptight, Ali”, he stated, rolling his eyes. “Confidence is the key!” Deccy turned around and stood up on a chair nearby and kept dancing. “I know! I’ve worked so hard for this position and it feels so amazing to finally reach my goals.” Dec had glossed over his brother’s congratulations, pride keeping him from thanking his little brother. “And you! A gentleman-in-waiting? Seems… well. Fitting.” Deccy hopped down from the chair and took Ali’s hand, forcing him to give a twirl.
xxx
Alistair flushed when his brother informed him that confidence is key. Alistair supposed that when you looked like Deccy? That was probably easy. He was the perfect son. The one everyone always wanted to be around. Nothing like his clutz of a brother. Alistair flushed more at his brother’s snide remarks, before looking down. “It’s nothing to be ashamed of. I get to help people!” Alistair said with a shake of his head. “Besides...I got my position first.” Alistair mumbled, knowing that had been a sore spot for his parents since they always thought their golden boy would be the first one from their House to catch the royal family’s eyes.

“It’s a pleasure to make your acquaintance, Alistair. I hope my beloved Newgarde has been welcoming to you,” Owen offered kindly, unable to feel some level of fondness for the young boy over how much he reminded him of his little brothers. “Well, I believe it is my right as future king to decide who deserves my kindness and I have decided you do. So, please, if you’d be so kind to fetch our food, I will be waiting for you in the gardens.”
That being said, Owen made his way outside, to the beautiful arrangement of wooden chairs and tables that served for celebrations and meals outside of the castle’s walls. He found the perfect spot under the shadow of a few acres and fixed a table with two chairs.
All that was left to do was wait for his company and food to arrive… hopefully in one piece.
xxx
Alistair laughed and nodded his head. “Oh, it’s been quite well! I wish I was here under better circumstances, but it’s a lovely place to be.” Alistair said with a nod of his head. Alistair’s cheeks flushed at Owens’ words and he nodded his head. “Alright using your power as a future king over me, huh? Alright, my highness.” Alistair said with a chuckle as he moved to go grab the supplies and food.
This time, Alistair wasn’t scrambling anywhere and managed to get everything to the gardens in one piece. He even managed to avoid tripping or stumbling until after he set the tray down, letting out a dramatic sigh of relief.
“Um...May I?” Alistair asked as he gestured to the vacant chair, not knowing if he was supposed to sit down or just stand off to the side.

It was only a matter of time before Declan would run into his baby brother. Afterall, they both worked for the royal family now. Deccy was honestly surprised that he hadn’t seen him up until now. Although, Deccy did have to travel a lot for his job. “Baby brother?”, Deccy slurred, laughing and standing up to give Alistair a hug. “Wow! I cannot believe it’s you. You - uh. You look so very grown up. Wow.” Deccy had completely ignored what the other had said, taking over the conversation as usual. “You know I work for the king, right? I mean you must’ve heard.” Deccy stumbled a little bit, not realizing how drunk he’d gotten. “Come, dance with me Ali. You little shit.” Deccy excitedly pulled his baby brother out into the room and began to perform a little jig, reaching out and ruffling his brother’s hair.
xxx
Alistair had never seen his brother like this, and couldn’t help but to think things would be wonderful if his brother stayed like this. Perhaps he could have a warden do a spell to make him feel infinately intoxicated? Still, Alistair loved his brother. It was his mother and father that he constantly fought with. Alistair huffed as the other ran his hand through Alistair’s hair. “I’ve heard, brother. Congratulations.” Alistair said cautiously, before watching his brother dance. Alistair snorted and began to dance himself, trying his best not to trip or make an embarrassment out of himself or his brother. Although he’s definitely stumbled and tripped a bit.

