I always find it funny when people say that it’s unfair how Bruce let Dick get away with killing the Joker but Jason can’t get away with murder. The difference is Dick snapped, killed the Joker and immediately felt guilty, meanwhile Jason Todd went on a murder spree and collected a duffle bag filled with severed heads, the two aren’t really comparable.

Some of Bruce's observations about Dick in The Batman Files:

[Dick's not smiling when I find him perched on the rooftop of the west wing of the manor. He's so used to heights. Looks almost as natural as a bird up there on the steeple. He's looking at Gotham's twinkling skyline like he has somewhere to be. But we both know he doesn't. Not anymore.]

[Then the gunshots start. Joker and Two-Face spot Dick's yellow cape in the shadows. It's a problem we've discussed several times. But the flashy red, yellow, and green were his father's colors. So now they belong to this new Robin. Dick's flipping and somersaulting, springing around the shadows. It's impressive. He's much better at acrobatics than I'll ever be. But he was born on the trapeze. He never even learned how to fear it.]

[My hand goes to the belt, but then I stop myself. The boy's already on it. He takes his staff and breaks it across the Joker's face. Not quite a controlled strike, but it does the job. Joker's unconscious on the cave floor, and the boy is beaming with pride. This is helping him. Being Robin is helping.]

[I turn to look down at the boy. This... it's not responsible, and it certainly can't be good parenting. But it's the only way I know. And it seems to be helping.

"Batman and Robin," I say.

Dick jumps into the air and lets out a shout that I worry will wake our soundly sleeping prisoners before we can deliver them to the GCPD. But despite myself, I still crack a smile. Because this isn't about them. This is about the boy.]

Headcanon Time!

Here's a few Dick & Jason headcannons because I'm a sap.

Jason will steal Dick's food randomly. Mostly just to annoy Dick. Even though Dick Gets mad he takes it as a win that Jason is actually comfortable enough to tease him.

Jason hates being in pictures and doesn't let anyone take photos of him. One day, Dick ends up getting to take a selfie with Jason because he won a bet, and after he snapped the picture, he sent it to Jason's phone. Of course Jason gripped and complained about it, but later when Dick gets a peak at Jason's cell he finds out that Jason made the selfie his background so he can always see it.

Dick tries to respect his siblings' boundaries and need for space, but sometimes his siblings decide he's respecting their boundaries too much, so they randomly surprise their older brother with hugs and cuddles.

When Dick gets hurt on patrol, even if it's only a sprain or a bad scrape, Dick will wake up to Jason making him pancakes, or a plate of pancakes next to his bedside. It's a way Jason shows he cares without actually saying it and Dick is more than happy to accept Jason's care in the form of pancakes.

It makes me laugh a lot that whenever references are made to certain qualities of Dick that his other brothers also have, there is no shortage of people who say that "they are giving him qualities of *insert random sibling* to praise Dick".

Dude, I hate to be the one to tell you this, but actually, a lot of those abilities were first Dick's and then they were given to other batkids, shit, even his friends and partners were passed on to his siblings-

In one fic does it say that Dick writes or something related to his stories about Batman and Robin? "That was Jason, not Dick."

Someone makes a HC of Dick drawing? "That's not Dick, the artist is Damian."

Eh... Dick was literally a writer and (if I'm not wrong) even a comic book illustrator in a canonical way, using his adventures with Batman as a reference-

Same when they say that only Jason was the star student... No, Dick was ALWAYS a star student, outstanding and quite dedicated too. The only thing they were not alike in was that Dick was not a total lover of literature, but that does not mean that he did not read, he did, he even read things that were advanced for his age, and he also makes references to readings, showing that, in fact, he also read... He's just more about movement than staying still and reading.

"In YJ they gave Tim's skills to Dick".

The suit maybe, but the abilities? First they were Dick's, then they were given to Tim.

Dick was always an excellent detective, only more intuitive than methodical, but he was always the best behind Batman, at times even on par.

And he's always been a very competent hacker, too. Yes, not on Barbara's level, but he was always pretty good with technology.

"Him not getting crushed by Cass is so ooc".

No? Dick was always an excellent fighter. Again, he uses a very different style than other members of his family, but he was always excellent in fights.

I will never tire of discussing these things. I understand that many things nowadays are not shown much anymore, since the writers focus more on his leadership ability than detective skills, and it is also obvious that not everyone will want to read all the comics, there are too many- I haven't even read them all and I don't plan to, it's a hobby, not my life- lol

But yes, I'm still going to always say this, that his "brothers' abilities" are actually Dick's, and that does NOT mean that his siblings don't have them too, they just aren't the only ones.