“I’d hardly say your pride is wounded when it seems I’m the only one who noticed your little… accident,” Owen mused, still rather baffled over this silly scene he was witnessing, but he was more endeared than he was offended considering he wasn’t even hungry to begin with. He was only eating because he had to keep up appearances.
But when the boy finally stood up and picked everything to rush back towards the kitchen, Owen stopped with with a gentle tug at his arm. The last thing they needed was more accidents because the boy was running everywhere.
“You’re… Alistair, correct?” he started. “Forgive me, I can’t seem to remember your last name. But please, do not rush back into the kitchen and trip again. Take your time. And perhaps bring a portion for yourself as well. I’d like some company for lunch in the gardens.”
xxx
Alistair let out a small sigh of relief. “Thank god...All I need is more people to pick on me and jest at my expense....” Alistair said with a small pout. He was definitely surprised that the other was being as calm as he was. It wasn’t exactly unheard of for his father to use his hand against Alistair, after all. But this man didn’t roar or strike. Instead had a gentle confidence to him, even as he stopped him from running back to the kitchens.
“That is correct,” Alistair said before nodding his head as he heard the other man’s words. “I don’t know if I deserve your kindness sir, but if that’s what you want? Then I shall do so.” Alistair said with a nod of his head and a chuckle before walking off to get the food.

Location: A local tavern, any kingdom.
Declan was the newly appointed Master of Laws in Nok and because of this, he found himself traveling quite often. The work was arduous and his favorite way to wind down after a long day was to visit a tavern and get drunk. Luckily for him, Aladonia was chock full of such establishments so it wasn’t difficult to find one wherever we happened to be. He’d never been to this particular location before but he was enjoying the atmosphere. It was loud and lively, people everywhere drunkenly dancing and carrying on. Deccy sat at the bar drinking his ale, laughing and taunting the local drunkards. “Could try a bit harder not to break the place, you bumbling idiot?!“, he shouted at the man who’d nearly flipped himself over a table. And then, out of the corner of his eye he spotted someone, standing close and holding their hand out to him. “Oh no, I’m afraid I’m a terrible dancer”, he declared, staring at other in a drunken haze.
~~~
Alistair almost couldn’t believe it when he had heard. He had thought that he had escaped his brother and their parents when he got to be a gentleman in waiting, but apparently not. Alistair had walked into the tavern hoping to simply relax...But then he saw his brother there. And he had a feeling that wouldn’t be happening. But maybe now was the best time to approach him? Declan wouldn’t dare do anything where others would see, after all. Alistair moved towards Declan and offered him his hand, before grinning. “And you think I’m a good one myself, brother?” Alistair asked, hating that he had to play this game with him. “What’s one dance? What would our parents say?” Surely epople couldn’t hear them whispering their truths if they were dancing, after all. Although it might have been a cheap blow to mention their parents the way he had.
nightingale-kalyan:
“Now, now… where’s the rush, young thing?” Kalyan said with a reasurring smile after witnessing the honestly pitiful spectacle of the gentleman in waiting covering himself in the desserts that were meant to be for him and his musicians friends after an evening of singing, drinking and dancing. He stood up and approached the young boy, still smiling. He was shirtless, a light layer of sweat from his last dance still fresh on his body. “You don’t need to be sorry. If I told you of all the times I fell flat on my face while dancing…” he said, before reaching for Alistair’s face and scooping some cream with a finger, that he promptly licked with the most obscene possible movements. “I always appreciate a sweet man, but you might have taken it a little too literal. Let me help you up” Kalyan finally said, offering his hands to the other.
~~~
Alistair let out a rather unnoble squawk at the other man’s words, his face quickly heating up as Alistair shook his head. “Just...Wanted to help you and show that I could do something and not look like a complete idiot. And yet, here I am again,” Alistair said with a small pout. Still, Alistair couldn’t help but to relax as the other truly seemed not upset, and even talked about falling before. “Really? You and your brothers always seem so graceful. I couldn’t imagine that.” Alistair said with a small giggle. An embarrassed noise escaped him as he took in the hot sight of the other scooping the cream and licking it off, quickly feeling a bulge forming in his trousers. “It wasn’t exactly my intension to become a mobile buffet.” Alistair said with a pout before standing up with the other man’s hand. “Thank you for the assistance.” Alistair said with a small smile as he looked down at his clothes. “I suppose I should find some new clothes to wear. Don’t want to ruin your little get together, sir.”
